Here's my (aesthetically deficient) attempt at a chain gun battlecruiser sort of thing. It does REALLY well against most of your EuroSpace energy ships (though it can't go toe-to-toe with anything over $1.5 mil in that category), but it's no match for this one since basically all things are equal except the exceptional defense provided by your shield neck.
I make up for it with heavy armor but in order to be remotely competitive I need so much of it that half my ship has to be thrusters, because going up against ships that are shields PLUS armor, my standard amount of armor will lose every time. I doubt that stubborn element of my designs is a surmountable obstacle.
Though if you do manage to come up with a competitive build with those parameters I'd be very interested to learn how you do it!
