Guardians of Azeroth 2 is a total conversion mod for Crusader Kings 3 set in the Warcraft universe by Blizzard Entertainment which harnesses the latent potential of storytelling through exploring the societal and interpersonal dynamics of the world like never before. Relive the harrowing years of strife first told in the beloved strategy games and the early years of World of Warcraft as you chart a new saga for Azeroth and cement a legacy to last the ages.

Now is a time of iron, blood and fire. Here is the season of war. Guard your allies and keep your enemies closer. Destiny has arrived upon the shores of Azeroth. Will you seize it or be swept away?


Main Features (Non-exhaustive and continually iterated)
  • Coalitions and Crises: Coalitions are alliances similar to unions that are against a certain cause. Usually formed against 'end-game' factions like the invading Horde, the Scourge, and future factions like the Burning Legion. Unlike Unions, coalitions will dissolve when the said crisis is over.
  • Map: Detailed and historied map of Azeroth spanning the Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, Northrend, Pandaria, Kul Tiras, and Zandalar.
  • Bookmarks: Experience the historic events of the Orcish invasion from Draenor from the First War, the Scourging of Lordaeron during the Reign of Chaos, and the Ascension of the Lich King during Arthas’ fateful expedition to Northrend.
  • New Governments: Special Dark Government and Dark Authority mechanic for the Scourge, Legion and Old God rulers.
  • Military Unions: for the Alliance, Horde and custom factions.
  • Innovations, Buildings and Men-At-Arms: inspired by familiar technologies, skills, buildings and units from the various Warcraft games.
  • Culture and Faiths: Extensively researched cultures and faiths designed for flavor and uniqueness.
  • Handcrafted history and contextual storytelling: See the world realized through the unique perspective of all manner of rulers.
  • Legendary Artifacts: among which stand the likes of Frostmourne and the Doomhammer.
  • Art additions: include new clothing and armor,character models for humanoids and non-humanoids and DNA for iconic characters such as Thrall and Illidan.

Any idea when or if this will get updated to 1.19+? I am playing over Geforce Now and can't manually change which patch I'm playing on, so the game crashes often.

I have been playing this mod off and on, and let me tell you this is fun and a fresh take. I love the sandbox feel to it, a true Warcraft feel, Yes i understand that there are canon and 'canon' event that takes place but I love being able to be an 'adventuring party' and just roam around the map and seeing what chaos or mayham I can stir up.
one thing I wish I had known was that some elves can not breed with other elves. I spent way too long trying to combine high elves, blood elves, and night elves for the 'best elf dna'. but it was a learning experience and I loved it.

Thanks for your words, they encourage us. Imo, as someone who has played AGOT and LOTR, they are just approaching it in a canon way while EK2 and our modding projects are focused on a more sandboxish fun. I love how expansive the modding scene is for CK3, different mods cater to different people.

I'm truly blown away by how many cultures and races you've implemented and plan to implement. I doubt any mod is as ambitious. AGOT and LotRe are good, but they seem so tied to specific dates, while the war between the Alliance, Horde, and Legion is constantly relevant. Perhaps only Elder Kings 2 can boast such a level of development.

I just wanted to express my support and respect to you. I tried to get involved in modding Crusaders Kings 3 myself, but I've been unable to do so.

Of course, I wonder what your ambitions were before, but your decision to prioritize other aspects of the mod is reasonable. I especially like the faction system, with the Horde and the Lich King always able to return. It allows the descendants of heroes to save the world again in future centuries. I'm really looking forward to the Legion invasion. Perhaps in the future, the magic mechanics should be simplified, because the ability to play as a sorcerer without any sorcerous abilities is a bit frustrating.

And then, maybe in the future, someone will finally come along and refine the magic system.

This mod is incredibly cool. I know this question is closed, but the mod is magnificent without magic, even though it's an integral part of the world, for example, the magical features that imply it.

Personally, I adore the Witchraft mod in terms of its implementation of magic and balance. Everything there is quite simple and complex at the same time. In fact, Witchraft lacked a cool culture, government types, and religion for demons and mages. This one, on the contrary, has all of that, but no magic.

Like, I am genuinely sorry to disappoint you, but we just can't finish magic unless old devs decide to return and finish what they started.

Even the new fellows who joined the team and tried finishing the magic stuff just joined for one month and left the next.
