Reddit for Chirpy [Alpha] (2023 REBUILD)

This is yet another resurrection of the long-dead original mod as well as the also-dead 2nd version. Please unsub from both of these before testing this one!

Many thanks and credit to the OP for their hard work on this mod. I've updated the mod to be compliant with Reddit's newly required OAuth2, so API calls are no longer blocked.

What this mod does

Replaces** the repetitive and useless whining of your citizens with a live stream of consciousness from the hiveminds of the subreddits of your choosing! The mod starts you off with these subreddits by default, but it's customizable:

/r/ShowerThoughts/rising
/r/CrazyIdeas/new
/r/ChirpIt/new
/r/AskReddit/rising
/r/CitiesSkylines/rising
/r/News/rising
/r/DoesAnybodyElse/rising

There is a dedicated subreddit to users of this mod: http://reddit.com/r/ChirpIt/. You can chirp to your citizens by posting here, and most other users of Reddit4Chirpy will see it.

Under Development

This mod is a WIP, so there may be frequent updates. Source code is managed by this Github repo[github.com]. Be warned that this is a hasty patchwork of the original mod and tons of wet code, I plan to refactor this to best practices as I familiarize myself with the C:S codebase. This is also my first mod, so I appreciate any feedback or detailed reports on anything that's broken.

KNOWN ISSUES:
- **Filtering useless chirps is not super effective, use Filter All chirps instead.

COMPATIBILITY:
- Unknown. Please help me test which mods are incompatible.

Hi @jalengg, thank you for this mod !
I've got an issue : my save has become unplayable when unsubscribing the mod, and works fine when sub it again. I've tried the safe mode from Loading screen mod but nothing works. What could I do to solve this issue ? I'm playing on a mac OS, if that helps. Thank you in advance for your help !

The limit for the free tier is 100 queries/min amongst all users, which we are well under at the moment with just 205 subscribers. If some day this mod becomes popular enough that it's a problem, I'll update the mod to limit the frequency of chirps or use a cache.

This mod is the only reason I exist, if this mod ever becomes obsolete or stops working I will literally just stop existing.
To all new players looking for mods to install:
Don't get TM:PE
Don't get IMT
Don't get anythings else
Get this.

@tangjaylen I installed C:S on a mac and am working on fixing the "Edit Subreddit List" button. In the meantime, the config file should be at "~/Library/Application Support/Colossal Order/Cities_Skylines/ModConfig/chirpit-subreddits.txt" which you can edit manually as a temporary workaround.

As for your other bug, I'm having trouble reproducing it. It would be a big help if any Mac users whose game is crashing upon loading a chirper post were to share with me the log file, found at "~/Library/Logs/Unity/Player.log"

MacOS user here. In addition to my previous problem, C:S keeps crashing whenever a Reddit post loads in Chirper.

Thanks for the report, @tangjaylen. Which OS are you using? In the meantime, you can edit the subreddit list manually. On windows, it’s at C:/Users/<YOUR_USER>/AppData/Local/Colossal Order/Cities_Skylines/ModConfig/chirpit-subreddits.txt

Support for Mac OS is coming soon for this mod, but if you’re a windows user, let me know if this workaround works for you while I look into the button not working.

The "Edit Subreddit List" button is unclickable. I wanted to add r/TwoSentenceHorror and r/wordington to my subreddit list...
