Best towers for each faction
By Falchion
Ever had the dilemma on how best to spend your supplies when you're defending a minor settlement battle? I've always had this thought on which towers were the most cost-effective, and I was not able to find any comprehensive guides or videos on this topic so I decided to test it myself.

How the test is done
Map: Zoishenk - Kislev, Minor Settlement Battle
Enemy faction: Bretonnia
Lord: Prophetess with no spells and no abilities (needed simply because you cannot start the battle without a lord on both sides)
Test Subject: Foot Squires - 120 men squad

Scenario: For each faction, deploy towers of each tier up to a maximum cost of 2000 supplies.
This is the path that the enemy foot squires will take.

The Foot Squires will run along the red line until they reach my melee infantry, then engage them in combat until they eventually rout. The melee infantry I pick for each faction is the one with the highest melee defence, their goal is to just hold the line and ideally not get too many kills, as the main test here is the tower performance.

And this is how I deploy the towers.
For testing T1 Towers (500 supplies each), I build towers on all 4 circles marked.
For testing T2 Towers, (900 supplies each), I build the 2 towers on the Red and Blue Circle for a total of 1800 supplies.
For testing T3 Towers, (1400 supplies each), I build the T3 Tower on the Blue Circle, and a T1 Tower on the Red Circle for a total of 1900 supplies.
For testing T4 Towers, (2000 supplies each), I build the T4 Tower on the Blue Circle.

The goal is for the towers in each test to shoot at the foot squires until they rout. Once they rout, I check how many men are left in the squad, and also minus out the kills from the infantry squad I deployed to engage them, this will be the total number of kills the towers manage to get before the battle is over (enemy routs).

The enemy Prophetess lord will not get involved at all, for the first 3 tests she will get distracted by the tower at the red circle and stand near it, however for the Tier 4 Tower test as there is no tower at the red circle, she will escort the foot squires along their journey, and stop near them as they attack my infantry. This way the discrepancy for this Tier 4 test is that she provides a bonus of 3 leadership, making them rout slightly later than the other tests. My lord also does not get involved, sitting at the back and not participating.
Results
Here are the results found:
Legend:
The number in each cell represents the number of kills the towers get before the foot squires rout.
Yellow cell highlight means that the foot squires rout before reaching my infantry

In most cases, Tier 3 Towers are the best option for all factions except Beastmen, High Elves, Norsca, Skaven, Slaanesh and Vampire Coast. The Tier 3 (+1 T1) tower either performs the same or even outperforms the single Tier 4 tower.

For these other factions, their Tier 4 Tower is better, or for Slaanesh, their Tier 2 tower is the best.
Disclaimers
I don't have the Chaos Dwarves and Ogre Kingdoms DLC, so I can't test those.

The map I picked was after looking through about 10 maps and finding one where 4 towers are able to fire down on the foot squires without too much obstruction blocking their shots. There might be even better maps, however I did not want to look through every single one.

I used the number of kills rather than health remaining, which is not necessarily as reliable of a result as the foot squires may have a lot of badly injured models when they rout. However this would be more difficult to test as I cannot easily see how much damage the tower does, whereas it's much easier to see how many kills the tower gets by simply seeing how many models are left minus the kills from my infantry group.

Also, the results may vary if I test each Tower Tier a few times, especially Tier 3 and 4 as their shots can be rather inaccurate. However that would take up a lot of time, so I only tested each Tier for each faction once each.

For the Tomb Kings and The Vampire Counts, all of their melee infantry have the Fear Trait, which slightly skews the results of the test as the enemy foot squires will rout faster after engaging them. This can't be helped, but overall the difference in their tower performance between each other for the same faction should still be consistent.

This is good work, i would suggest using a low armor unit, and then a 100+ armor unit and run the tests side by side, other than that, it is still good information as it is. thanks.
