North American XB-70 Valkyrie

The North American XB-70 Valkyrie was a Mach 3 supersonic strategic bomber that flew in the 1960s. These prototype bombers were to replace the B-52 while flying fast enough to avoid interceptors. It was to penetrate deep into Soviet airspace and drop its nuclear or conventional ordinance. At supersonic speed, the XB-70 could fold its wingtips downwards, capturing its own supersonic shockwave to produce additional lift. The introduction of new surface to air missiles soon made the Valkyrie vulnerable to interception, and ICBMs soon took over the bomber’s primary function. Only 2 prototypes were built before the project was cancelled.

This aircraft features the sweeping wings seen on the real XB-70. Once the jet reaches Mach 0.90, the wings will sweep automatically to 35 degrees, and will sweep to their full 75 degrees automatically above Mach 1.50. Best landing speed for the aircraft is around 300 kmh. Afterburners seen in the screenshot were added for the photos.
