Overview
Equipment plays a crucial role in World War Z, offering unique tools for each class to enhance their effectiveness in the game. Understanding how to utilize equipment effectively is essential for success in both Co-op Campaign and Multiplayer modes.

Refilling Equipment
  • Equipment charges are primarily replenished by collecting equipment bags.

  • In Co-op Campaign, picking up an equipment bag restores your equipment charges to their maximum capacity. To optimize equipment usage, it's recommended to deplete your existing equipment before collecting a bag.

  • In Multiplayer, equipment bags recharge your equipment by 25% per bag. This means you'll need to collect four bags to gain one equipment charge. In Multiplayer, players only need to walk over equipment bags to collect them.

  • In both Co-op Campaign and Multiplayer, classes have perks that can grant equipment charges or instant recharge boosts based on specific kill requirements. Some perks can also increase the maximum equipment capacity. In Co-op Campaign, certain classes have perks that regenerate equipment continuously but restrict the collection of equipment bags.

Co-op Campaign
In Co-op Campaign, equipment usage is critical in all game modes. Equipment can be the deciding factor between survival and failure during intense swarms. Each piece of equipment has its own unique utility and is best employed at the right moment. Starting with at least one equipment charge is crucial, and some class perks can enhance equipment functionality and provide extra benefits for the team.

Multiplayer
  • In Multiplayer, equipment operates similarly to Co-op Campaign but with differences in how you obtain and use it.

  • By default, Multiplayer players can only carry one equipment charge, and it recharges gradually over time. Leveraging your class's equipment effectively can provide a significant advantage when facing enemy players. It's essential to make strategic decisions about when to use your equipment charge, as they can greatly impact the outcome of battles.

  • In Multiplayer, the utility of certain equipment may be adjusted compared to their Co-op counterparts. Placed equipment disappears when the owner is killed, and not all equipment types are available in Multiplayer.

Frag Grenade

  • The Frag Grenade is an explosive equipment that detonates shortly after making contact with a surface, causing a devastating explosion with a wide area of effect. It is a highly effective tool for eliminating most zekes instantly, making it perfect against zombie pyramids and large swarms. When thrown, a red grenade icon appears for other players (excluding the thrower) to prevent friendly fire incidents.

Used by:
  • Gunslinger (Co-op Campaign)
  • Specialist (Multiplayer)
  • Warfighter (Multiplayer)

Molotov Cocktail

  • The Molotov Cocktail is an incendiary explosive equipment in World War Z. Upon being thrown, it shatters upon contact, splashing its fiery contents in a small area and creating a fire pool. This fire pool can set other zekes ablaze, dealing damage over time. If the Molotov Cocktail shatters midair, the fiery substance will fall and form a fire pool upon landing.

  • The Molotov Cocktail serves as a highly effective crowd control tool. When enemies walk through the fire pool, they will be set on fire, ultimately leading to their demise. This makes it an essential choice for controlling swarms and dealing with groups of zekes.

Used by:
  • Exterminator (Co-op Campaign)
  • Survivor (Multiplayer)

Masking Gas Grenade

  • Masking Gas Grenades are concealment equipment that explode upon contact with a surface. These grenades release a small blue smoke cloud upon detonation, rendering survivors within the cloud temporarily invisible to zekes.

  • Survivors can strategically use Masking Gas Grenades to become invisible to both normal and special zekes. While under the influence of the masking gas, zombies will not attack and will appear confused. However, it's important to note that during swarm events, hordes of zekes will still move toward your location, so caution is advised.

  • Additionally, Masking Gas Grenades can be a lifesaver for survivors pinned by a Lurker or Bull. By throwing a Masking Gas Grenade at a pinned survivor, they can be freed from the grasp of these special zombies.

  • It's worth mentioning that when the gas is active, the player's screen will have a deep blue hue until the effect wears off.

C4

  • C4 is a remotely-detonated explosive equipment that sticks to the first surface it contacts when thrown. It remains in place until manually detonated or damaged, such as by gunfire or other explosions.

