Oslo Opera House
Completed in 2008, Oslo Opera House is the home of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, and the national opera theatre in Norway. The building is situated in the Bjørvika neighbourhood of central Oslo, at the head of the Oslofjord.

The roof of the building angles to ground level, creating a large plaza that invites pedestrians to walk up and enjoy the panoramic views of Oslo and make it appear to rise from the water.

The Snøhetta architects used three main materials in designing Oslo Opera House: stone, wood and metal. The principal stone used in the construction is the characteristic white marble from Carrara in Italy. The wood used in the foyer, public galleries and the Main House is oak, while the metal facades are clad in white aluminium, in a design by Løvaas & Wagle that evokes old weaving patterns. In addition, the design makes extensive use of large glass facades.

In the foyer the public is met by a light, open space with a large, undulating oakwood wall. Behind this wall are the opera house’s three performance halls, with the Main Stage forming the heart of the building.

The Opera House won the culture award at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona in October 2008 and the 2009 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture.

People
I've built in some pedestrian paths and gathering points so people walk onto the roof and mill around for a while.

Lighting
This asset exclusively uses Armesto's Spotlight Props Pack for its lighting. If you don't subscribe to it everything will be dark.

Placement
Placing the asset so that it appears to rise out of the water can be tricky, but not impossible. I recommend plopping it roadside on a flat section of land that is as low to the water level as possible and covers the footprint of the Opera House. Once plopped the land can be lowered around the front and side to reveal the lower structure. Use a single brush size for the section under the entrance bridge. You may need to use the 'Terraforming Network' asset by Ronyx69 to keep the waterside land at the correct level. This can also be used to lower the water sides but they will show a 'waterlogged' symbol. Use my screenshots to inform your placement.

This asset was commissioned by Veep.

Details
Footprint
35 x 18 Units
Geometry
23.3K tris, 185 tris LOD
Textures
2048 x 2048, LOD 256 x 256

All sub-buildings use the same textures so if you use the Loading Screen mod the textures will be shared by all the elements and this will reduce any load on your machine.

The asset can be found in the Unique Buildings tab.

I've tried to make this asset as realistic as possible and therefore the geometry tri count is high and the textures large. All of the texture elements have been created specifically for this asset in order for full control over the final look.

Please try this asset out and if there are any problems let me know in the comments below.
