Introduction
Welcome to my tryhard guide on leveling up quickly in Phasmophobia! If you want to become a master paranormal investigator and make your 1000h playtime friend envy you by unlocking those higher-tier equipment and contracts, you're in the right place. In this guide, I'll walk you through a series of strategies and tips that will help you gain more xp in a match than your friend is able to do in an hour.

Throughout this guide, I'll cover various aspects, including:
  • Optimizing Difficulty Selection: Not all contracts are created equal. Some are basic and some are just.... Broken. Yeah I'll use that word. A good game requires a good difficulty and I've been studying this since 500 A.D which I'm willing to present to you in this guide.

  • Equipment and Loadout Optimization: As good as you might think you are, sometimes you die and we have to prevent that from giving you a mental breakdown somehow. I'll show you what you must have and what you must not have.

  • Ghost Identification: Well, you can't just get in a game and have no idea what a ghost sounds like, right? In this guide I'll also cover this, on how to identify most of the ghosts and see how easy it really is.

  • Effective Investigation Techniques: I'll present you my setup technique which is really important because you might not have a lot of time setting things up

  • Solo vs. Group Play: If you're playing with friends or joining random groups, communication is the key. I'll share some of my multiplayer strategies that i have for a good multiplayer match.

By the end of this guide, you'll be called a pro gamer from your tryhard sweaty phasmophobia friend but remember, each investigation is an opportunity to learn and progress. So, even if you have a bad game doesn't mean it's a bad strategy. Let's begin!
Player settings

Why is the sprinting and flashlights off??? Well you won't be needing them Dear, go high or go home :)
Ghost settings

BE CAREFUL!

This is set at 0, meaning the ghost can instantly kill you if you're stepping on it. You might want to set it to 1 or 2 and if you're smart enough you might realise that you're right inside the ghost, but i won't cover that cause it's a tryhard guide, not a cryhard one.
Contract settings
Choosing the map
Oh right, we chose the difficulty but didn't even think of the map. Well, I have some experience on every map but right now I shall choose to show you a guide on Camp Woodwind. If this guide gets enough hype i might make another one for most of the maps, but until then LET'S ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GO AND EXTERMINATE SOME GHOSTS
What items shall you bring??
Oh right, we can't exterminate them without some equipment. Let's dive in and see what and why you DO NEED these items:

IItem
Tier
Required/Optional
E.M.F.
Any
Optional
Cruciix
Any
Optional
Firelights
Any
Optional
Igniter
Any
Required
Incense
1
Required
Motion Sensor
Any
Optional
Parabolic Microphone
2/3
Optional
Salt
2
Required

As you see, there is only Salt, igniter and incense worth buying for this strat which should add up to a max $75 every game, which is not bad because the minimum guaranteed with this strategy is $150.

The optional ones are for objectives, it may not look very worth for them, but take a look at 2 different game results. One has completed objectives and the other one doesn't

Actually i've been playing for like 10 games trying to not get an objective it's really hard so this is about the usual you will get ( around 2600 with no objectives )

The optional consumable items cost $45. So you would spend about that every game on them.
The one time cost is $320. So each time you die you'd have to spend about that much on the optional items. I am not using the crucifix tho so i'm down to $260 every death.

WHY TIER 2 SALT AND TIER 1 INCENSE?

Great question! Tier 2 salt is a line of.. Salt. We aren't going to use the tier 3 since it is slowing down the ghost, making it a lot harder to realise which ghost it is based on footsteps. You could also use Tier 1 but it's hard to do so and you will see why in the setup section.

Tier 1 incense is the best since it's the default one and the other tiers also slows down the ghost. We don't want that, we have to figure out the ghost and if it slows down we're gonna get confused

Identifying ghosts
These are the Ghost that you can determine in a game. If the ghost doesn't match any of these descriptions it's probably the other ones that cannot be determined while in a hunt so therefore just guess and go.

Revenant
This is the easiest one to guess. While in a hunt the Revenant will move really slow until it sees you, after that it'll just go usain bolt on you. If you use the incense and then it moves really slow again though it most definitely is a Rev.

Hantu
Similar to the Revenant, the Hantu may have different speeds based on the room its running in during a hunt. The Hantu moves faster the colder a room is/slower the warmer a room is. It's probably pretty hard to determine it but there are only 3 fast af ghosts no matter if they see you or not. Hantu, Moroi and Thaye. Hantu can be given away by his freezing breath, which is the only ghost that has this feature. If he has freezing breath it's 100% a Hantu.

Deogen
Well, this is a scary one. Not because he looks like ♥♥♥♥ but because he's a crackhead. When he's far away he moves like he's on cocaine and when he gets closer he moves really slow, so you might check by letting him get close then if he slows down it's a deo, if not it's prob a Thaye, Rev or a Moroi lmao, bad luck.

