Track Improvements (by JK)

Description
  • Improves visual appearance of track end ballast. (No more 'barcode' texture effect or unsupported overhang.)
(Works on any track that uses the game's standard buffers.)

  • Improves visual appearance of Standard (1850) track. (Reduces LOD 'popping' and moire effect at distance, which is most noticeable when the camera is moving.)

  • Adds Standard track without buffers. (Allows tracks to have no buffers or different buffers to be manually placed as an asset.)
(If the mod is removed these tracks will have 'white box' artefacts at the ends.)

  • Adds buffers as assets.
Default = Whatever appears on the default tracks (other mods will affect this).
Game's Original = Unmodded standard brown wood version.
Old British 1 = White and red painted old style British version.

The white and red painted old style British buffers are also available as a replacement for all standard buffers by using this mod : https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2953987155

I permit others to use, modify and republish my "jk_track-ballast-end" mesh, provided the files are renamed (to avoid conflicts) and credit is given.

Hey @JK ah ok I understand, thanks for the info. Wish the game gave us a little more control/options over what happens at end of track in those different situations. We're kinda stuck with a single model for everything (without resorting to manually placed assets). Ah well it doesn't look too bad in what I've been testing, certainly much better this way with your mod helping out than the vanilla appearance. Thanks again, cheers

@RadiKyle - From recollection and looking at it again a year on; I made a rectangular stone base (which is underground if the track isn't raised) for when it's at the end of a bridge or high embankment. The wider ballast helps make this less obvious and make it look better for multiple tracks ending side by side (otherwise there were gaps and shadows).

Hi, while working on some track mods and making sure they're compatible with this mod, I noticed the end-of-track ballast model (jk_bumper-none-ballast-end.mdl) kinda flares out wider than the track. (I sorta expected the opposite, that it would taper at the end.) Just curious about how that evolved, thanks

@Overlord - Mainly it replaces Standard tracks. But also affects other tracks whilst is active. If you remove it the Standard tracks etc go back to what they were.
The exception is the 'Standard track without buffers' which this mod adds. If this mod is removed those tracks will having a missing asset at each end, replaced with a white box (I can't hide that).
The other buffer assets won't show anything after the mod is removed (I hid the white boxes).

Technical question here. Does your mod replace vanilla tracks and textures? Or you still can use vaailla tracks and also your moded rails? If your mod would be removed am I going to lose all the rails or just the rails switch to vanilla model with its issues? :) Thanks.

@briansyston - The only change it makes to that mod's track is the track ends ballast being improved.

Will it change the bullhead track ?
