Description
This is my review for Pokémon Emerald, played through emulation via RetroArch. Before diving into the content, it's important to note that this guide is not intended for any illegal activities or pirate file sharing. It serves as a small guide for my review of a specific old game and includes information on how to dump files for RetroArch and how to use them.

The game will also receive a performance review based on its run on the RetroArch emulator, and I'll include that in a separate game review. Additionally, it's important to note that this guide is purely based on personal opinions for reviewing a game and remains focused on RetroArch emulation. It is not an off-topic guide.
Review
I buy too much max repels! 8.7
Since I know how to play the game and understand the game mechanics, I don't mind if there are many water maps in it.

Pokémon Emerald is the third installment in the Pokémon series, released in Japan in 2004 and later internationally in 2005 for the Game Boy Advance. It essentially retains the same kind of gameplay you would expect if you've played the previous installments or Generation 1. Please note that I don't like how Pokémon fans label them as Generation 1, Generation 2, and so on. Instead, I prefer referring to them based on their installments, like sequels and prequels, but in chronological order. So, in that context, Emerald is technically Pokémon 3. I don't care about your opinion on that.

If I were to make a review based on Gen 2, I would say Emerald is a complete downgrade. The reason is that Pokémon Gold had a much larger or twice the size map than in Emerald. I know Emerald has a post-map, but it doesn't have the same feel as the first time I discovered you could go to the Kanto region. In Emerald, it feels like you're just staying on one island, unlike many Pokémon fans who play the game for the adventure of exploring the world, even if it's just from the comfort of their room.

I played the game with Torchic, following the original anime, and I chose May as my character. While Torchic may not be as powerful as Mudkip, it carried me through the Elite Four. Treecko is probably the best choice since it's a water Pokémon game, so that's all for the gameplay review. 'Attack missed' is a common frustration for me in Pokémon games, and I still dislike the randomness, especially when it comes to specific Pokémon—usually the rare ones that are useless and not important, except for Bagon, which I used for my last Elite Four battle. Overall, Emerald is a quite decent Pokémon game, though I love the designs of Rayquaza, Kyogre, and Groudon in this version.

LeafGreen's sprites look a bit off, especially Sandslash, though I appreciate the strong colors. The Regi sprites are all the same, just different colors. Luckily, they have animated sprites. I wonder why LeafGreen and FireRed didn't get that treatment. Well, it's Nintendo. they probably didn't want to spend the budget on it. Technically, all routes have similar sprites, while cities have their own buildings and unique sprites. Overall, Nintendo's sprites look good, even on modern day.

Multiplier? Do you mean needing a cable to play together or for receiving games and trading? Yeah, people who grew up with the original games bought two games, two console and a link cable, and they traded with themselves. So, I know the secret of Pokémon fans, they don't have friend.

 D-input work well.

Up to 22h - 300h if you're into shiny for some reason, this is emulation anyway so why bother? also digital pokemon ain't vauled that much, it just a bunch of 0 and 1.

Finally, a game where your rival doesn't become a jerk and become the champion before you. Honestly, this is better than the two previous games, and the additional conflict was okay. It's also cool to have the three legendary RGB pokemon, fighting each other for some weird reason. I mean, Groudon is a completely stupid Pokémon, standing above the ocean? Well, that's probably why fire Pokémon fans are as idiot as Groudon.

Verdict
Did I just provide a review based on modern 2024 standards? Yes, I did. And my verdict on Pokémon Emerald? It sucks!

 • Rate of Pokémon: Needs improvement.
 • Shiny Pokémon: Unappealing colors.
 • Gambling: Too much.
 • More gambling: Seriously, why so much?
 • Exclusive to Nintendo consoles, not on PC.
 • How did the nerdy Wally become powerful in the last cave??
 • May doesn't have a brother and she became adopted by Bendan's father if you choose may as character.

Good luck with the E-Reader, where the Japanese had more advantages than the rest of the world.

I grew up with this, so why not? Most of the time, my only complaint was that my favorite Pokémon wasn't as overpowered as the less appealing ones.

Save Dump
󠁧󠁳 󠁧󠁳 󠁧󠁳 󠁧󠁳 I made a review after defeating the Elite Four, and I've decided to dump my RetroArch save file using the mGBA core. Unfortunately, I won't upload my save game until I finish catching all available catchable Pokémon without using glitches or cheats. I plan to make a further guide on how to put the save file into your RetroArch folder. For now, it's not necessary as I'm still in the process of completing my Pokémon hunting.

Progression
󠁧󠁳 󠁧󠁳 󠁧󠁳 󠁧󠁳 This is my current progress for Pokémon Emerald with RetroArch using mGBA core. I'm attempting to catch all Pokémon, including their evolutions, and arrange them in order. Since I'm not a perfectionist, I won't order them based on their Pokédex entry number.

End Of The Page
I think that's all for now. I'll update it later if I add more reviews based on other games that I've tried emulated on RetroArch or perhaps add a new section to the guide list. For now, I guess Emerald will be my first guide for the RetroArch forum.