Moroi
To test for Moroi, keep in mind that he's the 2nd fastest ghost in the game and therefore you might just be careful. When he gets close use an Incense then count the seconds he ignores you for.
7.5 seconds instead of 5 for a Tier I Incense
9 seconds instead of 6 for a Tier II Incense
10.5 seconds instead of 7 for a Tier III Incense
The only problem is that, the ghost won't stop moving after you use the Incense, It will go where It thinks you are, and if you're unlucky it may go right after you and actually make you think the timer is out but it's not, so be careful.

Yokai
Not my favourite but it's pretty fun, if you're hid you can literally scream the Canadian Anthem and it won't even notice your voice unless it's 2.5m away from you. If you're screaming like hell and it's not even coming for you it's most probably a yokai.

Obake
Ignore the hands, look for the booty. During a hunt an Obake will likely shapeshift in-between flickers to different models. you must pay attention to the ghost, it's guaranteed it will shapeshift at least once every hunt. While looking at the ghost you can also determine for Oni and Phantom, look below for more

Poltergeist
A normal ghost has a 50% chance of throwing one item every 0.5 seconds, Poltergeist has 100% chance. A normal ghost throw force is 1-3, a Poltergeist is 2-6. Basically if it throws a lot and with a lot of force it's a polter. you can check by creating a pile of items since it can also throw multiple items at once but you can't really do that on this difficulty

Wraith
Guess we found out why the salt is required. To check for a wraith place salt and if it steps through while hunting and if the salt isn't disturbed then it's a wraith, if it is disturbed then you can eliminate the ghost.

Yurei
if the ghost shuts the front door without ANY event happening, it's a Yurei. That's literally it lmao.

Banshee
you can't really find out, only on multiplayer. have 2 people far away from eachother then see who's the player that the ghost is targeting, then switch places and if it goes again for the same person it's a banshee, you can also check by a non-target going through the ghost without using an Incense. If it doesn't kill the person then it's a banshee. They only kill targets.

Demon
Actually this one is very hard to figure out, but if this happens randomly then you can know for sure it is a Demon. This ghost can hunt after 20 seconds since the last hunt, while other ghosts can hunt after 25 seconds since the last hunt. Also if you used an Incense while in a hunt, after the hunt ends you can start a timer. A demon will hunt after 60 seconds, other ghosts will hunt after 90.

Myling
The Mylings interference range for your electronics is only a very short distance less than its sound range, unlike normal ghosts. A good test is throwing an EMF at the place you're looping the ghost at and see if you can hear the ghost before it interferes with your EMF. if it does so, then it's not a Myling. The reason behind this is because myling can be heard from 12m instead of 20m.

Oni
While you're looping it, you have to see how visible it is, if it's more visible than other ghosts, then it's an Oni

Phantom
Phantom is the opposite of oni, if it's less visible than other ghost, it's a Phantom. Also this ghost will never appear in photos, and will stop the hunt if you take a photo of it.

Shade
Will not hunt if you're in the same room with her, so if you're waiting for a while and it's not hunting, you might want to switch the rooms to see if you're lucky.

The mimic
Basically the mimic will always have ghost orbs available, even on no evidence games. So if you see a ghost orb by any chance it's the mimic. Another way you can test for this is to wait for 2 hunts, if it acts differently the 2nd it's the mimic, if not then it might be mimicking the same ghost and you're unlucky af.

Spirit
you can't really figure it out, after you use an incense, it can only hunt after 180 seconds so that's the only way to figure it out

Raiju
You also can't figure it out unless you have an electronic. Place an electronic at the start of the round then loop his ass, if he's fast af stop the electronic then try another hunt, if it's a normal speed ghost it may be raiju ( OR THE MIMIC HAHAHAHHA )

The Twins
One twin has 90% speed and the other 110%, very slight difference, honestly i can't even figure this shiz out so if you can use this info. Good luck

Keep in mind that every ghost will gradually speed up if it has line of sight on you

Short summary cause it's too many info

Fast af: Revenant, Hantu, Moroi, Thaye, Deogen ( possible Raiju/The mimic )

Slow af: Revenant, Deogen

By looking at the ghost you can figure: Oni, phantom, obake

With Incense: Demon, Spirit

pay attention to sorroundings for polter

Joining the game
Now you know how you should play the game, but how about actually playing it?? I'm going to leave a video of my gameplay cause i'm too lazy to do an image explanation but that's pretty much the game. Good luck!

to the comment saying you got banned for doing this this is only making a custom difficulty and part of the game!

Heavy rain is not recommended because the map is outside, therefore it will affect your gameplay. I don't remember if the rain makes a sound or something but it's defo a visual handicap. Using fog on that map makes it feel like night vision, because everything is kind of white, therefore it'll be easier to spot the ghost and prepare

doesnt using the heavy rain/storm weather actually raise the modifier by .3 or something? why use fog?

I'll respond to comments rn. Jinn is not able to be identified in this difficulty due to the breaker being broken. You cannot get banned and I'm sorry to the guy that I deleted the comment but he specified some info i've done wrong on the yokai and myling and its fixed now. Thanks everyone!
