What is AFCS?
The Advanced Fire Control System aims to fix a big problem in warship design: Weapon integration and user experience. Usually, each gun might have its own control station and might operate completely independant of other systems. For smaller gunboats and simpler vessels this might be enough, but once you start adding more complicated weapons and radars things can get messy.
AFCS solves this by providing a standard for switchboards and consoles that allows the user to connect each gun to a specific targeting system, allowing various weapons to share a single target and more importantly, single player operation.
The system is composed of 3 main components:
  • (TGTSYS) Targeting System
Targeting systems provide target data to direct the assigned weapons and control their firing. These include search/track radars, laser pointer cameras, coordinate input keyboards and datalink receivers.
  • (WPNSYS) Weapon System
Weapon systems use the data provided to aim at a target and fire guns or deploy ordnance. Common weapon systems include autocannons, battle cannons, anti-air missile launchers, anti-ship missile launchers and more specialized weapons like CIWS, torpedo launcher and depth charges.
  • AFCS Installation
The core of the AFCS system includes the switchboards and consoles. These are used to connect targeting systems with weapons, share data through radio and more.
Usage Instructions
To start using the Advanced Fire Control System, locate the weapon control switchboard.
This array of screens and instrument panels controls the heart of the system, it allows each weapon system to be connected to one of six (or possibly more, depending on installation) targeting systems.
It will also display the name, position and purpose of each weapon, and also control some features like firemode and safety/arming.

Once you have located the weapon control switchboard you can start managing your weapons.
1. Find the weapon you want to manage
2. Select a targeting system using the arrow buttons.
3. Arm the weapon and select a firemode (if available)
4. Find the control console for the selected targeting system (usually a numbered sign will show you where)
5. Select a target and fire, instructions depend on the specific targeting system.
