Easily improve performance in Monster Hunter: World
By 🌸 幻 | Valinypse
Monster Hunter: World is a very CPU demanding game, running poorly even in good computers. That's essentialy because of its poorly-made port.

Here's a guide on how to easily mod it to get more frames per second with a few mods (Stracker's Loader and Performance Booster) and ReShade for better Anti-Aliasing.

#1 - 'Stracker's Loader' & 'Performance Booster and Plugin Extender'
These are the two main mods designed to improve performance in Monster Hunter World.

  • Stracker's Loader.

  • Performance Booster and Plugin Extender.

Search for both of them on NexusMods and download them.
#2 - Installing these mods
Open Stracker's Loader .rar and paste its content into the main Monster Hunter World's directory.

Now, open loader-config.json with a text editor.

And if it says "ERROR", replace it with "DEBUG".

If you got the last version of the game and the last version of Stracker's Loader, it should work just fine.

Remember to extract the Performance Booster's .rar into the main directory of the game too. You'll know it works if you see "loading plugin nativepc\\plugins\\!CRCBypass.dll - CRC Bypass Loading - TempPatch of CRC Bypass Loaded! - DONE !" in your command prompt.

Both mods worked for me, apparently for a lot of people too. Stracker's Loader was recently updated, so it seems to have not been forgotten.

You can try installing these mods via MHW Mod Manager (which is outdated and broken) or Fluffy Mod Manager (which is still being updated to work with newer versions of Capcom games).

This guide was originally aimed to work with the MHW Mod Manager, but it stopped working for everybody, including me, so I had to heavily modify it.
#3 - Working with ReShade (For a better Anti-Aliasing)
MHW's native Anti-Aliasing makes the game look blurry, but for some users with AMD it also looks extremely blocky and pixelated without it. You can try installing ReShade and turning on SMAA Anti-Aliasing, Lumen Sharpen and Clarity.

However I need to let you know that ReShade has a known issue with black screens and crashes that haunted me for almost half an hour. I'm not completely sure on how to fix it, so you're on your own.

  • Here's its official link: reshade・me (Change the middle dot with a regular dot, I do this because Steam hates external links) and download the latest version of it.

Installing ReShade is pretty easy, just open the .exe, select MHW and then click on Microsoft DirectX 10/11/12.

Then check every effect on the Effect Packages list, this way every preset you're interested in will work.

Now search for ReShade Injector Helper on NexusMods.

  • nexusmods・com/monsterhunterworld/mods/4869

Installing it is as easy as just extracting its content inside of MHW's main folder and then running "MHW - ReShade Injector Helper.exe". This way we make sure ReShade works properly.

After everything got correctly installed, search for a Preset online. I recommend Sildur's Enhanced MHW v4.0. Download it and extract its .rar into the main MHW's folder.

Now everytime you want to run the game with ReShade you'll have to use MHW - ReShade Injector Helper.exe instead of Steam.

You can search for other Preset, but this is the one with a better AA in my opinion.

As I said before, sometimes ReShade can cause trouble with AMD cards. There are various ways to fix it, but I'm not sure on how it works so I'll link here a few sites that may help.

#4 - Optimize in-game settings.
Previous steps should've helped, but I wanted to add some tweaks here to improve performance based on in-game settings.

  • Turn Volume rendering quality to low or off.

  • Turn Anti-aliasing TAA to FXAA , as TAA blurs the game heavily when in motion, adding the illusion of heavy motion blurring, and is more performance intensive than FXAA. FXAA very slightly blurs the game in general but doesn't do so anymore when in motion.

  • Shadow quality and Volumetric rendering in this game are heavily bad optimized.

  • Try limiting your framerate. MHW has issues with CPU threading so capping the framerate at 60 could be helpful in some ways.

  • Reduce Z-pass to low, it is the setting for the quality of texture diffusion when it turn semi-transparent.

  • If you think that limiting your framerate does nothing, try setting your FPS Cap to unlimited and Vsync to Off. Go to your Nvidia Control Panel and turn the Vsync on for Monster Hunter World. Then run the game in Full Screen to reduce the stuttering.

  • For some people (including me), turning on DX12 improved performance.

  • And the High Resolution Texture Pack works better with ReShade.

When this game released for PC, people were having problems with newer Nvidia drivers. This might not be useful right now, but I think it's interesting to note that people were backtracking to 398.36 drivers.

We also had a mod called Special K published by a Steam user called Kaldaien, but it does not work anymore. If you're interested, here's a link to its Discussion Forums page.

Help. Everytime I executed MHW - ReShade Injector Helper.exe, when MHW window just opened for a few seconds, it closed immediately :steamsad:

However, I can play MHW from Steam just fine.
