[2022.1] Sounds Of War

Description
[WIP]

Sounds of War is a Sound Mod that focuses mainly on explosions and weaponry sounds using modified audio assets from Arma's spectacular JSRS mod by the amazing LordJarhead.
It also aims to modify some other key sounds to increase immersion and add a more realistic/dramatic feel to the game.

* New game NOT required & safe to remove *

COMPATIBILITY

/!\ - Will conflict with HWA Realistic Sounds and Dark SFX and any other sound mod that changes the same sounds, Radio and Music mod are SAFE to use.

/!\ - This mod does not touch any data sheets to ensure maximum compatibility with other mods.

  • All Explosions ( exept Depth Charges, i can't change them as of yet. )
  • Hull Creaks/Crush
  • Hull Pressure Damage
  • Hull Break ( When a ship breaks in half )
  • Decoy Launch & Bubbler
  • Sonar Ping
  • Conning Tower Cutting Through Water
  • Diesel Exhaust
  • Aircraft Engines for both Bombers & Fighters
  • Alarms
  • Fire
  • Removes the crew voice spam when drowning


There is still some sounds i want to change but the game doesn't really let you hear them anyway like Impacts, wizz or shell splash. ( seems to be an issue with volume distribution over distances ), some others can't be modified either because they are hardcoded or because i am not competent enough ( probably the later ), such sounds are Depth Charges, Storms and the Weather, Footsteps, Periscope and many more.

FUTURE PLAN

Future plans are to add more sound variants for a given sound trigger, change the distance at wich a particular sound can be heard, add more distance layers and dynamic speed of sound delay.

CHANGELOG

1.14:
- Added new Aircraft Engine sounds for both Bombers & Fighters.
- Tweaked 88 again.
- Added new Fire sound.
- Tweaked Waterfall effect for Torpedo Explosion.

1.15:
- Added Transport Alert Horn along with tweaked Alarm Bell.
- Added new Decoy Launch & Bubbler sound.
- Added new Sonar Ping sound.
- Added new Exterior Diesel Exhaust sound.
- Added new Hull Break sound.
- Added new Hull Pressure Damage sound.

1.15i:
- Decreased Aircraft Engine by 2dB.
- Tweaked Diesel Exhaust sound.
- Tweaked Freighters Alarm Horns to be a bit shorter.
- Tweaked Hull Break sound.
- Removed the annoying voice spam of the crew when drowning.

1.15j:
- Lowered gain and peakyness for the 88.
- Lowered gain and peakyness for the Torpedo Explosion.
- Cleaner loop for the Diesel Exhaust and with lowered bass.

/!\ KNOWN ISSUES /!\

- Some sounds are made quite loud and with boosted bass, if your personnal audio settings are already boosting the audio ranges ( the bass in particular ) it can sound too loud and unbalanced, i am sure we can find common ground for those who have audio issues, i just need to know wich sounds might need tweaking.

- The Flak 30 ( when the AI is shooting it ) can sound kinda weird ( overlaps ) when two or more of them are shooting at the same time, this occur because the game handles that sound in a very specific way and i can't do much to improve it, it does it with vanilla sound aswell.

@Swimmy, thank you for the feedback =) could you tell me wich sounds are too bassy ? Lots of them are indeed bass boosted, so if your personal audio settings are boosting them already it can be too much, this is something i can fix, i just need to know wich sounds needs tweaking because they all sound great using my settings.

I cant run this mod with my studio headphones, the bass is so boosted compared to everything else its making them clip constantly. Guessing its a 5-50hz issue, how much of a dB boost is it? Love the sounds other than that.

@LoperBrasil, yes i have tried but the sound won't change, i have made an amazing sound for it, hopefully the release will make modding sounds easier.

It's a shame there's no change in the periscope's audio, it's ridiculous.

@Zero, thank you for your feedback, it might be my fault because i just love bass lol the sounds are created and balanced for Dolby Atmos and while the assets sounds great using my headset and personal audio settings, i can totally understand that it might be off balance for other users, can you name the sounds that you find too loud and off balance ?

The volune balance is not right relative to other ingame sounds. Way too loud, but fixable.However, the sound assets are way to overamplifed, escpelcially in the low frequencies. But that might be the fault of the sound assets (JSRS). That is why dont like it in Arma 3

Wow new sonar ping sounds great, a bit loud tho, even with medium volume
