FIXED - Maestro's Evil Eye, Valkyrie's Black Eye, and the Bulletproof Camera cannot be accessed in Online matches with the unique or secondary ability input button.

FIXED - Brava's Kludge Drone does not display out of range feedback on HUD when failing a hack due to distance.

FIXED - Reload animation for 6P41 doesn't start from the same spot when cancelled while inserting the magazine.

FIXED - Hack VFX does not switch team colors after hacking a Defender drone converted by Brava's Kludge Drone, then converted again with Mozzie's Pest.

In this latest edition of Designer's Notes, we'll go into detail about the balancing changes that'll come with the Y8S1.2 Balancing Test Server and give you some insight into the reasons behind them.

Please note that we are using presence to gauge the popularity of an Operator. This notion had to be introduced to reflect the implementation of the pick & ban.

Kapkan has a highly lethal kit. It gives him a variety of different ways to kill his enemies. By removing the 1.5x sight from his weapon, he will need to be more careful with direct engagements and rely a bit more on his utility.

Oryx's popularity has increased season over season. Players are enjoying his ability to rotate faster than any other defender and surprise attackers. Since the change of his primary weapon, his presence has increased more than 25% and his KD is one of the highest at the moment.

The addition of the 1.5x sight to Oryx's kit brought attention to him. The T-5 with this sight is an extremely powerful combination (which is why we took it away from Lesion back in Y5S4). So now that players have realized the potential of Oryx's abilities, we'll be removing the sight.

WAMAI
MP5K

• Sights: Add 1.5x.

Last year, Wamai was hit twice in a row. First by removing the 1.5x from the MP5K and then by increasing the recoil of the AUG. The combination of these two changes have caused his win delta to suffer more than we anticipated, so he will recover the sight.

SHUMIKHA LAUNCHER

• Ammunition: Increased to 20 projectiles (from 14).
  
• Magazine size: Reduced to 5 (from 7).

• Sights: Added 1.5x and 2.0x.

Having a launcher equipped as a defender is dangerous, as it can leave you exposed to a rushing attacker. but we still believe that launchers can be viable on defense, so we will continue exploring ways to find their fit in the game.

We've previously improved Tachanka's Shumikha Launcher, to make it more reliable at ranges other operators can't match, but with this update we want to focus on improving how long he can deny an area. Tachanka was already one of the best in this category but because of his smaller area of denial it left players feeling they needed to use more projectiles to compensate. By increasing the number of projectiles, Tachanka can clearly be seen as the best option to deny a narrow area. However, as the game's fire system can be quite taxing, we will reduce the magazine size to prevent the stacking of too many areas in a short period of time.

• Damage bonus: Reduced to 12% (from 15%).

The initial reaction to the Extended Barrel rework was like that of the Silencer, in that it was the potential dawn of a new meta. It is easier to see the benefit of a flat damage increase with the Extended Barrel versus gaining a perk while leaving damage untouched as with the Silencer.

Normally the pick rate of a new change goes up drastically because of the novelty and starts to fall after time is spent playing to evaluate the pros and cons. While this evolution stays mostly true in high ranks, it hasn't been the case in lower ranks where we have seen the presence of the attachment go up slowly.

While veteran players tend to evaluate the usefulness of the new attachment depending on how they will play, the rest of the population is seeing the damage buff as something good to always have. We, instead want the selection of an attachment to be a thoughtful decision.

We've been happy with the effect the Extended Barrel's adjustments have had on the game, but we will reduce the damage bonus to make the decision to use it a bit tougher.

Note: This tactic is controversial - won't work most of the time.

Peeker's Advantage

Peeker's Advantage is a phenomenon that occurs in multiplayer games requiring quick reactions and tactical decision-making. It arises when a player actively moves around a corner and has an advantage over an opponent who is stationary and peeking around the same corner. The player who moves around the corner sees their opponent first and has more time to react and shoot before the opponent even sees them.

This advantage is due to the way multiplayer games function over the internet, which use a "client-server architecture" technology where a server acts as an intermediary between players. When a player performs an action, it is sent to the server, which then relays that action to all other players in the game. However, this leads to delays, known as "ping," which indicate how long it takes for information to be sent from the server back to the player. A high ping can cause issues, as the player may not be able to react in time to actions.

There are ways to minimize Peeker's Advantage, such as increasing connection speeds to reduce ping or making tactical decisions to minimize the opponent's advantage. For example, holding passiv angles or avoiding angles that allow opponents to quickly peek around corners.

Pre-Firing

Pre-Firing is a technique in multiplayer games where you fire shots at a spot where you expect an enemy to be before actually seeing them. This can be useful to catch the enemy off guard and deal damage before they have a chance to react. If you know that an opponent will push or peek a particular spot, pre-firing can give you a significant advantage.

Drone Usage

Use drones to scout ahead: The most obvious use for drones is to scout ahead and identify enemy positions. This can be done by driving your drone into a room and checking for enemies or by using your drone to peek around corners.

• Use drones to gather information: Drones can be used to gather all kinds of information, including the location of objectives, the number of enemies, and the layout of the map. Use your drone to gather as much information as possible before entering a room or engaging in a firefight.
  
• Use drones to distract enemies: Drones can be used as a distraction to lure enemies out of position. Try driving your drone into a room and then quickly pulling it out to get the attention of any enemies in the area.
  
• Use drones to clear out traps: Drones can be used to clear out traps, such as frost mats or Kapkan traps. Drive your drone into a room and use it to identify any traps that may be present.
  
