Description
The escape from Dead Center campaign left a strong impression on each survivor. Thanks to Whitaker, just after seeing how cool Whitaker's gun collection in his gun shop was, survivors started to feel the addiction of collecting guns along the way. & There came this mod :D .

Well, putting the short story aside, this mod gives a new feature on L4D2 that other fps games usually have. it's "the ability to collect guns". This mod uses "virtual inventory" just like my "Bot Healing Prevention System" mod to store data of the collected guns of each survivor.

Here are the mechanisms of this mod:
  • Press E + SHOVE & shove any objects (walls, ground, zombies etc) to switch between collected primary guns.
  • The order or primary gun cycle is like this: SMG > PUMP SHOTGUN > RIFLE > AUTO SHOTGUN > SNIPER > M60 > GL. If you don't have one or some of the weapon types, the cycle will be skipped to the next primary guns.
  • Ammo clip & reserve ammo are stored in "virtual inventory" when survivor picks a primary gun, use E + SHOVE, & when reloading. So, when picking a primary gun from "virtual inventory", you get the last ammo before you stored it in inventory.
  • The primary guns can't go empty. There's a safety that immediately forces survivors to switch to secondary if primary reserve ammo is empty & ammo clip is only 2 left. This gives survivors a chance to switch primary gun.
  • To replenish ammo, you need to do it one by one, as each gun has different ammo data in "virtual inventory" (it's realistic this way)
  • The weapon data is reset when player starts a new campaign, disconnects or finishes a finale.
  • The dropped guns might disappear. I set it this way to prevent too many weapon entities spawned when survivors keep switching the guns.
  • You can only carry 1 weapon of the same type. Adding a new weapon of the same type will replace the older gun with the new one. Example: picking smg mp5 when you have silenced smg in inventory will replace silenced smg with mp5.
  • Laser sight can be transferred to other guns in virtual inventory. As long as you pick laser sight upgrade on first gun, other guns will also have laser upgrade when switched (this is to make it more realistic, like, survivors should be smart enough to keep one laser sight & equip/ unequip it on any guns they use). In case if you pick laser sight via command/ cvar, to save the laser sight you need to reload the gun with laser sight to save the laser sight data to the virtual inventory.

Aside from the mechanisms, there are some bonus features in "gun collector cfg.txt" file, like:
  • Gun Collectors Mode: This is to enable or disable "Gun Collectors" in case if you only want to use the bonus features.
  • Primary Guns on First Stage: Survivors get primary guns based on the value set (T1, T2, no laser or with laser).
  • PrimaryGunOnClosetResCue : When rescued from closet, survivors get primary gun based on the value set.
  • Full Ammo When Leaving Saferoom:Leaving saferoom gives full ammo. This is only applied on T1 & T2 guns.

There's also a bonus cfg file in "misc cfg" sub folder, "gun restrictions.txt", in case if you want to exclude certain guns from being added into virtual inventory (like, if you don't want to pick awp & scout by accident & put one of them in inventory to replace better sniper like hunting rifle or military sniper).

With this mod, enjoy your experience of carrying more than 1 primary gun along the journey during zombie apocalypse

  • Let me know if you find any bugs, as probably there might be some that I missed during checking scripts before uploading.

@42halomaster42 , just go to my workshop page to see my mods. I only made 2 collections so far. As for the mod to pick multiple medkits, it will be in the next year, like 2 more weeks. The scripts are rather long to copy-paste as a standalone mod.

@FriedDumplings , probably that might be difficult, because one of features here is to remove dropped gun. But if you just want to give a gun to other survivor, you can combine with my other mod Survivor's Item Swap & Drop , as that mod should be compatible with this mod (only the item drop feature there would be bugged).

Can you also make an option/key to drop a gun?
