Blockstorm map editor is a powerful tool you can use to create your own maps! It's very easy to use, and you can follow the guide below to learn everything you have to know about it to create great maps.

Navigation controls
The default navigation controls for the Editors are:

To rotate the camera, you should move the mouse pointer while pressing the middle mouse button. Alternatively, you can use the arrow keys
W to move forward
S to move backward
A to move left
D to move right
Q to move upward
Z to move downward
You should hold down left shift to move faster
How to get started
This is the first panel you will meet in map editor.


    Here you can choose the basic' parameters for your basic map (if you want a base) :
  • The base scenario.
    You can choose an initial style to auto-generate a base map on which you will build up your own.
    You can choose between: Flat, Island, Desert and Snowy Mountain, each type is different from the others.
  • The map width. You can set the map width from this parameter.
  • The map height. You can set the map height from this parameter.
As we said, you can choose to follow this method if you want to auto-generate a base map before building up your own, if you want you can choose "Cancel" and start your map from scratch.
The menu panel

This is the main panel of the editor. Here you can find some useful tools:
  1. Create new map: by clicking this icon you will open the "create map" panel where you will able to set new parameters for a new map.
    Be sure to save your work before creating another map, because the editor will not save automatically!
  2. Load saved map: from here you can load built-in, saved and downloaded maps. [Downloaded maps are automatically added to your library when you play in a server which use a map that you don't own.]
  3. Save current map: save the map you are working on. Use this very often.
  4. Undo: delete last action. If you made a mistake, this is the best way to repair it. Just click it and your last action will be deleted.
  5. Redo: redo last action. If you used undo too many times, you can use redo to get back the work you deleted with the undo function.
  6. Environment settings: From here you can choose various environment settings for the map. Click on the link for more info.
  7. Game Mode Info : This panel can be used to select which modes are allowed in this map. Click on the link for more info.
  8. Map Info : General information for your map. Click on the link for more info.

The tools panel
This is the side panel of the editor. Here you can find the main tools for editing:
  1. Select tool: Allows you to select part of your creations. [Click on the link for more info.]
  2. Cube tool: This is the tool you will use more often. The cube tools allows you to place cube on your map to create simple or complex constructions. [Click on the link for more info.]
  3. Brush tool: The brush tool can be used to make big shapes like mountains, hills... [Click on the link for more info.]
  4. Delete: This is similar to the select tool but it's used to delet part of your creations. [Click on the link for more info.]
  5. Paint: Use this if you want to change textures on cubes. [Click on the link for more info.]
  6. Smooth: This tool helps you to smooth your surfaces. [Click on the link for more info.]
  7. Fill : If you want to change textures on a big area, use this tool to lighten your work.

Fast prefabs

"Prefabs" windows includes some important elements for the gameplay.

GENERAL
- Spawn Point
- Blue Base (CTF)
- Red Base (CTF)
- Target Area (Assault)
- Trap Door

PREFABS
Contain pre-made environmental items

LIGHTS
- SpotLight
- Torchlight

EXPLOSIVES
- Barrel

NPCS
- Slim Turrets
Boundaries
Boundaries are areas where players can walk inside.
If you don't create boundaries players can walk everywhere.

  1. Click on the "Environment" icon in the top of the editor
  2. From the "Environment" windows click on "Edit boundaries"
    (options appear on the right of the editor)
  3. Click on " + " button to add a boundary and click on "edit" button to modify it
  4. Press "OK" to confirm
  5. Click on " - " to remove a boundary. Beware, the action can't be undone.
Share
Steam Workshop
Click on the "Share" button (it's located near the "Save" button).

Host a match
Maps could be shared between players by just hosting a match using that map.
Players who join the match will automatically receive you map and could immediately participate to the game;
the asset will be stored in the downloads folder (for Windows Vista and above, it's located in: C:\Users\...\AppData\LocalLow\IndieGala\Blockstorm\downloads)

Download map files
You could also share your custom maps directly loading the assets in the folder:
C:\Users\...\AppData\LocalLow\IndieGala\Blockstorm\save

Assets can be safely downloaded by other players despite the version of the game.
Even when another player modify your map, you will still be credited in the information panel as the original creator.

How do you configure stuff that's already put down?
