Ocular Dominance
Ocular dominance determines which of your two eyes has preferential vision. It is somewhat similar to right- or left- handedness; however, the side of the dominant eye and the dominant hand do not always match.

In order to min/max your gameplay, it can be advisory to not block your dominant eye with your characters viewmodel as this can delay things like reaction time and ability to process information.

Finding your dominant eye
Finding your dominant eye is a relatively simple task, the below images can aid you in the process explained below.

Make a triangle with your hands and focus on an object about 3 meters away (9ft) placing the object in the centre of the triangle you have created

Close your left eye, if the object you are looking at has moved noticeably to the right, you are left eye dominant. If the object has stayed in the centre of the triangle you are right eye dominant. If you are right eye dominant, close your right eye and you will see the object move.

Ocular & Handedness
To avoid obstructing your dominant eye it is best to move the viewmodel to the opposite side of your eye.

This can seem counter-intuitive because if you are left-handed you are more likely to have a left dominant eye. This means that a right-handed viewmodel in game is the best for you and vice versa.

  • cl_righthand 1; // best for people with a left dominant eye
  • cl_righthand 0; // best for people with a right dominant eye