• Use drones to coordinate with your team: Drones can be used to coordinate with your team and plan your approach. Use your drone to scout ahead and communicate any information to your teammates.

How to use drones effectively:

• Don't rush: Take your time when using your drone. Rushing can lead to mistakes, such as driving your drone into an enemy or missing an important piece of information.

Determine Operator Strength in Rainbow Six Siege

If you're not sure how good your operator is in Rainbow Six Siege, one helpful tip is to check the developer notes. By reviewing these notes, you can get a better understanding of how your operator has been affected and how they fit into the current state of the game.

Another useful metric to consider is operator pick rates in professional play. While pick rates can vary depending on the map and the team's strategy, operators that are consistently picked tend to be stronger and more versatile in the current meta. By playing these operators, you can increase your chances of success and better contribute to your team's overall strategy.

However, it's important to remember that operator strength is not the only factor to consider when choosing your operator. Your own playstyle, map knowledge, and team composition can also influence which operator you should choose. For example, if you're playing a supportive role, you may want to choose an operator like Thatcher or Twitch to disable enemy gadgets and support your team's entry. If you're more aggressive, operators like Ash or Zofia may be a better fit for you.

Mouse and Keyboard on Consoles
On consoles, some players are using external "input spoofing devices" to play with a keyboard and mouse instead of a controller. This gives them an unfair advantage against controller players. This is a common issue in all competitive shooters, including Rainbow Six Siege. The development team agrees that it's unfair and is working on a solution called MouseTrap.

What is MouseTrap?
MouseTrap is a console-centric research and development initiative led by the Rainbow Six Siege team. It is a detection tool that can identify input spoofers. The system has been running in shadow mode for several seasons to gather data on players who use spoofing devices.

Penalties
The goal of MouseTrap is to encourage fair play. Players detected using a spoofing device will receive a "Mouse & Keyboard Penalty" that adds latency to their inputs. The penalty will increase over several games if the use of MnK is still detected. If the player removes their spoofing device, the lag will gradually decrease.

Additionally, not all players will be penalized. The higher your skill level, the more chance you have of being affected by this new penalty.

Accessibility
The development team worked with an accessibility group to ensure that disabled players who use adaptive technology are not unfairly penalized. If a disabled player feels unfairly penalized, they can use an in-game QR code to contact the team.

Current stage
MouseTrap is an experimental solution aimed at restoring a balance between competition and skill while promoting fairness and a positive experience for all players. The team will continue to analyze the results, improve the detection, and adjust the penalties in future seasons.

Release date
MouseTrap will be deployed during Y8S1.2, in April 2023.

REPUTATION STANDING
Each player will be given a Reputation Standing which reflects their in-game behavior. There are 5 Standings ranging from Dishonorable at the lowest, and Exemplary at the highest point.

HOW YOUR STANDING IS ATTRIBUTED
The Reputation System tracks various in-game actions, assigning a score to them, and applying effects to player accounts. This generates the Reputation Standing, a rating that indicates how players' actions are perceived. The system aims to be transparent and reliable, allowing players to understand how their actions impact their standing and how to improve it. The objective is to provide feedback, encourage healthy interactions, and discourage toxic behavior. Ultimately, the goal is to foster positivity, inclusivity, and engagement within the game.

EFFECTS OF YOUR STANDING
To start, the Reputation Standing will not have any positive or negative impacts on player accounts. Our aim is for players to become familiar with the system and have time to adjust their behavior accordingly before any effects are implemented.
In Year 8, penalties and bonuses will be activated based on a player's Standing.

FINDING YOUR REPUTATION STANDING
Players can view their Reputation Standing by accessing the Reputation tile on the main menu, their profile page, or the Reputation hub. However, this information will not be visible to other players since it is private. The Reputation hub is the primary location for all Reputation-related activities, and it provides players with more detailed information about the system and their current Standing. Additionally, the Reputation tile has been updated to show players their current Standing quickly, while their Player Profile displays both their Standing and any active penalties.

Battle Pass

Rainbow Six Siege Battle Pass has evolved from its linear system into one with branching paths. Now you can plan your progression and get the rewards you want faster.

• Play matches to earn Battle Pass Tokens and Breach Charges.
  
• Plan your path and use your Tokens to unlock tiles and get rewards (1 Token unlocks 1 tile).

How sound works in real life

Sound is a physical phenomenon that involves the transmission of pressure waves through a medium, usually air. When an object vibrates, it creates pressure waves that propagate through the surrounding air, causing the air molecules to compress and expand in a series of oscillations. These pressure waves then travel through the air as sound waves, which can be detected by our ears and interpreted by our brains as sound.

The physical properties of sound waves can be described in terms of several key parameters, including frequency, wavelength, amplitude, and velocity. Frequency refers to the number of oscillations per second and is measured in hertz (Hz). The frequency of a sound wave determines its pitch, with higher frequencies corresponding to higher-pitched sounds and lower frequencies corresponding to lower-pitched sounds.

Wavelength is the distance between two consecutive points on a sound wave that are in phase, and is related to the frequency of the wave. Amplitude refers to the height of the wave and is related to the loudness of the sound, with larger amplitudes corresponding to louder sounds.

Velocity refers to the speed at which the sound wave travels through the medium and is dependent on the properties of the medium itself, such as its density and elasticity. In air at room temperature, sound travels at approximately 343 meters per second (or about 1,125 feet per second).

In addition to these basic physical parameters, the behavior of sound waves can be influenced by various environmental factors, such as obstacles, reflections, and absorption. For example, sound waves can be reflected off surfaces like walls and floors, causing them to bounce around a room and create echoes. Sound waves can also be absorbed by certain materials, such as carpeting and drapes, reducing their intensity and creating a more muted sound environment.

