It's a great remaster; don't get me wrong. But there are multiple changes that cannot currently be turned off in menu that affect the game.
Mods
Remove Weapon Changing Sound That Came From Quake III by Bathy Salts
  • Go to ...Quake 2\rerelease\baseq2 and put this[drive.google.com] file in there.

Change Green Crosses back to Red Crosses by Bathy Salts
  • Go to ...Quake 2\rerelease\baseq2 and put this[drive.google.com] file in there.

Quake 2 Unmastered by nickgovier

"This[www.nexusmods.com] mod allows you to customise some of the more significant gameplay tweaks of the Nightdive Studios remaster of Quake 2, to make it act more like the original. You can:
- Stop the berserker jumping
- Unnerf the railgun
- Add kick back to the machinegun
- Have barrels explode immediately
- Remove the compass" - nickgovier

  • Options, Accessibility, and turn screen flash amount to 0
Unresolved Changes
  • New SFX for footsteps
  • Glowing green on taking damage.
  • AI behavior changes.
  • New powerup FX.
  • Damage direction indicator.
  • Muzzle flashes.
  • Cannot use original FMVs.
  • New map areas.
  • More enemies.
  • Main menu is no longer all dog tags.
  • Death messages can no longer be changed based off gender command. Instead, it acts if gender command is set to none.
  • Hyperblaster was buffed.
  • Shotgun spread was changed.
  • Grenades bounce differently.
  • Parasites are now projectile instead of hitscan.
  • Player movement is different.
  • Pickup flash is gone.
  • (Will add more as they are found)

The last 20 years, I'm just hoping to play on a busy 'lithium' server like I'm used to.I miss the combat in the air like 'fighter jets' circling eachother. It was the best mod for me which added a lot of speed to the game....
There is 'lithminus' mod, works great with bots.... but I cannot see a way to see other 'lithminus' servers or start my own so others can connect.... I don't want to play bots, I want to play against human players. I think lithium will never come alive again, the only mod hat satisfy me, plain DM is so boring (to me) :(

IDK what happened, but the green crosses still appear on the trap power cubes; I could have sworn they were fixed.

Lmao, I've played Quake 2 since I was literally like 4. The remake is cool, go play a source port, since you're so veteran.

To the mentioned changes that need to be "un-mastered" i would like add the following:

- enemy attack damage should be restored ("remaster" clearly babies the player)
- enemy attack timing should be restored (Soldiers and Infantry enemies appear to
be able to occasionally skip attack animation and fire instantly, as soon as the player
is on the premises). This cheap-cheat should be removed, restore the original settings.
- SSG "stun" chance restored to the original game settings. (remaster=cheat)
- Pain / Stunned state timings should be restored to the original game settings.

Worth considering:
- Explosions, Blaster, Hyperblaster Phalanx shots - KMQuake2 style, or better(!).
- Phalanx shots to be firing out a weapon's barrel, and not out of the blue.
- Blaster/Hyperblaster needs a suitable muzzle flash effect. It's not an M16.
- 44Khz stereo FX support for mods that work with sound effects.

I've been wanting to play this game for 10 years but from the unbearable mouse acceleration of the original to the ''change everything'' remaster... I wonder if I'll ever be able to actually play it...

The changes made are absolutely baffling. What a fucking horrendous "remaster". I have no idea why more people aren't kicking up a fuss.

Quake 2 Unmaster by nickgovier adds the variable un_damage_indicator which remove the damage indicator.
