Description
Description
North Africa '41 is a complete overhaul of Mark Simonitch's game "The Legend Begins", first published 30 years ago by Rhino Game Company. Everything has been redone from scratch: new map, new order-of-battle research and improved rules using many of the ideas developed in Stalingrad '42, Holland '44 and Salerno '43.

The map and unit scales of the first game remain the same, as do some of the rules.

There are still Limited and Active ZOCs (Zones of Control), tank movement, coastal transport between ports, Malta convoy rules, port destruction/repair and Resource Points. Resource Points are used to build or purchase resources in limited quantities, such as air support, battleship convoy escort, air transport and full temporary participation of the Italian army.

The basic gameplay system borrows heavily from other games in the WWII 19xx series, but there are no ZOC Bonds in this game. Only the ZOCs of motorized units stop enemy movement. Units can overtake non-motorized units by paying +2 Movement Points (MP) to exit each ZOC.

New rules have been added to increase excitement and prevent perfect plans: event tables, delay markers, strafing, movement bonuses for Rommel and the Long Range Desert Group.

The game includes three scenarios: Enter Rommel, The Complete Campaign, and Crusader.

Thanks you LordSpain :bibou_happy:

1 year later (better late than never) I upscaled all counters according to Johanski's advice. Thanks a lot!

Thanks hjess60!
What I find annoying about the grid is that when a counter leaves for exemple the replacement pool, the remnant display, the nile delta or the tripoli box, you have to right-click on it to allow it to snap (and vice-versa).
And you have to manually select the counters you don't want to snap (malta, port status, etc...), otherwise they won't settle perfectly on the board.
It's probably the least frustrating solution, for sure, but it's still a little bit frustrating.

Bonus point for snap points: they clearly indicate hexes where entry is prohibited, such as marshes. And if some players prefer to play without them, they can delete them all in 2 clicks!

Very nicely done! I felt your pain when I viewed snap points... I was able to configure the TTS grid to match the hexes on the map no problem, is there a reason why you chose snap points?

Thank you Crafunzio and Johanski :bibou_happy:

I extracted the images directly from the various official pdf, as the Vassal module is (for the moment I believe) not yet released.
To be honest, I find the quality of the counters largely acceptable. They are slightly pixelated when zoomed in, I admit, but I've seen worse for TTS wargames.

Thanks for the tips though. I'll see what I can do to improve the quality!

Very well made module! Looks like a lot of effort went into it. Did you take the images for the counters from VASSAL? If you did, you can improve the quality of the images when ported into TTS by manually adjusting the pixel count on the PNGs. It sharpens up the images a lot

Thanks :-D
