Synthetic Evolution - Keep Organics

Description
Keep your original looks (species portrait), original species (in existing colony ships), and existing alien organics after you synthetically ascend.

Completing the 'Synthetic Evolution' special project in the synthetic ascension path no longer turns all your pops into robot-looking machine pops.
Completing the special project mid-colonizing a planet with your original organic species is no longer necessary to keep your original species.
The engineering cost of the special project is reduced, scaling with your main species pops instead of all pops.

Modded:
-Synthetic evolution special project costs 1000 + (200 * main species pop count) engineering
-Synthetic evolution converts only your main species to mechanical pops
-Your new mechanical main species keeps their organic portraits (you can change it to classical robots when making a new template)
-Existing colony ships retain the species they had prior to the special project's completion
-Organics not of your main species are unaffected, including leaders and the leader pool
-Automatically gain the Eternal Machine trait since mechanical pops are no longer immortal and a bug does not reset leader age, resulting in all your leaders dying short after becoming mechanical

Vanilla:
-Synthetic evolution special project costs 1000 + (200 * total pop count) engineering
-Synthetic evolution converts all organic pops to mechanical pops
-Your new mechanical pops have machine portraits
-Existing colony ships are changed to the new mechanical species
-All organic leaders turned into machines

Overwrites, and is incompattible with any other mod that modifies the following events:
utopia.2550 (Synthetic Evolution)
utopia.2551 (The Synthetic Age)

not sure why, but I can't get this mod to work

Yes. As long as you do not manually change it to a robotic portrait, derivatives from your ascended main species will have the organic portrait.
It is not possible to switch from a robotic portrait back to the original organic if you manually choose a robotic one however.

Yooo, does this let you keep organic portraits when you're making new species templates, too?
