Introduction

Hello guys, today in this guide I'm gonna introduce you to the very first Team Fortress game. Some of you may think that it was Team Fortress Classic, but this is not true.
First game of our beloved series was Quake Team Fortress
(Quake World Team Fortress).

What is Quake Team Fortress?

Quake Team Fortress is a mod for legendary FPS game Quake that was released in 1996. Game had groundbreaking 3D graphics and physics. QTF was made by Robin Walker, John Cook, and Ian Caughley in 1996. At the first run game had only 5 classes, then in following updates the rest of the team was added.

How to get running Quake Team Fortress?

There are different ways to install and run QTF. The easiest is to download Quake, then download QTF from the link in the description of the video in Useful Links section and copy file Quake/id1/PAK1.PAK from original Quake and paste it to the Quake(vanilla a.k.a. QWTF)/id1 folder. Shout Out to that video author. Also you can read some articles and use some programs that I left in Useful Links section in order to install QWTF in other way.

How QTF's gameplay feels like?

Quake Team Fortress will be not very welcoming to the new players. For some of u it'll be tough to look at old textures. But for people that enjoy ol' games as I do it'll be a lot of fun.
Game feels faster than TF2. Every class has its own 2 types of grenades.

Scout has Axe, Shotgun and Nailgun.
Soldier - Axe, Shotgun, Super Shotgun, Rocket Launcher.
Pyro - Axe, Shotgun, Flamethrower, Incendiary Cannon
Demoman has Axe, Shotgun, Grenade Launcher, Pipe Launcher.
Heavy - Axe, Shotgun, Super Shotgun, Assault Cannon.
Engineer - Spanner, Shotgun, Super Shotgun, Railgun. Also he can build sentries and dispensers.
Medic has Axe (that is used like Medkit for teammates and BioWeapon for enemies), Shotgun, Super shotgun, Super Nailgun.
Sniper - Axe, Nailgun, Sniper Rifle and Assault Rifle.
Spy - Knife, Nailgun, Super Shotgun, Tranq Gun. Also he can disguise or pretend to be dead.

Does anyone play QTF?

When I started playing QTF I thought that I'd have to install mod that adds bots. It was surprising for me, that QTF has got some sort of its dedicated community. I found server with actual people on website with QTF servers. Those players helped me a lot with QTF console commands and bindings.

Console commands and bindings

If you want to play original TF you have to know some console commands. In order to change class you type class's name into the console (` button). If you want to be able to use grenades type into the console these two commands - bind "button name" "+gren1", bind "button name" "+gren2".
