Rust for Dumbies | Rust Advanced Guide

Before you read, this is an advanced beginners guide for rust. So if you just downloaded the game don't read this YET read my previous guide called "Rust for Dumbies | Rust Beginner Guide" then read this.

In this guide you can learn advanced rules and game senses I use to survive in Rust.

Before we begin.
Before we begin I would like to thank everyone of you for rating and awarding my last guide I greatly appreciate it.

So for homage I have decided to create another one, this will be the second out of a 4 to possibly 5 guide series.

Beginner -> Advanced -> Superior -> Ultimate -> ???

Rules of Rust (Continued)
Rule 6. Keep up morale

In Rust its easy to lose a teams morale especially after a big loss. Keep up the teams morale by grouping together and rebuilding, listen to music while doing so or a podcast to keep the background noise out. Once you're ready to go out and do more farming then that's when you're at your peak.

Rule 7. Don't lose hope.

This rule corresponds with Rule 6 because when you have a big loss its easy to wanna get off and just go do something else. If you want to be good then you need to learn from your losses. Keep going rebuild and don't lose hope.

Rule 8. Be Diplomatic

In Rust it is important to keep your eye on potential enemies and potential friends. Before residing to conflict see if you can sort something out with neighboring bases. Alliances can be very beneficial. (This rule also corresponds with Rule 3)



Rule 9. Buddy System

In Rust if you are playing with a team it is key to always move with a buddy. If you are moving alone or running something alone when you have someone that you can go with you are just making it easier to lose liabilities. If you are farming or running a monument it is KEY to run with a buddy for one of you to back up the other.

Rule 10. Practice

Be sure to practice your aiming on aim training servers so when you get into a fight your aim isn't all wonkey and you die.


Adaptation to Game Sense.
A big part of Rust is learning how to react to certain situations and ques, how to react to a players behavior, and make strategic plans. It will take awhile to learn certain senses but its best to start now. I'm gonna give you some good tools to use to better your game sense and understand Rust.

Map Awareness:

Knowledge of the map layout, including key locations such as monuments and high-traffic areas, is vital. Being aware of where you are and where valuable resources are located helps in making informed decisions about base placement, exploration, and resource gathering.
Monuments also have value or zones to them. Based off my 4 years of experience I have determined the least populated monuments to the most populated.


Green - Safe, meaning that this monument or landmark barely has activity but its still possible to see somebody.
(Caves, Electrical squares)

Blue - Minor Activity, meaning that people go there from time to time and you'll probably see 1-5 people there in a day.
(Ziplines, Stables)

Purple - Active, meaning that the monument is active and to take precaution. You can go there solo but you have to be ready for a possible fight.
(Super Market, Oxums, Mining Outpost. Harbor, Lighthouse, Fishing Village, Dome)

Orange - Frequently Active, meaning that the monument is active a lot and to take high precaution. You can go to this monument solo but it is suggested you bring a friend or a group. There will most definitely be a fight here.
(Bandit Camp, Military Tunnels, Small Oil Rig, Water Treatment)

Red - Always Active, meaning that the monument is always active with something going on in or around it. I do not suggest going to said monument solo, I would take a friend or a group to fight out the other groups contesting the monument.
(Launch Site, Trainyard, Powerplant, Outpost, Large Oil Rig)




Things to consider when building.
When building a base it is key to know where you are building and why. Building a base requires game sense in your location; meaning you need to know what you want for the wipe and how safe you want to be. I have 4 laws that I look into before I put a base down.

The Law of Safety - If you don't care about your safety for your base and you're good enough to fend for your own, then skip this. The law of safety corresponds with the activity chart above. You want to see where you feel safe and where the most active or least active areas are.

The Law of Resource - When you are basing you want to know where you can find resources fast like scraps, nodes, wood, etc. That's why its good to spot good areas close to roads, snow, and forested areas.

The Law of Monuments - When you play rust you plan on finding scrap/loot and usually you want your base near the action. So you need to look at what I call monument clusters or where certain monuments are on the map and plan out paths you can follow. Or if you like ocean monuments you need to consider things like if there is a fishing village near me and how much LGF it will take to get to said location.

The Law of Size - Depending on how big your group is you need to take into account on how big your base has to be and how big the land is that you need to create said base. You also need to account for all the laws how much Safety, Resources, and Monuments for scrap you need to base near.
