Squad Lead Staging Phase Guide
By FlocKz and 1 collaborators
This is a guide for new and perhaps even some more experienced Squad Leaders to use during the preparation phase of a Random Advance And Secure (RAAS) Game. This guide can be used for other game as it has points that are transitional between different modes but has more depth on the (RAAS) GameMode.

Step 1 - Squad Lanes:
The Prep Phase for me starts at the leaderboard screen from the previous game, I hold TAB and in the top right you can see the next layer.

As shown in the image in the image above, you can see the next layer directly in the top right.

I then take this information and fill it into Squad Lanes[squadlanes.com]. You simply fill in the information we found in the earlier Screenshot and place in SquadLanes. So The map is Narva, and it's RAAS V4 as shown below

To know whether your on team 1 or team 2 you need to know what side you were on the previous game. The left side is team 1 and the right is team 2 and every game it switches. Therefore if I was on Team 1 last game I know I'm on team 2 the next game.

This is Mainly for [RAAS] as Squad Lanes gives you the infomation you need to make a educated guess on where the point will go to, meaning you can make good FOB Placements and insure your not fighting Air for the majority of the game.

All of this should be figured out before we have even loaded in to give you a good start to the round.
Step 2 - Making A Squad
Once loaded into the round you need to make a squad as fast as possible. No hesitation. If you dilly dally around because your not sure if you want to do it your making your job harder. You only get 2 minuets of prep time and your going to need as much as you can get, especially if your new.

So make your squad Immediately, give it a title along the lines of Infantry, MIC ENG and / or the cool kids ;) The Reason for this is so that people know what there getting into before they join. If you make a mortar squad call it "MORTARS" as then when people join they don't immediately leave because they don't want to do a particular thing. And just to Note, always lock the squad at first, as to save room for friends and to give yourself some quiet for a second to think. If you follow this Guide most likely you will be the first to spawn in and therefore have first picks on the logistics vehicles.

Spawn in and grab a logistics vehicle [DO THIS BEFORE INVITING ANYONE] If you need to invite friends do it after you have secured a vehicle for yourself and your squad. There is nothing worse than having to piggy back around with another squad because you didn't manage to grab a vehicle.

You can then invite people and unlock your squad, get someone else to drive for you and make sure to switch to the scoped SL Kit from a ammo crate as since you locked your squad at the beginning you will not have been able to select it from the start. But make sure you have a member in the driving position when doing this to insure the vehicle doesn't get robbed.

Onto the next step !
Step 3 - Forming a Plan
Once you have your vehicle the first thing you should be doing is looking back at the previously referenced Squad lanes and clicking the first point on the map which which will then show us possible Areas for the 3rd or 4th objective. This allows me to make a educated guess on where I'm going to get my Radio down whilst the back cap is happening (For those who are unaware, "back cap" is a term for the capturing of the first and second objective)

once I've done this I communicate what my plan is in command chat and establish who is doing the back capping, if no one takes on back capping then do it yourself and ask another squad to place a FOB down at your previous point of interest as for the most part unless your lucky other Squad Leads can't be asked to defend or back cap. So if there not doing it, you will.

Make sure to place a FOB creation mark and a move mark in this time, as well as this put FOB creation markers for other teams to go to as they may not have a clue since there probably not using Squad Lanes, so help them out.

For those unsure of how to Place FOB creation marks and Move markers on the map simply right click on the map and select the wanted option as show below -

You can't trust people in pubs so you need to assume there useless. If they know what there doing, brilliant, but prepare for them to not be communicating, always be willing to back cap and hold defence. Even if your teams doing nothing make sure you can say I couldn't have done more.
Step 4 - Build Amounts
Take a brief moment to change the amount of build I'm carrying and adjust in accordingly . This is essential. Here are the Ammo : build suggestions.

Ratio is Ammo : Build

- Large Map: 1200 : 1800
1800 : 1200

- Medium Map : 1200 : 1800
1800 : 1200

- Small Map : 1800 : 1200

This is of course your own Preference and it is situational but these are some suggestions for those unsure.

If helicopters are available make sure to go with 1200 A : 1800 B. This is because your job is to get HABs setup, not to supply them. I've had people question me on this before but i can assure you a experienced, smart SL uses this.
Step 5 - Fire-teams & Kits
At this point of the Prep phase I am now deciding what kits I want. If someone is a marksman I tend to ask them to change to a different kit unless there 1stRB or i know them and I know they know what there doing. Make sure you don't underestimate the use of rifleman to, we all need them, especially HATs n LATS, and we always need to resupply our Rallys.

Now start grouping your Fire-teams. I keep Lats, Hats and rifleman together as there co-dependant. If I have 2 medics make sure to spread them out between the two as to make sure both fire-teams have one. I try to keep MGs and AR together as these combined can be deadly for suppression.

And make sure your picking people who are talkative and confident to lead them, these people make your life a lot easier, especially if your new.

You should have everyone in a fire team to, so it can be Passed around when needed, look below for reference:

Step 6 - The Final Countdown
We're at the last few seconds of the Prep Phase now, I tend to take this time to look at my map and squad lanes again to familiarise myself with what's going on. I take this time to myself to think about what I'm going to ask my squad to do once we've arrived and formulate a plan.

Once the Prep phase has ended i begin telling my squad my plan, what I want each fire-team to do once we get there and why we are doing it as well as finalising plans with Command.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's you first 2 minutes of the game, Enjoy it because it only gets worse from then on 😄

One more side note. If things aren't going your way don't start moaning at your squad blaming people or going of on one in command chat, this only makes things worse, reassure your squad that even if the rest of the team isn't communicating or helping in anyway that there doing a good job considering the situation. Trust me, this helps and you will feel better for it.

My knowledge of Ukraine is lacking so I would struggle to adapt this guide to Ukraine's situation. Brexit means exit
