Far Cry 2 - Some technical moments & Realism+ Redux mod

This guide is about how to enable HBAO+, SGSSAA and fix laggy mouse + about Realism+ Redux mod.
WARNING: The graphics settings in this guide are for NVIDIA users only.

Forcing HBAO+ via Nvidia Profile Inspector

WARNING! This setting is only for DX9!

HBAO+ (Horizon-Based Ambient Occlusion Plus) is a local shading technology created by NVIDIA to simulate diffuse lighting of objects, depends on the light source and geometry of the object.

How to enable:

1. Download Nvidia Profile Inspector[github.com].
   
2. Select Far Cry 2 profile.
   

3. Under 1 - Compatibility, change:
   

   Ambient Occlusion - Сompatibility parameter to 0x00000031.
   

4. Under 5 - Common, change:
   

   Ambient Occlusion - Usage | Enabled.
   Ambient Occlusion - Setting | High Quality (AO_MODE_HIGH)
   

5. Click Apply changes in the upper right corner.

SGSSAA (Sparse Grid Super-Sampling Anti-Aliasing) algorithm

SGSSAA (Sparse Grid Super-Sampling Anti-Aliasing) - better version of SSAA and like FXAA is applied to the entire scene.

How to enable:

1. Download Nvidia Profile Inspector[github.com].
   
2. Select Far Cry 2 profile.
   

3. Under 1 - Compatibility, change:
   

   Antialiasing - Compatibility | 0x000010C1
   

4. Under 3 - Antialiasing, change:
   

   Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling | 8x Sparse Grid Supersampling
   Antialiasing (MSAA) - Mode | Override any application setting
   Antialiasing (MSAA) - Setting | 8xQ [8x Multisampling] 
   

5. Click Apply changes in the upper right corner.
   
6. Turn off antialiasing in the in-game settings

Laggy mouse fix

Having recently started replaying this great game, I encountered strange mouse behavior, the following helped:

1. Open GamerProfile.xml

    C:\Users\<USER>\Documents\My Games\Far Cry 2\GamerProfile.xml 

2. Change the following three parameters to 0:
   

    UseMouseSmooth="0" Smoothness="0" Smoothness_Ironsight="0" 

Far Cry 2 Multi Fixer

I recommend downloading Far Cry 2 Multi Fixer[github.com] and run the game through it with the following parameters:

If you want to run directly from Steam with overlay and playtime:

1. Make sure that Far Cry 2 Multi Fixer Launcher and FarCry2MF.dll are in bin folder

   \path to the game\Far Cry 2\bin

2. Rename farcry2game.exe, for example to original_farcry2game.exe.
   
3. Rename FarCry2.exe to FarCry2Game.exe.
   
4. Rename FarCry2MFLauncher.exe to FarCry2.exe.
   
5. In the startup parameters write "-play", this parameter skips the launcher window.

About Realism+ Redux mod

It should be noted that the modification works only with DX9. Realism+ Redux mod brings graphical and gameplay improvements, such as outposts fix and deadlier combat. I highly recommend this mod, the game becomes much more interesting.
All of the above graphical tweaks apply to this mod, but the customization is slightly different:

1. In the NVIDIA control panel in the management of 3D settings, you need to click "Add", select the renamed original_farcry2game.exe and click "Apply".
   
2. In Nvidia Profile Inspector, click on the arrow next to the house icon and select the path to original_farcry2game.exe.
   

3. Change the HBAO+ and SGSSAA parameters as described above.
