Vampire Survivors Character Spotlight: Lama

a overview of Lama with some observations and tips to help play her

The Stats

Of all the Ladonnas', Lama is, overall, the most powerful of them. She starts with some extra HP, +10, and 10% in three stats: Might, MoveSpeed, and Curse. she'll gain 5% more in Might, MoveSpeed, and Curse every 10 levels she gains until she hits 30% in all three at Level 40. this makes Lama one of the most stated characters in the game outside of characters like Pugnala and Giovanna, who gain a bonus 1% to a stat every time they level. Lama's Might and MoveSpeed make her a lighting tank waiting to happen and her Curse makes her ideal for Curse and Level runs

The Weapon

Lama's weapon of choice is the Axe. It's a bit of a odd weapon, but packs quite the punch. Axe fires off in a arc. the amount, 3 at Level 8, it gains as it's leveled increases the arc per Axe fired. the 1st one almost goes straight up and down. but the extra Axes gain a greater arc per Axe tossed. it also gains a decent amount of damage, 60 base when fully leveled, and also gains Pierce as well, +4 to be precise. All of those factors combine makes the Axe a powerhouse of a weapon, taking chunks out of large groups when aimed correctly. Axe also crits without having to be evolved, further enhancing its' damage.
Evolved, Axe becomes the Death Spiral with the Candelabrador. It turns into a slow firing scythe, loses the arcing and some damage, 20 to base ouch, but makes up for it with RIDICULOUSLY high Pierce and a hefty bonus to Amount, bringing it up to 9 fired at once from Lama. The loss of damage doesn't slow Death Spiral down at all. And it's slow speed actually helps it. The longer the scythes stay on the screen, the more enemies it passes through. Follow the scythe often becomes a viable option for getting around on the chosen stage.

Why and why not (pros and cons)

Why Lama?
Lama is a powerhouse of a character. with her leveling up and gaining Might and MoveSpeed then using Wings and Spinach, she hits 90 in both easily. combine that with the Axe and watch Lama chop her way though hoards of enemies while the arcs help her to evade taking damage due to positioning to utilize the arcing of the axes to take advantage of its' power and piercing.
Why not Lama?
Curse. Curse is great for doing leveling runs. but Lama being one of the earlier characters to get, a new player won't be used to what Curse does to a run. Stages with waves of rapid fire groups of enemies rushing in, like the Dairy Plant, stand a good chance of causing massive damage while the slower enemies come in to pick her off. Lama also has very little coverage behind and under her, making evading from those directions mandatory so she can get set up to utilize the arc of the Axe.

How to get

Lama is unlocked by getting 10% Curse and surviving 20 minutes with it. There's lots of ways to get the 10%. but the easiest way is to get the 1st level of the Curse power-up so you can start a run with 10% right off the bat. then she can be added for 500 gold before scaling

Tips and builds

Tips
practice positioning with Lama. making sure Lama is in the best place will let you take full advantage of the Axe's firing pattern and keep Lama safe while you fill out your build of choice. getting Wings and Spinach improves her chances as Axe is a Might weapon that benefits from MoveSpeed nicely since she can get into advantageous positions quickly. Area helps greatly as well. Axe is already a larger weapon. so Candelabrador just makes it even bigger. which makes Death Spiral even bigger and allows for better enemy clearing with it

Weapons: Bone, Knife, Phiera Der Tuphello, Eight The Sparrow, Celestial Dusting
Passives: Attractorb, Bracer, Candelabrador, Spinach, Torrona's Box, Wings
'I go where I please' build let's Lama go where she wants on a stage quickly while making sure her way has at least two layers of weapons clearing a path for her. leveling and evolving the Axe is highly recommended so Death Spiral is providing the foundation for all the other weapons so Lama will have the guns covering her diagonally, Thousand Edge for forward movement, Celestial Dusting to cover behind her as well as provide self healing. and Bone to to get enemies that manage to worm their way through Lama's weapon coverage and gaps in the weapons firing patterns.

Might Of Family build
Weapons: Fire Wand, Lightning Ring, Magic Wand, Whip, Vento Sacro, one other weapon for fun like Magic Wand or Cherry Bomb after evolving the whips
Passives: Candelabrador, Duplicator, Endless Tome, Hollow Heart, Spinach, Wings
the Might Of Family build has Lama using the weapons from all the Ladonna's as her main damage dealers while Magic Wand and the whips provide suppressive weapons damage till fully evolved. when evolved completely, Lama lays waste in all directions while Fuwalafuwaloo gives self healing and even more crit as well as AOE due to the crit explosions and extra coverage from the ring of slashes around Lama. as well as Tome and Dupe giving bonus cooldown and extra amount, making the build crank out more damage even faster, Lama becoming a buzzsaw with almost full screen coverage

In conclusion

Lama is a joy to play most the time. she's one of the 1st characters to have a large amount of stats they can get through leveling, making her a decent choice for those wanting a leg up while doing a run. and her having Curse lead people to find out Curse is good for leveling builds, since it let her become a lead leveling run pick over Imelda. other characters may outpace her in stats now. but she always a decent pick for leveling or kill runs. and to this day, Lama's the only character I beat a inverse run with while having 0 eggs on her. and it was a fun, if a little hectic, run.
give Lama a try. she's worth the time to get good with
