Kings and Conquerors - Temujin

Description
IN MEMORIAM

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN.

Despite their reputation for wreaking death and destruction among humans, the Mongols harboured a deep respect for both their natural environment and the animals in their lives, particularly dogs and horses, which still remain greatly cherished up to the present day. Even Genghis Khan's legal code, the Yassa, included rules protecting animal welfare, though primarily with humans as the ultimate beneficiaries of such rules.

INTRO

It's the year 1170 AD, and somewhere in the harsh badlands of northern Asia, a baby has been born by the banks of the Onon River.

Meanwhile, the babe's father, a nomadic chieftain named Yesügei, wrangles with the brutal reality of life on the steppes: constant struggles for survival against rival tribes and powerful empires like the Jin and Qara Khitai are slowly wearing down his people, the Mongols; annihilation could well be their lot unless this is stopped. As Yesügei looks down on his newborn son, Temüjin, his mind still wrangles with one question: if this cycle of violence between the Mongol tribes can be broken, who will do it? and what shall it cost him and his people?

Little does he know that little Temüjin, the fourth of his line, has the answers. But also that he may grow up to become the greatest conqueror the world will ever know. Perhaps.

LIST OF EVENTS COVERED BY THIS MOD
  • Mongol unification and conquests of Northern Asia - Qara Khitai, Jurchen Dajin, Minyak Xixia and Khwarazamshah are all in the firing line.
  • Jurchen Dajin wars of aggression against Korea and China
  • The birth of firearms: Jin, Xixia, the Mongols and Song are proponents of firearms, with Song having a slight edge by being able to recruit grenade infantry.
  • The apogee of mediaeval Islam (and its subsequent decline).
  • Guelph and Ghibelline rivalry in Italy
  • Adriatic Wars between Hungary and Venice
  • Russo-Polovetsian Wars
  • 3rd, 4th and 5th Crusades
  • Rise of Poland, Bohemia, and Hoysala
  • Korean civil wars.

FEATURES

Temujin may well follow the rulesets of Kings & Conquerors, but deep down it is however an experience set in the Middle Ages. Thus while it may not seem very different compared to other mediaeval era mods out there, what makes it stand out is its more specific and granular scope - essentially a look at Asia and Eastern Europe at the beginning of the 12th century CE. This is a world fleshed out by large number of custom (non-vanilla) units, with many new models and animations.

The Middle Ages from a non-Western viewpoint
While some factions - eg Germans, Mongols, Russians and possibly Venexia and Bulgaria and Poland are rather well known (and have been covered by the Rise of Kings series) others are seeing light for the first time as RoN civs - these often being the victims of Mongol expansion. Most notable is this mod's focus not just on northern Asia - but southern Asia as well, represented by five civs - the Khmers, Dai Viet, Hindustan, Hoysala and Rajputana.

Visit the grandeur of the crown jewel of Islam, the Persian kingdom of Khwarazamshah; defend the lands of Xixia with the fierce tenacity of the Minyak people; fight for God with the Crusader States; learn about the precursors of the Mongols - the Polovtsy, the Jurchens and the Qara Khitai - or watch them all fall and burn as history repeats itself.

Some Old Hands and Some New Friends
Priests, Shamans, Slaves and Assassins make a comeback in Temujin, alongside things like i-War ... along with some new weapons. While units like Battering Rams and Siege Towers may be standard fare, perhaps more uncommon would be gunpowder units, like the ones summoned by the three great civs of North Asia - Dajin, Nansong and Xixia.

Upgrade-dependent teching up
As with all instalments of the Kings & Conquerors mod family, Reforms and Policies continue to make a comeback. While Reforms are the "Ages" of the Kings & Conquerors family of mods, Policies in Temüjin however unlock different units and structures, especially moreso if you play as the Latin Christian civs of this mod.

Units, Mercenaries & your Economy
The old system of Wealth-dependent units - mercenaries - make a comeback, and that means outlays of Wealth to maintain your military edge.

PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE GETTING CRASHES OF ANY KIND

While we take pains to ensure a smooth player experience, we nevertherless advise players to take note of all the following data whenever they start a new game:
  • Factions chosen
  • Map size
  • Presence of snow/water
  • (if a crash occurs) what you were doing and what age you were in when it happened.
Sharing a .rcx or .svx file is also highly recommended as it will allow us a greater chance of pinpointing your issue.
These are issues that are being looked at and which should be corrected in future.
For further information, please consult our wiki FAQ page[kc4-temujin.webnode.page].

In the meantime we advise strongly against the use of random players. For best results, you should take down notes on which games had snow or navigable ocean, and what factions were used. Why not use a virtual dice thrower to select the factions for you instead?

This is a single-age mod. If you want to "age up", you must like in the Hellenistic Era or Hammurabi use the Reforms techs from the Conclave/University.
Reforms are necessary if you are going for wonder rushing or booming, or if you are playing as the Mongols.

Anyone not able to load the mod? Or am i doing something wrong?

@Fyrebrand18:
Thank you for your reply.
Some changes have been made to this mod. Please try it again but remember,
- Always use Classical Age, and no other Age to begin the game.
This also applies for all chapter mods in Kings & Conquerors.
- We did not find any issue with buildings. Some upgrades (NOT buildings) are greyed out and can't be researched unless you have reached Tier 3 Construction, Agronomics or Leadership (you need a Sawmill, Granary and Fort to do this)
- Consult our wiki in case of problems.
If you find anything else, let us know.

So I'm encountering a weird bug. A lot of the buildings have technologies locked despite their prerequisites already researched or have no prereqs at all. Some buildings like the mansion and the Meeting House have no techs at all.

@Cyrus: Yes, visit the Patreon site to download the plugin version for it. Will need to wait until it appears on Moddb but that is mostly just a technicality.
