Creating a backup
If you already know how to do this or just do not care, skip this section.

Before modding your game, it is important to create a backup of your vanilla files. You can easily do this by going to your library, left clicking on Lethal Company, selecting "Properties", and finally selecting "Installed Files". This will allow you to easily revert back to the vanilla version.
How to install mods and setup BepInEx
There are two methods to downloading mods for Lethal Company. In this section, I will discuss my preferred method. If these instructions seem too confusing, go to the next section for an easier way to download mods. If you do not feel comfortable messing with your game's files, then I strongly advise you to go to the "Alternate modding method" section of this guide. There is no shame in using the other method, just do whatever you feel comfortable doing.

For this section, we will be using Thunderstore and BepInEX's github page.

1. Download BepInEx from this website. I strongly suggest downloading the x64 version. It should be downloaded as a compressed file.
https://github.com/BepInEx/BepInEx/releases

2. I suggest splitting your screen, one side will be you download folder and the other will be your Lethal Company folders. This will make the process of copying and pasting files a lot easier. Open up Lethal Company's local files. This can be achieved by going to you library, right clicking on lethal company, selecting "Manage", and finally selecting "Browse Local Files"

3. Now, you'll want to open up the BepInEx file you downloaded earlier and copy the contents of it. This is what you should be copying.

4. Then paste the copied contents into the Lethal Company files. The end result should look like this.

5. Launch the game and reach the main menu. Once you have done that, you may close the game. Open up your BepInEx file in the Lethal Company folder to make sure you have done everything right. The folder should now look like this

6. Congrats, you can now install mods. You will be using the BepInEx file for all of your modding needs. You will now want to go to Thunderstore's website. There you can install whatever mods you want.
https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/

7. Actually installing mods can be confusing to new players, however it's easy to get the hang of. Just download the mod you want from thunderstore by clicking on "Manual Download". Then open the downloaded folder, and drag the necessary folders into the BepInEx folders.
For example, the skinwalker mod has a "Plugins" folder in it. Just drag the contents of that folder into the "Plugins" in BepInEx.
Alternate modding method
Downloading the mod manager

This method is a lot easier, however I have ran into a few problems while using this method. I have noticed small framerate drops and issues launching the game. These problems are very easy to overlook if you are a novice at modding. First, you want to go to Thunderstore's website.

https://thunderstore.io

Towards the top of the screen there is a section that says "Get the Thunderstore App". You will want to click on "Get App". This will install "Overwolf" and the "Thunderstore Mod Manager".

Downloading mods and sharing your mods with friends

After that is installed open the Mod Manager and scroll down until you find Lethal Company. From that point onward, everything will be self-explanatory. Just click "download" on any mods you want. The mod manager will automatically download any prerequisite mods and It will alert you of any outdated mods.

To share your mods with friends, just click on "Share" in the top left of you screen. This will display a code that you can copy and send to a friend. If you do not feel creative, here is the code for the mods I have been using with my lower spec friends.
018d1fd2-6bd9-41a8-90c4-4209c6fc5184

To download mods from a friend's code, select "import/ update" after finding and selecting Lethal Company.

Finally to launch the modded game, you will need to click on the "Modded" button at the top of your screen. If you launch the game via steam or click on "Vanilla", the game will launch in a vanilla state without any of your mods.
Mod Recommendations
1. More Company
Allows for upwards of 50 players to be in a session. Along with the multiplayer changes, there is now a cosmetics tab in the bottom right of the main menu.

https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/notnotnotswipez/MoreCompany/

2. Ship Loot
Shows the total value for all of the loot within the ship. This mod is almost necessary because there is a cap for how many objects can be scanned at one time. That means you will not be able to tell the true value of your haul lategame.

https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/tinyhoot/ShipLoot/

3. Additional Suits
Pretty self explanatory. This mod adds 8 additional suits to your ship at the start of the game. It does not add any of the higher end purchasable suits such as the pajama suit, so you will still need to earn the credits to buy those.

https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/AlexCodesGames/AdditionalSuits/

4. Quota Rollover
In the earlygame of Lethal Company, you tend to go over the quota very easily. With this mod installed, any time you go over the quota, the extra credits will rollover into the next quota. This does remove a lot of the tension with reaching quota.

https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/boxofbiscuits97/QuotaRollover/

5. Compatibility Checker
This mod will show you the mod compatibility when you are joining a session. It will also alert you to which mods you need to install when joining a session.

https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/Ryokune/CompatibilityChecker/

6. Enemy Alert
This mod sends a message alerting you of when a monster spawns outside the ship

https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/RATS_RND_division/enemyalert/

7. Better Clock
This replaces the standard clock with one that is readable inside the bunker.

https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/BlueAmulet/LCBetterClock/

