Guide: How to disable chat W/O HAVING TO MANUALLY MUTE
By Konger (no mic)
In this guide, I want to show you how to disable both voice and text chat in TF2, without having to manually mute every single player (by which I mean going to the "mute" option and choosing players whom you wish to no longer hear (or read) of).

Useful for those who simply wish to enjoy their game without annoying chat messages.

Step 1) Launch TF2.

Step 2) Go to Advanced Options. It's the gear symbol with a little plus sign at the bottom right of the main menu:

Step 3) Scroll down until you see Communication Options. There, you must un-check the box next to "Enable text chat":

-> You have now successfully disabled text chat. You no longer receive any text messages during a match. You are also no longer able to send any text messages yourself:

Disable voice chat
Unfortunately, simply un-checking the box next to "Enable voice chat" doesn't work. Neither does un-checking the box in the "Voice"-tab found within the regular game options:

This option doesn't work at all.

Accidentally hitting the "v"-key turns the voice chat back on (you also can't really disable that key), the same thing occurs if somebody in your lobby talks through their microphone.

Instead, you need to open the developer console (there are guides on Steam that show you how to do that) and enter the following command: voice_enable 0:

("0" disables voice chat, "1" enables it. Thanks to my steam buddy for showing me this trick, you know who you are pal 👍)

-> You should now have successfully disabled voice chat, congratulations.
