Overview
This guide uses 17 Tips On How To Be Chivalrous so please read those rules first to get an understanding.

The next section will be those tips summarized and warped to fit the scene of a joust.
Preparing to joust...
To begin, I advise using a 'duel' server so there will be no outside interference. This part is up to you (and your friends).

A standard layout for any joust is: One horse. One lance or spear (As long as it couches). One shield. One one-handed sword.
Use the provided picture for an idea.

Now you and your opponent are equipped for jousting!

Make sure you and your opponent have ample space.
(100 metres minimum. It's impossible to tell so use the picture below as an estimate)
Distance from myself to the ruin above my head...

You and your opponent are at distance and facing each other. Be sure to be on (near) level ground or who ever charges uphill will have the disadvantage. Charge and couch. (Couch is automatic if you have the setting however I advise manual couching! X)
During the joust.
If both lances do not make contact, both parties align themselves for another charge.

If a horse is knocked down, the party mounted must dismount. Both parties must draw swords without their shields.

The party that lost their horse strikes first -- two swings at a time! The victor claims the free horse (Tip 9 of Chivalry is exempt as you have won the steed) and continues into the tournament.

Keep your opponent to your left side and a tight gap for horses to run by each other. If horses collide, go back and charge again.

If a party is taken down from the first couch, the victor proceeds in the tournament.
Strikes!
The aim of the sport is to have the least amount of strikes. Here is my list of strikes.

Combatants miss each other with the lance: 1 strike for both parties.
Knocking down your opponent's horse: 1 strike for you.
Missing a swing with your sword: 1 strike for you.

You are eliminated after 3 strikes. If both parties miss each other 3 times in a row, both combatants dismount and melee until one falls with the exemption of striking out from missing.