8. Hit Haste & Better Stamina
These are two separate mods, however I decided to group them together due to them being similar in nature. Better Stamina gives you more stamina and a faster stamina regin. Hit Haste gives you a quick burst of movement following taking damage. It is similar to the hit haste in Dead by Daylight.

https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/Supremo/Hit_Haste/
https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/FlipMods/BetterStamina/

9. More Money Start
Rather than starting the game with 60 credits, you will now start with 1,000 credits. This breaks the flow and tension of the game like the Quota Rollover.

https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/299792458/MoreMoneyStart/

10. Helmet Camera
Adds a helmet cam that is viewable to the right of the main terminal

https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/RickArg/Helmet_Cameras/

11. Skinwalker
With this mod installed, monsters will start to mimic the players' voices. This works with all enemies except the turrets and landmines

https://thunderstore.io/c/lethal-company/p/RugbugRedfern/Skinwalkers/

12. Yippee Bugs
On the opposite end of the spectrum from the skinwalker mod, there is the Yippee Mod. This mod replaces the Hoarding Bugs sounds with the "Yippee" meme. Does this mod take away from the atmosphere, yes. Does this mod make the hoarding bugs seem like less of a threat than they actually are, yes. The truth is I don't care, they're just lil dudes. Let them vibe and be happy. This mod does work with the skinwalker mod installed, so they thankfully do not cancel each other out.

Troubleshooting
This goes without saying, when you mod your game, you open yourself to new problems. I'll just run through a couple things to keep in mind.

Make sure all of your mods are up to date
New versions of mods are released frequently and they will not automatically update, so you need to check that every couple of weeks. This problem is completely bypassed if you use the Thunderstore Mod Manager found in the Alternate Modding Method section of this guide. With the mod manager, you are alerted of any outdated mods.

The base game updating may cause problems
The new updates for Lethal Company do not keep mods in mind. Some updates will break mods and some mods only work on specific versions. For example, the More Company mod was broken following the release of the version 47 update in January 2024. Personally, I just wait until new versions of the broken mods release. If you are not as patent, you can simply revert to the previous build of the game. This can be achieved by right clicking on "Lethal Company" in your steam library, clicking on "Properties", then selecting "Betas".

Experiencing weird movement when you are in the ship?
For some reason, as the host you will occasionally experience weird movement in the ship. When you are walking you will slow down and get teleported ahead to catch up with where you are "supposed to be". It kinda reminds me of how online fighting games feel on poor internet. I really cannot grasp what is technically going on if I am being honest. This occurs with any mods installed and it only happens to the host. It doesn't even need to be an online session for this to happen, this has occurred for all of my friends in LAN sessions too. My friends and I call this "King Crimson Walking" named after the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure stand. The only solution that we have is just quitting the session and creating a new one. If that doesn't work then repeat until it does. I wish I had more information, it seems like a common problem that no one really knows how to fix.

"Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'key')"
If you are trying to share mod codes via the Mod Manager and receive this message, just wait. Recently I ran into this problem and there were no fixes for it. Apparently Thunderstore Mod Manager was down for around 48 hours. If you run into this issue, there is a good chance Thunderstore is just down and you will have to wait. If you are impatient, you can export the mods via files by going to "settings" and clicking on "Export profile as a file". This will give you a small file that can be used in the same way as the code. Just download the file and select "from file" instead of "from code" when importing.

Feel free to ask any questions you have in the comment section, I will try to help anyone I can.
Uninstalling Mods
If you want to go back to Vanilla, simply delete these files from your Lethal Company folder.

If this method does not work, I suggest following these steps.

1. Delete "Overwolf" & the mod manager

2. Go to your local Lethal Company files and delete all of your files.

3. Uninstall Lethal Company via steam

Once you install the game again, the game should be acting completely normal in its vanilla state

Systen.Net.WebException : the underlying connecting was closed:an unexpected error occurred on send.

Download Failed For (insert mod thingie) What does this Mean?
Chungle  [autor] 27 stycznia 2024 o 21:34
@logabow Yea thunderstore hosts mods for a lot of games, so sometimes the website will redirect you to different games than Lethal Company (ex. risk of rain 2). I am assuming the remote name issue is a server issue on thunderstore's part, I'd suggest just waiting and trying again later.
MrSlinky 26 stycznia 2024 o 13:29
However it says that the remote name of thunderstore cannot be resolved
MrSlinky 26 stycznia 2024 o 13:27
Ah nevermind.

@Hitmanglass From most of the people I have added and talked with, both of the methods mentioned work. That is not to say it is without flaws of course. A lot of laptops have problems with mods. The method almost everyone (including youtubers and gaming outlets) recommends is the Thunderstore mod manager. and of course, please create a backup of your files before you start messing with mods though. I don't want you messing up your game's files over mods