The ohm rating of headphones refers to the electrical impedance of the headphones. Impedance is the measure of resistance that a device presents to the flow of an electrical signal. In headphones, the impedance is a measure of the electrical resistance of the headphones to the audio signal being sent to them.

The impedance of headphones affects the way that they interact with the audio source. Specifically, headphones with higher impedance require more power to drive them than headphones with lower impedance. The reason for this is that higher impedance headphones offer more resistance to the flow of the electrical signal, which means that more electrical power is required to produce the same sound levels.

Sound in Rainbow Six Siege

The game uses a sophisticated audio engine that simulates the behavior of sound waves in a virtual environment, taking into account factors such as distance, direction, and the materials that the sound waves encounter.

The audio engine in Rainbow Six Siege uses a system called occlusion and obstruction, which simulates how sound waves are affected by objects and obstacles in the game environment. In addition, Rainbow Six Siege's audio engine also simulates the properties of different materials, such as metal, wood, and carpet, which affect how sound waves behave when they encounter these surfaces. For example, footsteps on a metal surface may sound louder and more distinct than on a carpeted floor.

In Rainbow Six Siege, sound changes dynamically based on the environment and destruction happening in the game world. When a hole is created in a wall or floor, the sound waves can now travel through that opening, allowing sounds to be heard more clearly from that direction. Additionally, when a surface is broken, it can change the way that sounds bounce and reverberate, leading to a different acoustic environment.

For example, if a player shoots a hole in a wall, it can create a clear line of sound transmission, allowing players to hear sounds from the other side more easily. If a player uses explosives to destroy a wall or floor, it can create a larger opening and change the acoustic environment in the surrounding area, affecting how sound travels and how it is heard.

How it works

TV - Hi-Fi - Nightmode

The TV, Hi-Fi, and Nightmode sound settings in Rainbow Six Siege work by adjusting the frequency response of the audio output to optimize it for different scenarios and personal preferences.

Equalization is used to adjust the frequency response of an audio system to achieve a desired sound quality. The TV mode in Rainbow Six Siege emphasizes the mid-range frequencies, while the Hi-Fi mode provides a wider frequency range that includes both high and low frequencies. The Nightmode setting reduces the dynamic range of the sound to make it more balanced at lower volume levels.

Smaller speakers such as those found in TVs or laptops may have limited bass response, while larger speakers or headphones may have a wider frequency range. By adjusting the frequency response of the audio output, the sound settings can optimize the sound output for different types of speakers or headphones.

In addition, human hearing has certain psychoacoustic properties that affect our perception of sound. For example, our perception of loudness is not solely based on the amplitude of the sound wave, but also on the frequency content and other factors. The Nightmode setting in Rainbow Six Siege takes this into account by reducing the dynamic range of the sound, which can help to minimize sudden loud noises and make it easier to hear softer sounds.

0.02 is the default MouseSensitivityMultiplierUnit.
In siege, you can't adjust your sensitivity by the decimals. only whole numbers.
Also, the predefined sensitivity numbers are way too high. nobody needs to play at a sense higher than 20 w/ 400 cpi. (Assuming you're using 83 ADS (which makes your hipfire and aim down sights sensitivity practically the same))
Luckily, there is a way to essentially "zoom in" on the sensitivity number scale.
That's where the MouseSensitivityMultiplierUnit comes into play.
So, if i where to change the MouseSensitivityMultiplierUnit to 0.002 (apposed to 0.02), it would "zoom in" ten times. (effectively adding in a decimal system.)
Example 0.02 multiplier in game sense 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 is the same as 0.002 multiplier in game sense 10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90,100.
so... 22 sense with a 0.002 multiplier is the same as 2.20 with a 0.02 multiplier.

Ranked is the competitive playlist for Multiplayer in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. It becomes available to players upon reaching level 50. While similar to standard multiplayer, it offers numerous changes.

A revamped version known as Ranked 2.0 was released in the Operation Solar Raid expansion.

Good to know

• The Rank system is used to track a player's progress in the competitive ladder.
  
• A player's Rank is updated after each match based on their Rank Points (RP).
  
• The amount of RP gained or lost after a match is proportional to the difference between a player's skill level (represented by the Glicko-2 rating system's μ) and their current Rank.
  
• There are no ties in Rainbow Six Siege matches.
  
• The Rank system uses a modified version of the Glicko-2 rating system, which incorporates both a player's skill level (represented by the μ value) and their level of uncertainty (represented by the σ value).

Ban Phase

Map Ban
Map Ban is a game mode option in Rainbow Six Siege where players can ban maps from the current rotation. At the beginning of a match, each team will have the opportunity to ban one map from a pre-selection of five maps randomly chosen from the current map pool. If both teams ban the same map, then it will be removed, and a random map from the remaining map pool will be chosen for the match. Players also have the option to not ban any map. Map Ban is available for both Ranked and Unranked playlists.

Operator Ban
Operator Ban is a game mode option in Rainbow Six Siege where each team has the ability to ban one Attacking Operator and one Defending Operator for the entire match. At the beginning of a Ranked match, each team has 30 seconds to choose one operator to ban. The operator with the majority of votes will be banned. Each player on the team has one vote, for a total of five votes per team. The operators that are banned are unavailable for both teams for the entire match. Operator Ban is also available for both Ranked and Unranked playlists.