  • This unique explosive device distinguishes itself by being remotely detonated, unlike other explosives in the game that explode automatically. This feature offers users precise control over when the explosion occurs, allowing for strategic timing during zombie swarms to maximize its effectiveness. To detonate the C4, simply trigger it manually; there's no need to throw it with a trajectory, as this action is reserved for detonation.

  • In reality, C4 is an exceptionally stable explosive that requires a blasting cap for detonation. It won't explode even when exposed to fire, physical damage, or rifle incendiary rounds.

  • When deployed, C4 is highlighted in blue and marked with its distinctive icon.

Used by:
  • Hellraiser (Co-op Campaign)
  • Demolisher (Multiplayer)

Claymore Mine

  • The Claymore Mine is a proximity-detonated explosive equipment that, when deployed, creates a mine on the ground. It triggers an explosion upon detecting an enemy's presence within its laser trigger range. However, it can also be activated by gunfire or exposure to other explosions. This mine is particularly effective for guarding blind spots and setting up traps to catch flanking enemies off guard.

  • The Claymore is characterized by its ability to automatically detonate when an enemy crosses its line of sight, as indicated by the three glowing lines in front of it. This feature makes it an ideal choice for strategic positioning and defensive tactics.

  • Trapper (Multiplayer)

Supply Bag

  • The Supply Bag is an equipment item that enhances weapons. When deployed, it provides an ammo container with explosive and some regular ammo for the primary weapon, triggering an automatic reload. Note that not all weapons can benefit from it.

  • Explosive ammo from the Supply Bag delivers significant damage, making it effective against various enemies. However, it nullifies a weapon's max penetration stat. This limitation doesn't affect weapons without penetration or those with relevant perks.

  • Remember, there's a limit of 10 active bags. Destroy the Bomber cautiously as his explosion can damage nearby bags.

  • Fixer (Co-op Campaign)
  • Support (Multiplayer)

Stun Gun

  • The Stun Gun is an equipment that incapacitates enemies. When triggered, it emits an electric shockwave in front of the user, stunning nearby foes. Stunned enemies suffer damage over time and become highly vulnerable for a brief duration.

  • This electrifying weapon instantly immobilizes a set number of targets in its range by discharging electricity. The shocked enemies not only endure ongoing damage but also become easy targets for your team. Beyond crowd control, the Stun Gun is exceptionally useful for rescuing teammates pinned by Lurkers and Bulls.

Used by:
  • Slasher (Co-op Campaign)
  • Assassin (Multiplayer)

Stim Pistol

  • The Stim Pistol provides temporary health to the user or teammates. It delivers a medical projectile on use, granting a yellow temporary health bar. This health buffer absorbs damage before regular health is affected, and it decreases over time. Tapping the equipment button uses it on the user, while holding and targeting a teammate fires it at them, requiring a line of sight. It can also revive incapacitated players with the "Fighting Chance" perk.

  • The application of the Stim Pistol is accompanied by a temporary yellow blur.

  • Several perks enhance the Stim Pistol's effectiveness, offering increased temporary health, extended duration of the effect, and even applying the effects of the Masking Gas Grenade.

  • Medic (Co-op Campaign)
  • Striker (Multiplayer)

Quadrocopter

  • The Quadrocopter is a versatile escort equipment. Once deployed, a drone follows the user, providing cover fire when enemies are nearby. By default, it comes with a Stun Gun to stun close zombies. With certain perks, it can be equipped with a Pistol for more effective combat.

Used by:
  • Dronemaster (Co-op Campaign)

Mobile Shield

  • The Mobile Shield is personal armor that deploys an electrified arm shield when used. It provides front-facing protection from most damage while dealing shock damage to attackers. This makes it an effective tool for taking down zeke pyramids and crowd control, as it can immobilize and damage multiple enemies.

Yes. Especially when you are in the middle of a crowd of zekes, you can throw a gas bomb and become invisible to the zekes for a short time.
