Why wonder which one was the coolest socialist country if you could have both: East Germany - but in Cuba!

Ernst Thalmann Island is an island into the souther portion of Cuba. It was given to the German Democratic Republic as a present from the Cuba government during a visit from the East German leader Erich Honecker in 1970. The island was never populated in real life; this map allows you to change that.
Notice there are a few workers and instalations into the island. These were given by the Cubans as a symbol of friendship. Some parts have a design that isn't the most functional; that's intended, as the Cubans did their best but you know how things goes in real life.
By the way, the power plant the GDR paid for was never built, so the airport is without electricity. And you have to import power from Cuba. Yeah.