Descent and descent protection

Typically, if you lose a match and the resulting RP is below 0, you will be relegated to the previous division/rank. But we've introduced the new anti-descent system to prevent just that. Instead, you now end up with 0 RP. This only happens if you start the match with more than 0 RP. If you lose a match when you already have 0 RP, you will be demoted as normal.

Calculations

The formula for Rainbow Six Siege's Rank 2.0 system will take into account the degree to which a player has won or lost a match, as well as the estimated skill levels of both the player and their opponent, to update the player's mean skill estimate and skill uncertainty.

The update to the player's mean skill estimate (μ) will be determined by the function:

Δμ = g(σOpp) * ((s - E) + (s^2 - E^2) / 20)

where g(σOpp) is the same function as in the original formula, σOpp is the opponent's skill uncertainty, s is the outcome of the match (1 for a win, 0 for a loss), and E is the player's expected outcome based on their and their opponent's mean skill estimates.

The additional term (s^2 - E^2) / 20 in the formula takes into account the degree to which a player has won or lost a match. If a player wins by a larger margin, the term will be larger, resulting in a larger update to their mean skill estimate. Conversely, if a player loses by a larger margin, the term will be smaller, resulting in a smaller update to their mean skill estimate.

The update to the player's skill uncertainty (σ) will be determined by the formula:

Δσ = sqrt((c^2 * p) / (1 + (c^2 * p))) * ((s^2 - E^2) / 20 + 0.1)

where c is a constant value that determines how much a player's σ value should change with each update, and p is a measure of the player's rating volatility (how much their skill estimate has changed recently).

The additional term (s^2 - E^2) / 20 in the formula takes into account the degree to which a player has won or lost a match, just like in the update to the mean skill estimate. The constant 0.1 ensures that there is always some minimum change in the player's skill uncertainty, regardless of the outcome of the match.

Overall, this formula will allow the Rank 2.0 system to more accurately estimate players' skill levels based on the degree to which they have won or lost matches, resulting in more balanced matchmaking and a more competitive playing experience.

Example
Player A has a skill level of 2500 (represented by the Glicko-2 rating system's μ) but starts the season at Copper V Rank due to their Rank from the previous season. Because their Rank is much lower than their skill level, they will gain a large amount of RP (up to 80 RP in Y7S4) for each win and lose a minimal amount of RP (around -9 RP in Y7S4) for each loss. As they progress towards their true Rank, the weight of their wins and losses will be adjusted accordingly. On the other hand, Player B has a skill level of 2200 and is already at Silber II Rank. They will receive a standard amount of RP (around 40 RP for a win and 30 RP for a loss) as their Rank is already reflective of their skill level. However, they still have the opportunity to climb higher in the ladder with consistent wins.

Training Grounds

Training Grounds (previously known as Terrorist Hunt) is a PVE playlist featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. While similar to past iterations of the Terrorist Hunt, it features additional game types similar to Multiplayer.

Map Layouts
The White Masks have different methods of impeding the on-site Operators. They will often trap rooms and hide behind shields or other objects.

Lone White Masks
Sometimes, a White Mask on the map will be by themselves. This can include Ambushers hiding behind deployable shields, or Roamers moving around one of the floors and hiding in rooms.

Reinforced Rooms
Generally, a Terrorist Hunt match will only contain one or two reinforced rooms. These rooms usually contain the objective. In a reinforced room, most doors and windows are barricaded. The walls will be reinforced and the room will contain an Engineer, as well as several Ambushers hiding behind deployable shields and other kinds of cover. Roamers that are not patrolling the hallways may be in these rooms as well, but this is rare.

A supply box may also found in those rooms; depending on the difficulty, each box may be used for 7 times or 5 times. In the Article 5 situation, the boxes can be used indefinitely. Supply boxes take 5 seconds to use. In addition to replenishing reserve ammunition, using one also reloads both primary and secondary weapons. They refill most generic gadgets, but do not provide extra Deployable Shields and Operators unique abilities (unless it's castle's armor panels).

Variations
Terrorist Hunt currently features four different game mode variations. Each features three difficulties that increase the stakes of each mode as well as a number of enemies. They are Normal, Hard, and Realistic.

The difficulty modes affect enemy precision, damage, and Operator health on revival. Enemy behaviors also change with increasing difficulty: on Hard games, enemies sometimes guess-fire through walls and flank Operator by going outside; on Realistic games, both behaviors become much more aggressive.

Elimination
Elimination (previously known as Terrorist Hunt Classic) is the normal mode of Terrorist Hunt. Similar to the original Terrorist Hunt, this mode simply involves eliminating a set number of White Masks in a map. The only possible ways to lose is for the entire Attacking team to die or let the timer run out.

Depending on the difficulty setting, the number of enemies and the allotted time will be different:

On Realistic difficulty, not all terrorists are spawned when the map begins. More waves of enemies will arrive, sometimes from outside, after a set amount of kills.

On all difficulties, when the number of living White Masks is down to 3, they will all immediately learn the location of the Operators and will attempt to hunt them down (on hard it is 4, on realistic, 5 enemies).

Protect Hostage
Protect Hostage involves defending a civilian in a room from five waves of an increasing number of enemies.

The Defenders have a preparation phase to fortify their position and create an improvised defense before being assaulted by waves of White Masks.

Upon defeating all enemies in the round, players will then have another short preparation phase before the next round begins.

The Defenders will lose the game if all of them have been eliminated or their hostage has died.

Running outside will cause an Operator's death instead of being simply spotted. They will have 10 seconds to return inside before they die instantly from enemy overwatch.

