Kikuchi River - Japan | Vanilla & Mass Transit

While searching Google Earth for an area on which I could build my own Japanese city, I found this relatively rural river valley along the Kikuchi River. It has everything you could want for a Cities: Skylines city: a winding river, mountains, coastline, and even a Shinkansen line!

I used a 1:1 height map centered west of Kumamoto and south of Tamana as the base for the map. I edited the coastline to be less developed, and so that you guys could be more creative with it.


The map can be played vanilla with only the Mass Transit DLC. However, you will need to subscribe to the Network Anarchy mod in order to (1) connect to the "shinkansen" network I made and (2) gain absolute control over editing the main highways. I also recommend subscribing to Node Controller and Intersection Marking Tool for the highways to look as good as possible.


I am using settings from Gaseous Stranger's wonderful YouTube video. I have only softened the effect of fog and altered the cubemap, for which I am using the Kloofendal cubemap included in this pack instead of that which the video suggests.


I am using a custom map theme created with Theme Mixer 2. It uses all the textures from Ronyx69's Seychelles Theme except for the sand texture, which is from comcom ED75's Japan Theme

3/3/2023: FIXED TRAFFIC ISSUES. It has become clear that traffic quickly becomes an issue on the map. I have changed the roads to better handle traffic in this update by slightly widening the highways and turning the outside connections into 2 lane highway roads. Thank you rbrown7 for notifying me.
