Competitive / Matchmaking Ranks
In Competitive mode, players are placed in a skill group based on their performance in matches. There are 18 ranks in total, with each rank representing a different skill level. The ranks, in order from lowest to highest, are below along with the icons that represent each rank.

Wingman Ranks
Wingman mode is a 2v2 game mode, and it has its own separate ranking system. The ranks in Wingman mode are similar to the Competitive ranks, but they have their own unique icons, below is what they all look like.

Danger Zone Ranks
Danger Zone is a battle royale game mode in CS:GO, and it also has its own ranking system. The ranks in Danger Zone are based on your overall skill level, as well as your performance in matches. There are 18 ranks in total that you can obtain in Danger Zone and they have a vastly different design to what can be seen in both Competitive / Matchmaking and Wingman. The ranks in Danger Zone are shown below along with the icon that represents each one.

Profile Levels / Ranks
In addition to the three main ranking systems in CS:GO, there is also the Profile Levels / Ranks system. This system is separate from the other ranking systems, and it measures a player's progress and activity in the game via experience points. There are up to 40 levels in the game and once a user hits Level 40 they are given the option to obtain a service medal which is a collectible of which the player can display on their profile in-game.

Players can also receive drops as they level up their profile in CS:GO. These drops can include weapon skins, cases, and other in-game items, and they are rewarded at random intervals as players accumulate experience points.

The items that players can receive from drops vary in rarity and value, and some items can be quite valuable on the Steam Community Market. However, the chances of receiving rare items from drops are relatively low, so it's important not to rely on drops as a primary source of income.

To increase their chances of receiving drops, players can earn experience points by playing a variety of game modes and maps, and by completing weekly missions. The more experience points a player earns, the higher their chance of receiving a drop.

Drops are a nice bonus for players who are actively playing and leveling up their profile in CS:GO, but they should not be relied upon as a primary source of income or progression in the game.

Service Medals
Service medals in CS:GO are prestigious awards that players can earn by reaching level 40 in the Profile Rank system. Once a player reaches level 40, they will be given the option to obtain a service medal for that year. The service medal is a collectible that can be displayed on a player's profile in-game, and it serves as a symbol of their dedication and achievements in the game.

To earn a service medal, players must accumulate enough experience points by playing various game modes, including Casual, Competitive, Wingman, and Danger Zone. Each year, a new service medal is released with a different design, and players can earn a maximum of one service medal per year. Players who have obtained service medals in previous years will have those medals displayed on their profiles, along with the year they were earned.

Overall, service medals are a prestigious symbol of a player's dedication and skill in CS:GO, and they are a great way to show off your achievements to other players.

Rank Distribution
The rank distribution in CS:GO is a bell curve, with the majority of players falling in the middle ranks. The lowest ranks, such as Silver and Gold Nova, are typically occupied by new or less experienced players, while the higher ranks, such as Global Elite and Supreme Master First Class, are reserved for the most skilled and experienced players. It's important to keep in mind that rank distribution can vary depending on region, game mode, and time of day, but generally speaking, achieving a higher rank in CS:GO requires a combination of skill, dedication, and experience.

Below is a graph created by Leetify (https://blog.leetify.com/). They analysed 7 million unique CS:GO matchmaking players to produce an updated view of the current rank distribution across CS:GO matchmaking. The bar chart, below from left to right, displays the rank distribution from lowest to highest.