No Ambushers will spawn on Protect Asset, the main enemy being Roamers and Engineers.

Extract Hostage
Hostage Extraction tasks players with extracting a hostage. In this mode, the Hostage will spawn in a random location from the usual "Hostage" multiplayer choices. The White Masks will usually place the hostage in a reinforced room, and there will often be one other reinforced room on the map, which may be located above or below the hostage room.

Floors containing reinforced rooms will usually contain a large number of White Masks, while other floors will contain a minimal amount of them. If a map has three floors or more, there will often be a floor that is completely empty. When the Hostage has been retrieved, more White Masks will spawn around the Extraction Site. All White Masks in a certain radius, as well as a few from the extraction point, will move to the operator which grabbed the hostage.

If the White Masks kill the hostage (most likely by luring their gunfire via a drone), the Attackers will lose.

Disarm Bomb
Disarm Bombs tasks Attackers with infiltrating the building and individually disarming two chemical bombs the White Masks have set up. Upon planting the defuser within the Bomb's room, the team must defend the defuser from the White Masks attempting to disable it for 60 seconds before moving on to the next Bomb. There will almost always be two reinforced rooms on the map containing the bombs, these may be on the same floor or on two different floors.

Similar to Extract Hostage, floors without a reinforced room will contain few White Masks, and there may be a floor with none of them.

When the first bomb is defused, multiple Engineers will spawn on the map and reinforce walls around the map.

Attackers are notified when the defuser is being attacked, with the progress shown with a red icon. The White Masks can be interrupted with Stun Grenades and Ying's Candelas, or shooting them outright.

Enemy Archetypes
Main article: White Masks
The White Masks, the primary enemies in Terrorist Hunt mode, are trained to barricade, reinforce and set up traps and ambushes but are separated into archetypes that specialize in different tactics developed to combat against the outnumbered Rainbow team.

Unnamed OPFOR Units
In addition to the White Masks, Situations 1, 2 and 6 feature these enemies of unknown agenda and affiliation. These enemies use the AI and weaponry of the Ambusher enemy archetype when on defense. On attack, they act the same as attacking Roamers and Engineers but non-Ballistic Shield users will only use the L85A2.

Custom Game +Scrim Settings

Custom Game is a playlist creator available in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege for all players. It allows players to create a playlist with its own set of rules, map rotation, etc. Due to the unofficial variations the playlist offers, matches do not reward Renown or XP.

Playlist Creation

Players must first select whether or not the custom game will be local or online with dedicated servers. Two playlist types are available: Normal and Tactical Realism. The following options are available for both playlist types.

Tactical Realism was a hardcore version of the original gamemode. The gamemode forces players to rely on communications and teamwork instead of the HUD.

Unranked

Unranked is a playlist available in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege that was introduced in the Operation Ember Rise expansion. The playlist is available for all players with a Clearance Level of 10 or above.

The purpose of the playlist is for players to practice and prepare themselves for the Ranked Playlist. It features all the rules, gameplay changes, and map rotation as the Ranked playlist but does not affect the player's rank, Ranked Kill/Death ratio, or MMR points. Additionally, any penalties incurred while in Unranked will also carry over to the Ranked Playlist and vice versa.

Team Deathmatch

Deathmatch is a mulitplayer playlist featured in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, introduced in the Demon Veil expansion.

Featuring the Team Deathmatch gamemode, it offers a more casual experience for players than other gamemodes.

Overview

Two teams of five players to obtain the most amount of kills in five minute matches. The first team to obtain 75 kills or have the most kills when the timer expires will be declared the winner.

All owned Operators are available on both teams except Blitz, Montagne, and Clash. Contrary to other gamemodes, Team Deathmatch allows more than one player to use the same Operator. Operators may be changed in the spawn menu. Access to Operator abilities and gadgets are restricted, except for Glaz's Scope. Additionally, all secondary gadgets are available except Nitro Cells and Claymores.

Arcade

Arcade is a playlist in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege introduced in the Operation Void Edge expansion. The playlist offers limited-time game modes that modify elements of existing modes and is usually on a smaller scale compared to regular event game modes. The Arcade playlist also includes returning events like Rainbow is Magic.

Each new expansion will see the release of a new limited-time gamemode. Ubisoft plans to eventually release more than one limited-time gamemode for each expansion.

A playlist is set to become permanent in the Year 8 Season 2 expansion.

Golden Gun

Golden Gun is a limited-time gamemode introduced to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege in the Operation Void Edge expansion. Playable in the Arcade playlist, the mode is available periodically for a span of four days.

Overview

The mode is a variant of Secure Area. The gamemode does not have a planning phase as the Attackers already know the whereabouts of the objective. Each player only has access to a D-50 adorned with the golden Extravagance weapon skin. The weapon is a one-hit kill to all players but will need to be reloaded after every shot. Knifing is possible which can make up a missed shot or close combat. Rounds are won once all players on the opposing team have been eliminated or the area is secured.

The second incarnation of the mode banned the use of the Deployable Shield. As a result, all defending Operators are given a temporary alternative such as the Bulletproof Camera or Nitro Cell.

The mode is available several times throughout the year for a span of four days once activated.

Attrition is a limited-time gamemode introduced to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege in the Operation Steel Wave expansion. Playable in the Arcade playlist, the mode was available from July 9, 2020 to July 13th, 2020.

Overview

The mode is a variant of Siege and is only available on Clubhouse, Consulate, and Coastline. Unlike the standard gamemode, all operators on the team that wins a round are banned from use on subsequent rounds. All operators are unlocked for use at the start of each match. Additionally, the gamemode has the same rules as an Unranked matched except for the lack of pick-and-ban.

