Original description

This mod simplifies the "Rancher" meme into the "Farm Life" meme. No longer the "weird animal-sacrificing anti-vegetable cult", this new version is made for those who love games like Stardew Valley.


- "Ranching" renamed to "Farming"
- Impact changed from "High" to "Medium"
- The meme now has nothing to do with diet preferences. Be a vegan farmer if you want!
- Dropped the mandatory animal sacrifices and symbol burning
- For the crop lovers, this meme unlocks the Animals AND Plants Specialist Roles.
- Moodlets based on the number of animals dropped.
- Stat offsets changed to give small bonuses to both plants and animals.



Why did you make this mod?
I love the idea of Ideology, but in its current state, I find it very restrictive. This is especially true when playing multi-ideo colonies. My hope is to make Ideology simpler, with a focus on rewarding the player rather than restricting or punishing them. Each meme should be exciting in its own way.


Doesn't this make the game too easy?
I don't think so. But that's ultimately up to you.


Is this mod compatible with x mod?
This mod is a simple XML patch. It should be compatible with most mods.

When I Ideology came out I thought Ranching was going to be like the "vanilla" meme... only to find out it basically made everything else harder. Thank you for keeping this mod going!

Thanks for continuing the mod.

I never have understood people needing to come into mods like this and cry about balancing. It's a QOL mod for people, and if you think it makes the game too easy, just don't use it?

I see mods like this as an expanded settings menu, which in default Rimworld you can use to make the game a peaceful base-building simulator with zero challenge. It's not that big of a deal.

Ironic that you mention Transhumanist, one of the meta ideology picks that have virtually no downside. Let's mention Human Primacy's +1 quality tier buff too shall we?

If you want a ranching themed run just build a farm, why do you want a free 20% increase to all the food you could create? Even better, create a custom difficulty and then set Butchering Yield and Harvest Yield to 500%. You get even more free stuff and you don't even have to download a mod to do it.

Imagine if you used the transhumanist meme but never left the stone age? There's would be no point. Ideology isn't just putting a sticker on your save file that says "We are ranchers! :)", the Ideology DLC is entirely designed to help you immerse yourself in the colony of your own design, but your idea of rancher/ farmers is too generic. There is really only 2 ways to get food that isn't farming/ ranching; you either buy all your food from traders or engage in cannibalism, and this mod actually gives you more meat from butchering human corpses.

"Give your run a theme"

So if I want a ranching-themed run with actual bonuses, why is my only choice to become turbo carnivores who reject vegetables? For a sandbox game there sure isn't a lot of freedom to choose.

Literally the whole point of the ideology DLC is to give your run a theme, if you're going to just replace all downsides of a meme with a free +20% from all food sources (and that means ALL since that +20% butchery yield is also going to benefit cannibals), you might as well not be using ideology at all. There is no objective reason for this mod to exist other than people not understanding why ideology exists.

The worst part is the Rancher meme doesn't actually forbid eating plants, all you get is a -4 mood for 1 day for planting human food crops, no penalty for eating plants as long as your food has ~some~ meat in it

I really like ranching AND farming and I enjoy ideologies, but it has always driven me nuts that I couldn't take an ideology that likes ranching due to the diet restrictions. This is perfect.
