The Disciplinary Action - Whipping enemies into shape!
UberKiller 님이 작성
The point of this guide is to convince you why the whip (disciplinary action) can and will be the best melee for the soldier.

Introduction
Does this image represent how you use the disciplinary action?

Only using it to advance to the battlefield, basically riding classes to the front lines? Do you ever think of how useless this weapon is other than that use? Most soldiers would simply rocket jump to the front, outright negating the benefit this provides. However in this guide, I'll convince you how exactly this weapon can be used for much more desctrution than just quicker respawns.

Now before we get into critical thinking, we must first understand what the disiplinary action actually does. On paper, it says that this melee weapon allows for hitting teammates to rush into battle faster. However the drawback is that it recieves a 25% damage reduction.

Now that we know this, let's pretend you are a new player to TF2. You've played soldier for quite some time, and make good cannon fodder for some koth matches. You haven't exactly claimed lives that easily, and it can be difficult without tricking a medic for assistance.

But when dying for the 47th time, you recieve one of those handy weapon drops. This one seems to be a whip of some sort which is used for the soldier. You don't have much other ones, some other weapon called the "Market Gardener" which looks cooler but doesn't seem to do anything new!

You skim over the stats for a few, and note that it allows you to hit teammates making the target and you move a little faster. Using the old noggin, you put two and two together that this can be helpful to get advantages against mirror matches. And you just might clear one of your nemesises with this weapon with a little edge in the fight.

You start whipping teammates and make a gigantic push for the hill, mopping the floor with them as they couldn't keep up with the clustered speed of might brought down upon you and this whip. It may not have won the match, but it was pretty awesome nonetheless.

This is the kind of reason why this weapon was made. This doesn't mean it's the only reason.
Speedy Secrets
Now with my dreaded story out of the way, let's explain some secrets to this powerful whip. The whip mentions the two main features. The speed boosts from teammates, and the damage reduction. But it fails to mention a few other features that are hidden within the weapon. Let's go over them now:

The weapon actually has a 70% increase in melee range, which is a larger increase than the eyelander. Arguibly, this weapon is better than it in terms of range. This was initially intended for hitting teammates easier, but it creates a massive advantage for one-on-one melee fights and ambushes.

Classes get 3 seconds of speed boost, but you get 3.8 seconds. This means that you get the best boost from the whip as apposed to your teammates. You will need these extra .8 seconds for getting that final stretch push or that speedy getaway. They can make the difference between life, or death in times of crisis.

The whip can hit classes behind you
This appears to be some kind of exploitable glitch, but fingers crossed it doesn't get patched to we can make the spies job harder than it already is.

Slower classes get more out of the whip.
This isn't really much of a secret at normal, but what you don't know is how much it affects slow classes.

Now the whip has an agenda of speed. Slow classes get turned to a little faster than normal speed. Normal speed classes move fast like a scout. And a scout moves at the rate of the baby face's blaster maxed out. (However with Baby Face's Blaster maxed out already, he basically is like Sonic.)

So we'll compare normal speed versus boosted speeds here, Measured in Hammer Units per second (HU/s)

As you can see here, the classes that benefit most from the whip are Heavies, Demos, and soldiers. Both gaining 40% increases while under the effects.
Next are the normal speed classes: Pyro, Engineer, Sniper, Medic and Spy. They recieve a boost of around 35% which is pretty damn fast and makes the highest benefit of the whip.

And finally, the scout only gets a 26.3% boost from the whip. A little helpful to some scouts who are new, but most shouldn't need it.

So looking at these percentages, it's no doubt that the slow classes need this whip more.
Usefulness in Gamemodes
Arena:
The whip can be used for faster ambushes and flanks.

Attack/Defense:
Use the whip instantly on faster classes to steal the point without their knowing.

Control points:
Use with a group of 5 or more to create a massive tank group of fast classes dominating the points before the enemy team can respond. Whip scouts early on to maximize

Medevial:
Can give you a massive edge in melee fights with it's extra range. Pair with buff banner or conch and prepare for massive trouble.

Playload/Payload Race:
Allows for slower, more important classes to get on the cart faster. Can be used to stop the enemy team's cart faster in a pinch.
Tactics
Most fun: Whip Moshes
Grab a group of friends who all have the whip and attack single classes who cause distress.

Loadout consists of just the whip. Rocket Jumper for better advancement.

Sensible stock

Extras
- Use the whip to taunt enemies by slapping their butts as a form of ambushing
- Take it even further by flapping their butts if they fall face-down
- Communicate with other soldiers by whip slapping butts, and engage in conversation with them.
- The whip crits A LOT. Use this to your advantage and pick off heavier classes.
- When pairing with the conch, the speed boost doesn't stack. But it can keep the boost effect flowing at all times so your mosh crew can focus on the fight and not eachother's butts.
- The whip has an odd hit detection on teammates. Sometimes the whip sound will be heard but no speed boost will be gained. Be sure to get close to teammates for the speed bonus.

Well that's it for this guide folks. Thanks for reading it, and have fun slapping spies asses.

This weapon would be amazing if they fixed the hit detection on it, 80% of the time it just makes a sound and doesn't even give you the speed boost...

Aight, nice to have another TF2 fact in my head.
Please do add the fact that teammates (and the whip) are not lag compensated, though; you should aim in front of people when trying to whip them, as if you're playing an FPS from the 1990s.
