By Eclat
This guide is here to explain how to create and to join a lobby link without adding people as friends on steam, also with a potential solution for linux if the normal solution doesn't work

Creating link to invite people
Once you're into a game you can invite other people to join the game by
  1. Going in your profile (you can use the steam overlay to access the page for it)
  2. Right click on the join game green button
  3. Copy link
Then you should have in your clipboard a link similar to that:
steam://joinlobby/1966720/109775244618626185/76561199149453591

and you just need to share it to people
Joining a game from a joinlobby link
If someone give you some sort of this kind of link: steam://joinlobby/1966720/109775244618626185/76561199149453591
1) paste the link as an URL (like you would do to go to google.com) into any browser you have and steam should do automatically the rest of the job and invite you automatically
If it doesn't work on Linux
1. the steam://open/ prepending solution.
in your browser if you prepend the url of steam://open/ to your join link like:
steam://open/ steam://joinlobby/1966720/109775244618626185/76561199149453591
it may work.

2. the terminal solution with xdg-open or steam command
open a terminal and then you can type.
xdg-open steam://joinlobby/1966720/109775244618626185/76561199149453591
it is very likely to work
steam steam://joinlobby/1966720/109775244618626185/76561199149453591
it may work if you used your packet manager to install steam, usually it doesn't work this straightforwardly with flatpak or snap because of the command shortcut, but if you find the command shortcut it may work

If I ever find a way to have the same browser based experience without these small complication as in microsoft windows, I'll update the guide
