USS Samuel B. Roberts (DE-413) was a John C. Butler-class destroyer escort, the final and best class of destroyer escorts produced by the United States during the war. Building upon the preceding Rudderow-class, the Butlers retained the same low superstructure and 5"/38cal main battery while incorporating geared turbine propulsion, giving them a top speed of 24 knots. In October of 1944, Roberts was assigned to Task Force 77.4.3, "Taffy 3", alongside class leader John C. Butler. At the Battle off Samar, they fought a ferocious defensive action against the Japanese battleships and heavy cruisers of the Center Force by using their small size, torpedoes, and 5" guns to defend the vulnerable escort carriers. Roberts pushed her boilers well past their designed safety limits to achieve a speed of nearly 29 knots, 5 faster than what she was designed for. She fought gallantly for over 2 hours until she sustained rapid, overwhelming damage that resulted in her sinking.

This model reflects Roberts as she appeared off of Boston in June 1944 shortly after entering service.

She has the following armament:
-2x 5"/38 guns in Mk 30 single mounts
-3x 21" torpedo tubes in a Mk 20 triple mount
-4x 40mm Bofors in Mk 1 twin mounts
-10x 20mm Oerlikons in Mk 4 single mounts
-1x Mk 10 Hedgehog projector
-8x Mk 6 Depth charge projectors
-2x Mk 9 Depth charge stern racks

Credit and thanks to Zamarick for allowing me to use his depth charge projectors from his USS Cushing.
