Dismiss as Drifters

Description
Overview

Dismissing characters from the player faction will now cause them to join the Drifters faction instead of the Tech Hunters faction.

I sometimes like to rescue slaves and release them after gearing them up and training them a bit, but it didn't make sense to me that they joined the Tech Hunters (especially weird if you for some reason are enemies with them).
This mod also gets rid of the issue of Tech Hunter reputation hits after you dismiss characters and then attack them.

Installation

Start a new game, do not use this on an existing save.
Importing might work, but I have not extensively tested it.

Compatibility

Due to the way it works (read Technical Details below) the mod is highly incompatible with any mod that just thinks about referencing anything in either Drifters or Tech Hunters factions.
I would not recommend using this mod in combination with any other faction mod without at least checking in FCS. Most definitely not worth the headache when running it in combination with large faction overhauls, in that case it would probably be easier to take the idea of this mod and start implementing it from scratch in FCS.

Technical Details

Dismissing characters from the player faction causes them to join a faction by ID. This ID was used by the Drifters faction in very old versions of the game, nowadays the same ID is used by the Tech Hunters faction instead, causing every released character to end up with them instead.
Since the ID itself is hardcoded, there is nothing to do about it really. The End.

Unless you decide that you can just rename Tech Hunters to Drifters vice versa and also swap every single other reference (Towns, NPCs, etc) between the two factions creating a whole mess of a compatibility nightmare. Then you end up with this mod.
This creates a whole load of potential compatibility nightmares; anything that is added by mods that is supposed to reference Tech Hunters will now point to Drifters instead.

......... So did you just switch tech hunter and drifter faction? all the waystations are now owned by drifters, the wandering *drifters* are tech hunters and so on. While the title is true that when you dismiss a character they become drifters it sorta breaks alot of other things. <--- you can ignore this since I'm not the only one to comment it but..............Do you know of a fix too make the other stuff work and still make dismissed characters drifters?? :steamsad:

Question: Is it not possible to simply change it so that the dismissed character joins Drifter's current ID instead of Tech Hunter's? I know nothing about this game's code, I'm just asking. Because this seems like a very complicated solution.

This mod does indeed do what it says on the tin - it allows you to dismiss characters as Drifters. Unfortunately, it also converts everything Tech Hunter into Drifter. It also converts all Drifters into Tech Hunters. It also eliminates crime inside of the "Drifter" cities. It also functionally changes both factions into not real factions similar to herbivore, crabs, by not having any faction changes whatsoever no matter what you do. Since the Tech Hunters are now Drifters, they could care less about their Mechanist allies and will not assist them in a fight. Same goes for Cannibal Hunters. Apart from these changes, everything appears to be the same. You can still hire bodyguards. You can still purchase from the traders; they appear to have the same stock/money available. You can still recruit "Drifters" who are now "Tech Hunters". You might not get attacked by Drifters in the Pitts though, since they are Tech Hunters and are neutral to you.

It basically converts all Tech Hunter entries to Drifters and vice versa, then renames the factions.

On the surface this changes nothing, aside from released Characters now joining the Drifters faction. In the background every single other entry is flipped between the factions, which is why it can be such a compatibility nightmare.
