HOW TO PLAY RED DEAD REDEMPTION 1 ON PC

Rockstar isn't bringing RDR1 to PC anytime soon. Not everyone has a console or is willing to buy one just to play a single game – which is my case. Anyway, I HAVE A PLAN!

What most people don't know is that there's currently a perfect Xbox 360 emulator that runs pretty well even on mid-end PCs. It's called Xenia Canary. Here's how to download, install, and play Red Dead Redemption 1 for Xbox 360 on PC:

(Please note that I'm not responsible for anything bad related to the links mentioned here and your experience with them and yada yada.)

1. Firstly, you're going to need a controller. You can try to emulate one with your keyboard and mouse using third-party software, but frankly, it will never be as good as playing with a controller. Buy the cheapest one on Amazon or somewhere else, and you're good to go. I'm currently playing with a PS4 controller, and it feels great.

2. Follow the link: https://github.com/xenia-canary/xenia-canary/releases and download the latest xenia_canary.zip version.

3. Create a folder called ‘Xenia’ wherever you want. In my case, I created it inside my Games folder. Extract the contents of xenia-canary.zip into it.

Xenia Canary is installed.

Now you need the RDR1 ISO for Xbox 360.

1. You’re going to need a .torrent downloader. I recommend QBittorrent: https://www.qbittorrent.org

2. I hope Steam doesn’t punish me for sharing a link to a pirated game, but for safety's sake: (PIRATE BAY URL)/ description. php?id= 6781096 (remove the spaces)

If you don’t know Pirate Bay, you’re cute. Just DM me, and I’ll send you the link.

Simply click on “GET THIS TORRENT”. If you've installed QBittorrent or any other .torrent downloader, your browser will ask for your permission to open it.

Okay, now you have the ISO file.

The folder you downloaded will have two others: Disc 1 and Disc 2. Disc 1 is the RDR1 main game, and Disc 2 is its DLC, Undead Nightmare.

Let’s run the game.

1. Open Xenia Canary (xenia_canary.exe).

2. Click on File > Open… and open the Disc 1 folder. There, you will find rrod-rdrd1.iso. Open this one.

Congrats! Now you have Red Dead Redemption 1 running in your PC.

Tips for optimizing Xenia Canary:

1. Open the Xenia Canary folder.

2. There, you will find a file named xenia-canary.config. Open it with Notepad.

There are tons of config lines in this file, and I don't understand a word, but just two lines were useful enough for me.

3. Press Ctrl+F in Notepad and look for ‘draw_resolution_scale_x’.

The higher the number, the better the resolution of the game, but the heavier it gets too. You can go up to 3. Do some tests, but if you want maximum performance, set it to 1.

4. Now press Ctrl+F again in Notepad and look for ‘draw_resolution_scale_y’.

Same thing as before. Set to 1 for maximum performance, but lower graphics.

I think that’s it.

dude set up a google drive file with the ISO in it open publicly so people can avoid the computer aids that is the pirate bay. also pirate bay links are good for a month tops before the site gets relocated and all the files moved with it..

Hey ya'll, I thought I'd go ahead and contribute to this discussion with some better keyboard and mouse controls :)

To get keyboard/mouse bindings working (WASD for movement, mouse for camera movement/aiming, etc.), it would be best to install the Virtual Controller application (Virtualcontroller.exe) alongside Xenia.

Pro tip; if you don't have a VPN to safely torrent the game, just use the website vimm's lair. The site does throttle your download speed but it's better than worrying about losing your internet servicre
