[2024] How to play the best maps ever created in CS

In this guide i will tell you how you can play the best maps ever created that essentially turn CS into an RPG game. Unfortunately, they are no longer compatible with CS2, but there is a way around you can use to still play them in 2024.

What is a co-op?

Most coops are player vs bots maps where you clear several rooms/levels from bots and typically you need to kill all of them to progress further. However maps made by ctx go on a whole new level with cutscenes, puzzles, lockpicking, custom enemy models, parkours, story etc. turning the game into an RPG.

How to play them in 2024

First, subscribe to the maps in steam workshop (only accessible with these links)

Second, open your library, find Counter-Strike 2, right click and the click Properties...


Third, in a window that will po up head to betas, and select csgo_legacy


Then, about 13 GB will start downloading and upon starting CS you will be met with a new launch option, "Play Legacy Version of CS:GO". Select it and lauch the game.


When you start the game you will see a few warning that you are using an older version of csgo. You can completely ignore them and press "ok" or "continue".

Next, click the play button on the bar on the left


Head to workshop maps


and finally select the map you want and press "go"

How to play with friends?

On this version its theoretically not possible to invite your friends, but there is a glitch that allows you to do that. To force this glitch you need to quickly open and close steam overlay (shift+tab). Then you will be able to invite friends for a small period of time. If you didnt do it in time simply force the glitch again (the invites wont appear in game so your friends have to accept them in dm).

Additional information

[IMPORTANT] The first map is haunted, but i recommend starting with rage in order to have a better first impression of these masterpieces and you dont need to know the story in the haunted to know whats going on in rage. Then play western>storm>astro. I also highly recommend playing in a team of at least 3 people. Beating these maps alone may be very hard, and astro isnt even playable if you are alone (all your friends need to do the steps up until choosing the map).

[BUG FIX] If your game crashes when a map starts loading or the game doesnt respond for a very long time after you start loading a map, i recommend uninstalling the whole game and then reinstalling it with the legacy csgo beta right away.

If you have problems with ammo, i recommend opening console and typing sv_cheats 1 and then sv_infiniteammo 1 for unlimited ammo, or sv_infiniteammo 2 for infinite spare ammo to reload. if you want to play with no recoil copy this into the console sv_cheats 1; weapon_accuracy_nospread 1; weapon_debug_spread_gap 1; weapon_recoil_cooldown 0; weapon_recoil_decay1_exp 99999; weapon_recoil_decay2_exp 99999; weapon_recoil_decay2_lin 99999; weapon_recoil_scale 0; weapon_recoil_suppression_shots 500;

If you want to play CS2, just choose the first launch option when starting the game.
