This is the world's most powerful hydraulic transmission diesel locomotive, equipped with two 3000 horsepower internal combustion engines, but now there is no remains of this locomotive. The reason why old industrial countries such as the Soviet Union, the United States, Germany, and France did not produce high-power hydraulic diesel locomotives is that the efficiency of electric transmission is 7% to 10% higher than that of hydraulic transmission.
The diesel locomotives manufactured in China belong to the world's advanced level without considering reliability, but the process of improving reliability has been a very difficult past. Chinese technicians conducted tests during the operation of the locomotive, and the results showed that although a four axle bogie was used, the wheel rail wear of this locomotive was basically the same as that of ND4 imported from France.
Unfortunately, in those years, the power of the locomotive did not need to be so large, and when two internal combustion engines were used for driving, the multi-locomotive with eight axles was easier to maintain. Therefore, this locomotive was ultimately split into two small internal combustion locomotives with 3000 horsepower.
