How I use/see PC-only stuff w/ my Quest 2!
Von Rain
Hi, I'm Rain. In this guide, I'll teach you how to see and use PC-exclusive avatars and worlds in VRChat with a Quest 2 instead of using a much more expensive headset. I had to watch MANY different types of tutorial videos and use my own inferences to come up with these results, so I have compressed it down to an easy-to-follow format for you. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me!

Requirements:
~ your Oculus Quest 2
~ a computer or laptop that can run VRChat
~ an extra router connected to your computer
~ buy the Virtual Desktop app on the Oculus store (I used a discount code at the time that brought it from $20 to $13). You will NOT need to use AirLink or a link cable when you have this app.

Requirements & important notes
These are the things you are going to need before we get started on the tutorial.

Requirements
  • your Oculus Quest 2
  • a computer or laptop that can run VRChat
  • an extra router connected to your computer
  • buy the Virtual Desktop app on the Oculus store (I used a discount code at the time that brought it from $20 to $13). You will NOT need to use AirLink or a link cable when you have this app

Important Notes
  • I've found that the Virtual Desktop app on the Quest 2 does not load up when you already have Steam or the Virtual Desktop app opened on your computer. You will want to open these AFTER starting the app in your Quest 2 every time you use Virtual Desktop
  • Due to the reason above, I would recommend you take pictures of some of my tutorial while you set up Virtual Desktop. You don't have to, but it seems easier to me than closing steam and reopening it a few times and having to find my tutorial again. Up to you.
Why Virtual Desktop? / Buying & downloading Virtual Desktop
Why?
  • I have attempted to play a few Steam games (including VRChat and other games) using the AirLink and the Link cable, but this is by far the best option. I find the default interface to be laggy and of bad quality. I would not recommend playing without Virtual Desktop.
  • Virtual Desktop allows you to use and see your computer desktop completely smoothly and lag-free. I also enjoy watching Youtube videos this way.

Purchasing & Downloading
  • I know that it's $20, but trust me- it'll be worth it. I also had found a discount code at the time of purchasing that brought it down to I believe $13. It may still be available.
  • You can purchase it on the Oculus store in your VR headset, on the Oculus app on your phone/desktop, or the store page website on your computer. As long as it is obviously bought with your associated account, you should be fine.
  • After you've bought it, put on your headset and download the already-purchased Virtual Desktop app.
  • Next, you'll want to download the Virtual Desktop app to your computer. Sign into your Oculus account on your computer and download and setup the app.
Optimizing your computer graphics
  • Firstly, you want to always check that your graphics drivers are staying updated
  • Disable V-Sync in your Xbox Game bar by pressing Windows Key + G (if you don't have this, disable V-sync using a different method). I've found that this prevents screen tearing and bad freezing while playing
Connecting your extra router
Doing this will turn the game from being pretty much unplayable (due to how laggy it is) on a Quest 2 to actually working. Crucial step.

Steps
  • Have your ethernet cable and router connected directly to your computer or laptop
  • Make sure your router is working and activated (maybe wait a couple minutes)
  • Confirm in your Virtual Desktop app that the router has raised the connection quality (I believe there is a warning near the top of the screen if you do not have a router connected)
Optimizing Virtual Desktop (through the desktop version of the app)

I recommend using a small part of this video to help you understand what settings you should use. Skip to "The 6 Simple Steps" section and the first 10 seconds of that section tells you what simple changes you should make.
Optimizing Virtual Desktop (through your Quest)

I'd highly recommend using this video to understand all of the settings you will need to change according to your needs in Virtual Desktop.

  • To get to this menu in the first place, you'll want to be connected to your computer through Virtual Desktop. Just make sure you're able to see your actual desktop through your headset and then we can go from there.
  • Next, press one of the buttons on your left controller (my apologies, I believe it is the Y button but check to make sure). When you press the button, a menu should slide in from the right side and it should be overlaying your desktop screen.

If you'd like to hear a second opinion/recommendation for these settings (they should be pretty similar if not the same), I recommend watching the "6 Simple Steps" part of this second video and skipping to the 3:40 mark.

Confirming that your new setup works
Alright, so this section simply tells you how to confirm VRChat will now run. The way in which you open this is how you will open it every time you want to play VRChat.

  • Exit Steam and the desktop version of the Virtual Desktop app
  • Turn on your Quest 2 and open the Virtual Desktop app
  • Once you see the first menu screen, remove your headset and open the desktop version of the app.
  • Put your headset back on and scroll up to reload the page. You should see your computer on the list and there should be NO warning about a router when you see this. Press your computer and wait for it to load
  • Now you're in your desktop! Simply open Steam through the Quest 2 and open VRChat from there.
  • Once you are in the game, if you followed all of my steps correctly, you shouldn't be experiencing issues.
Optimizing your VRChat Settings
This is a lot more important than you'd think. Once you've confirmed VRChat can actually run through your new setup, we can change the privacy settings for a much more lag-free experience.

Instructions
  • Go to your safety settings
  • For visitor settings, enable only their voice
  • For new user settings, enable only their voice (you can enable their avatars too but there will likely be lag in public rooms)
  • For user settings, enable only their voice and avatar
  • For known user settings, enable only their voice and avatar
  • For trusted user settings, enable only their voice and avatar
  • For friends, enable everything

Important Notes
  • If you have disabled avatars for New Users and you'd like to see an individual person's avatar without friending them yet, you can open your mini menu and then hover over them with your other controller and click on them to view their profile. Click the eye icon instead of the shield icon.
(Opt.) Improving your Quest 2 Graphics
This is an optional step. This would increase your Quest 2 graphics in general without using SideQuest.

Instructions
  • Using either the Meta Quest app on your phone or the Oculus app on your computer should work.
  • While your headset is considered online, go to headset settings and navigate your way through which graphics settings you want.
  • If this option is available in the app, prioritize quality or performance over your battery life. You can always keep it charged frequently or buy a battery charge extender for your headset
Confirming your success / End of the tutorial. <3
To Confirm Your Success
  • Try to visit a PC-exclusive world or try on a PC-exclusive avatar.
  • To confirm that your safety and performance settings are to your liking, visit a public world and quickly check.

And that's it! You've reached the end of the tutorial! Thank you for reading and I hope I was able to make this a much easier and faster experience for you <3

@Viaspiderz apologies for the slow response, life has been busy.

I'm going to assume you're talking about the Virtual Desktop app. Which library are you referring to? You should be able to go to vrdesktop.net and download the streamer app for your PC. Then you should be good to go to the next steps

I was able to get it on the store for the headset itself but for some reason it doesn't show up at all on both the quest pc app and my library on pc. is there something I'm doing wrong?
