King's Gambit

King's Gambit is a novelty gas first shown in the Alchemical Symposium, intended to show that the higher metals can be recovered from gas, and thus, in theory, from the atmosphere itself--given large enough quantities, of course, to collect such undiscovered trace gases.

This was a demonstration of a principle rather than a promotion of a specific substance--King's Gambit was synthesized for its memorable structure and for the double meaning of its name. The machinery to pull noble metals out of thin air would have a sharp cost, but a high reward. Thus, the alchemist was genuinely slighted that King's Gambit found an actual use; its springy bond network and higher metals make it a very temperature-stable surfactant. This is still a niche application because it is difficult to recover after use, but I am told that the inventor is yet commissioned to produce it regularly.
