Description
The ES Madrid battleship is EuroSpace's first foray into Chaingun technology. It serves as a close proximity brawler, able to sustain the high damage of its very long twin Chainguns for extended periods, supported by 4 Disruptors against heavily shielded targets and 4 Flak Cannons to be used offensively or defensively. Protecting this weapon setup on either wing is a total of 20 point defense guns, as well as a shield neck. Its shape, as well as ample forward thrust and good turning ability allows the Madrid "hide" any temporarily unshielded sections behind its shield neck, obstructing them from enemy line of fire or orbit opponents to avoid superior firepower. Two Tractor Beams aid in its ability to keep the engaged opponent at ideal range and position.

Cost: $ 2.220.492,-
Crew: 460
Speed: ~84m/s

Yes, this ship has many flaws since it's quite old. The biggest is that the CG setup is crap, but yes also you have to keep the enemy perfectly centered.

I found a flaw. You can't use both chainguns unless you're pointed towards the enemy, so I would advise that you put them farther from the "neck" of your ship.

Lol, never happened to me, but game is weird like that sometimes.

Nevermind, restarted the game and it works now...

Hi there, having an issue with this design, for some reason it refuses to go full speed, pretty sure all engines are working since it does use it to rotate, but will not fire them forward unless I use the auto fire thruster command, ever happened to you?

As you'll notice I even used shields in this one, haha. But even that's not enough, as I wanted to avoid making them a mainstay.

Here's my (aesthetically deficient) attempt at a chain gun battlecruiser sort of thing. It does REALLY well against most of your EuroSpace energy ships (though it can't go toe-to-toe with anything over $1.5 mil in that category), but it's no match for this one since basically all things are equal except the exceptional defense provided by your shield neck.

I haven't uploaded a collection, I don't think, but the main thing is... I make mine according to the lore of a faction in a story I write, and this faction doesn't utilize energy technology. So no beams (apart from point defense, which in my head isn't an energy thing), no shields.

I make up for it with heavy armor but in order to be remotely competitive I need so much of it that half my ship has to be thrusters, because going up against ships that are shields PLUS armor, my standard amount of armor will lose every time. I doubt that stubborn element of my designs is a surmountable obstacle.

Though if you do manage to come up with a competitive build with those parameters I'd be very interested to learn how you do it!

What's your ship collection? I'd like to take a look. Through testing we improve our designs. Tbh, the Madrid isn't even that impressive and many EuroSpace ships need massive improvements. Just a few days after completing the Madrid I learned how to make a chaingun setup that is many times more efficient than what it has.

Update: Terribly, as anticipated. Our chaingun configuration is almost identical in terms of fire and reload time, but my stubborn refusal to use shields once again makes this gap insurmountable.