Legacy

Legacy is a limited-time gamemode introduced to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege in the Operation Neon Dawn expansion. Playable in the Arcade playlist, the mode is available from December 17th, 2020 to January 5th, 2021.

Overview

This Arcade mode features the Bomb gamemode with the same rules as Quick Match. It features three classic maps prior to their reworks: Hereford Base, House, and Presidential Plane. Players may only select the 20 original Operators that were available during the game's initial release. Each Operator features the same loadout of weapons and gadgets as they did in December 2015. This includes gadgets and weapon attachments such as the ACOG sight for Ash's R4-C, Bandit's MP7, and Jäger's 416-C Carbine. The only exception to this rule is Tachanka and the Recruit who retain their reworked loadouts and abilities

Rainbow is Magic

Rainbow is Magic is an April Fools-themed limited time event in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege that was originally introduced during the Operation Burnt Horizon expansion.

The event initially ran from April 1st, 2019 to April 8th, 2019 but had its end date extended to April 15th, 2019 due to its popularity. The event returned as an Arcade Mode during the Crimson Heist expansion. Known as Rainbow is Magic (Again), it was available from March 30th, 2021 to April 5th, 2021.

Overview

Rainbow is Magic takes place on a special variant of the map Presidential Plane known as Air Cute One. The map features a dramatic visual overhaul, taking place as a toy set within the Kid's Bedroom on the prereworked version of House. The gamemode itself is a variation of Hostage, with the hostage in question called Mr. Bear who has a unique model and animations. The announcer is also replaced with a joyful, feminine voice with special voice lines, describing the game as if it were a children's book instead of a hostage rescue. Available Operators are modeled after army men except for Smoke, Montagne, Tachanka, and Blackbeard who wear bright pink outfits with the themes of a leopard, butterfly, unicorn, and princess, respectively.

• The Presidential Plane map was given several changes to create a magic-like, childish feel, and it also changed some of the normal aspects of the game to further this fantasy.
  • The usual map music that played upon entering the match was replaced with a frollicy music box theme.
    
  • Shooting, breaking, or exploding holes into soft walls on the updated map would make a star shape. It would also release a flurry of colorful confetti and make a glittery noise. This confetti also appears when you destroy Blackbeard's Rifle-Shield, obscuring some vision for both parties.
    
  • Environmental blood caused by shooting Operators or the Hostage was given a purple tint.
    
  • Environmental fog in certain parts of the map was tinted a vibrant green, causing some vision issues, similar to Smoke's Gas Grenades.
    
  • Attacking Drones were painted pink and given small cat faces. The yellow lights changed to pink as well.
    
  • Barricades were also given a happy paintjob with a rainbow, but Reinforcements were simply given a slight purple tint. Default and Operator gadgets went unchanged, making them far easier to see against the bright background.

• The map also had some interactive aspects.
  • Scattered throughout the map were several flower decals on the walls. If you damaged them, their petals would disappear and their happy faces would turn into frowns, crying loudly.
    
  • A couple radios throughout the map were given new upbeat, frollicy music as well, and could be destroyed to silence them.
    
  • In a few places, a gift box would sit. If you opened them by damaging them, a stuffed bear would appear and give a (usually sarcastic) voice line.

• Along with the change of scenery on the updated map, the pilot voice that occasionally gives announcements over the intercom also received new voice lines, making several references to community jokes.
  
• All of the Operator's voices were made high-pitched and faster while playing the gamemode.
  
• At the end of the game with the MVP sequence, the characters take army men poses on circular pedestals, to which the player in third place will fall over.
  
• The Spetsnaz Recruit was originally an available option during the first appearance of the event.
  
• The menu screen was replaced with a cutesy, colorful artwork of Smoke, Montagne, Tachanka, and Blackbeard in their pink outfits. The music was also replaced with an upbeat tune, that cut in after the loading screen with a vinyl scratch.
  
• The Rainbow is Magic Alpha Pack collection originally only featured 17 items. This was expanded to 21 items two years later with the addition of four weapon skins.
  
• The font used in many of the official graphics for the event is the same font used and popularized by My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
  
• During the event, the official Rainbow Six Siege Twitter held a contest for fanartists to make GIFs about the event. Ten winners were chosen.
  
• The event made a brief appearance at the Six Invitational 2021 Community Event as one of the playlists streamed during the event.
  
• In the 2021 version, the Toy Squid in the game mode is wearing a mask, referring to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Headshot is a limited-time gamemode introduced to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege in the North Star expansion.

Playable in the Arcade playlist, the mode was available from July 15th, 2021 to July 19th, 2021. The gamemode returned during the Demon Veil expansion and was available from March 31st, 2022 to April 5th, 2022.

Overview

The mode is a variant of Secure Area. The gamemode does not have a preparation phase as the Attackers already know the whereabouts of the objective. Players can only be eliminated by headshots and will not enter DBNO. Reinforcements are also unavailable in the mode.

Attackers are adorned in silver all over their bodies except their heads while Defenders are adorned in gold. Operators have fixed loadouts and unique gadgets are replaced with a second regular gadget. Atrackers are equipped with Stun Grenades and Breach Charges while Defenders have acces to Barbed Wire and Bulletproof Cameras.

Showdown

Showdown is a limited time event in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege that was introduced during the Operation Phantom Sight expansion.

The event initially ran from July 2nd, 2019 to July 16th, 2019. The event returned as an Arcade mode during the Crystal Guard expansion. Known as Showdown: Back to the West, it is available from September 21st, 2021 to September 28th, 2021.

Gameplay

The event features an exclusive map called Fort Truth. It features a unique 3v3 Secure Area gamemode with Tactical Realism rules.

Loadouts are limited to BOSG.12.2 and LFP586. Attacking operators are limited to one frag grenade and two smoke grenades each, while defending operators are limited to one deployable shield and two barbed wires, except Recruit who only has 1 barbed wire. As a result, none of the Operators are able to use any of their unique gadgets or abilities.

Snipers is a limited-time gamemode introduced to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege in the Operation Brutal Swarm expansion.

Playable in the Arcade playlist, the mode was available from September 21, 2022 to September 28, 2022.

Overview

The mode is a variant of Team Deathmatch. As with normal TDM, rounds are played with a 5v5 ruleset with no preparation phase. Each player has access to the CSRX 300 and the .44 Mag Semi-Auto. All Operators are unlocked in the gamemode and each has a 3 speed rating.

A round is won once one team has reached 75 kills. Alternatively, the team with the most kills at the end of the 8 minute time limit will be declared the winners. The gamemode is available on Fort Truth, Chalet, and Hereford Base.

Six Invitational

The Rainbow Six Siege: Six Invitational comic was released on January 28th, 2021. The comic serves as an in-universe promotional tie-in to the Six Invitational 2021.

Plot
In early 2021, Shuhrat "Fuze" Kessikbayev was invited by Jaimini "Kali" Shah to join her and the other members of Nighthaven for a training session at the Stadium kill house. At the end of the session, Kali asked Fuze why he hesitated in firing. Fuze explained that Apha "Aruni" Tawanroong was in his line of fire. Kali informed him that it was Nighthaven's policy to "play hard and take risks" and that friendly fire did not matter as no lives were on the line in the area. Soon after, a Nighthaven Osprey landed in the arena to deliver a piece of equipment to Kali. Fuze requested to tag along with them to see the equipment which Kali agreed to. While the it was offloaded from the Osprey, Fuze asked Kali if it was a problem that each of Nighthaven's members were on different teams for the Six Invitational. Kali stated that it wasn't as any accolade earned by a member of Nighthaven would make their organization more exclusive and allow them to demand higher rates for contracts.

Once inside the Stadium, Kali presented the Masterframe Prototype I to Fuze and the other members of Nighthaven. Kali explained that it was rated to absorb or deflect most conventional high-caliber rounds. She also stated that it was light weight, increased reaction time, reduced muscle strain, and was sealed against the majority of biological and chemical weapons. Fuze asked Kali if the equipment was Rainbow compliant and was told it was "more or less". He reminded her that she was supposed to wear her uniform for the Six Invitational. Kali dismissed this comment, saying that the Masterframe would be her uniform and that it was only the beginning. Fuze was then told by Kali that her people always had the best equipment and that he knew where to find her if he was looking for a career shift to join Nighthaven.

Plot
At the Nighthaven QCR facility, Anja Katarina "Osa" Janković was working on a military drone with a Nighthaven engineer named Phil. She told him about her favorite film, the Empress of the Plutomatons and was in disbelief that he hadn’t seen it yet. She then insisted that she would bring him a copy of the movie the next day and asserted that she was making it mandatory for all of her team members to watch it. She then sent Phil home for the night and was reassured that he had deactivated the drone's targeting system. Shortly afterwards, however, Osa activated the drone and discovered that its targeting system was still active as it started firing at several Nighthaven guards. She then ordered the remaining guards to stand down and entered the room. With her Talon 1 prototype, Osa managed to disable it by lodging the device into the drone's head.

The next day, Phil walked into the building and began praising Osa's favorite film when he noticed the damage caused by the drone. Phil was relieved that Osa was okay and asked about the guards. Osa told him they were fine as she was the one who built their armor. Phil apologized, swearing he had turned the targeting system off but was cut off by Osa who showed him a blueprint of the Talon 2. She then told him he could keep his job if he built it and to check the Talon 1, which was still lodged in the drone's head, for reference.

The Rainbow Six Siege: Demon Veil comic was released on March 30th, 2022. The comic serves as an in-universe promotional tie-in to the Demon Veil expansion.

Plot
In a flashback, Azami and Masayuki Yahata have a short conversation regarding Yahata's trust in her. In the present, Azami and Hibana are riding the latter's motocycle to the site of Yahata's death. Upon arriving, they meet with Jackal and Thatcher who surveyed the area. Jackal finds two sets of footprints leaving the area and notes that one of the assailants was badly injured. All of them then follow the footprints to a nearby abandoned factory. After entering the building and cornering one of the assailants, Azami locks eyes with him as the other three operatives remain behind cover. Hibana yells for the assailant to drop his weapon but is ignored. Thatcher then throws an EMP grenade to disorient and detain the man.

Azami approaches him and demands to know where they got their weapons from. The assailant explains that they had received an encrypted message about assassinating Yahata but believed it was a joke until they had received a crate full of Nighthaven weapons, intel, and money. Shortly after, Jackal finds the crate and the other injured assailant beside it. The man tells Jackal that they had received another message once they returned to the factory telling them to stay put.

Moments later, a helicopter opens fire on them, killing the first assailant. Azami throws several Kiba barriers for cover, enabling Jackal to pick up the injured assailant and allow all of them to run to safety. As they watch the helicopter leave, Hibana remarks that if their attacker works for Nighthaven, then they have just 'declared war' on Rainbow. Azami states that it doesn't matter who they work for as everyone involved in Yahata's assassination will pay. This prompts Hibana to ask her to join Rainbow so that they can work together to find those responsible.

Vector Glare

The Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Vector Glare comic was released on July 15th, 2022. The comic serves as an in-universe promotional tie-in to the Operation Vector Glare expansion.

Plot
With the successful rescue of the Nighthaven employee known as the The Architect from a local militia, Rainbow got their hands of the schematics for Nighthaven's Headquarters in Singapore. Wolfguard squad leader Gustave "Doc" Kateb briefed the unit on the next steps of their investigation of Nighthaven's involvement of Masayuki Yahata's assassinstion. He stated that it would involve using the Architect to infiltrate Nighthaven's headquarters to gain access to QCR's private servers. As the mission required a "quiet approach", Taina "Caveira" Pereira and her squad were taking the lead. However, Ngoma "Sens" Mutombo expressed concern about the Architect's safety, stating that they were worried Caveira's squa would just use him as a disposable tool. Unable to deter them, Doc approved Sens request to accompany the Architect

Sens and the Architect later flew to the outskirts of Nighthaven's headquarters on a V-280 Valor and were met by Karina "Nøkk" Gaarddhøje who was disguised as a guard. Sens donned a guard disguise as well and the pair accompanied the Architect to facility. They were soon noticed by Håvard "Ace" Haugland and Jack "Pulse" Estrada, who questioned their arrival by saying that work on the next sector would only start in a month's time. The Architect managed to trick Ace by saying Kali ordered him to recalibrate materials for testing. He also mentioned a project proposed by Ace himself: a volleyball area for recreation. Convinced, the two allowed them to pass.

As they reached a security door to the servers, they discovered the Architect's biometrics had been revoked after he was captured by the militia. While discussing what to do next, they were noticed by a NIGHTHAVEN guard. Nøkk quickly disarmed and knocked out the man. As she was about to execute him, Sens intervened. They reiteriated that NIGHTHAVEN had not yet been confirmed as their enemiey, and that having the man wake up later would be a better outcome than possibly killing someone who might be "innocent". Nøkk agreed and then used the guard's biometrics to unlock the door. She then pointed out that the facility had many guards and that she could not spare them all. With Nøkk's infiltration complete, Sens and The Architect departed the complex and returned to the V-280 Valor. During the ride back, The Architect asked Sens if Nøkk would be alright. Sens stated that she was a "one-woman army" and that they were more worried about anyone that got in her way. Sens then pondered with The Architect if the mission was worth it or if they had made the situation worse. Meanwhile, Nøkk disposed of her disguise and readied her weapon as she went deeper into the facility to access the servers.

Brutal Swarm

The Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Brutal Swarm comic was released on November 2nd, 2022. The comic serves as an in-universe promotional tie-in to the Operation Brutal Swarm expansion.

Plot
Three hours after the incident at the Nighthaven server building, Kali gathered every operative in a meeting room and displayed a surveillance photo of the intruder. She demanded they find out who stole the data and why. As Anja "Osa" Janković tied to explain the data was useless as she had encrypted it herself, Kali interrupted by saying that they needed to assume the intruder was capable. She then tasked Charlie “Grim” Boon with interviewing each member individually to learn anything about the intruder. After questioning several operatives, he was informed by Osa that the infiltration could only have been done by Karina "Nøkk" Gaarddhøje. He then met with Kali and told her of his findings. Angered by Rainbow's actions, Kali told him that retrieving the stolen data was no longer part of the mission. Instead, she told him to find out Nøkk's identity and who she's protecting to blackmail her. She also made it clear that he was not to infiltrate any Rainbow facilities or kill any Rainbow personnel as she did not want to make an enemy out of them just yet.

Using the knife she left behind as his lead, Grim brought it to a weapon store and threatened the worker to find out who crafted the custom knife. This led him to a banker associated with a black market. After obtaining an address for the banker's contact, he went after a group of mercenaries and killed all but one of them. Grim then threatened to torture man for information. The next day, he traveled to an amusement park and ambushed a man who held classified information and promised to kill him unless he was given information on Nøkk. The man relented and told Grim everything about her.

The following day, Grim broke into Nøkk's secret home and waited for her to return inside from gardening. Nøkk noticed her house door open and investigated, finding Grim sitting at her dining room table. After offering him tea, Nøkk asked him what his name was and how he found her home. As he pulled out her knife to show her, Nøkk splashed his face with tea and attacked him. She took back the knife and lunged at him but was blocked with a butcher knife. Moments later, Nøkk subdued him to the floor and held the knife to his throat. Before she could kill him, Grim told her he was not there to kill her and pulled out an envelope. He revealed that it contained all of her redacted information, including her real identity and the ones she was trying to protect. Grim then proceeded to blackmail her with this information, threatening severe consequences if Rainbow crossed Nighthaven again.

Why was the guide offline, or might it go offline again in the near future? (Written while it's offline, 01:41 (GMT+1), 16th of April 2023). Currently, I have no clue where the issue comes from, and I have to wait for further responses from Steam Support. But my guesses are:

1. R6Guides because I used a few of their maps. I feared that already because they "claim" them as copyright, which I think is pretty silly since Ubisoft holds the copyrights to them, and a few words won't change that fact.
2. The guide's profile picture because it's from a YouTuber. I can't really imagine that he would claim it and ask Steam to remove it, but I wouldn't really mind.
3. Ubisoft because of posting their comics. However, that can't be true because many have done it before, and they are free to use on their website.
