Regency & Ruler Training

Description
Regency & Ruler Training

With Paradox's announcement today of their own Regency system, this mod will have one final update to add a Game Rule to turn the "bad vassal" option off. After that, this mod will be considered Feature Complete.

While no one is screaming for the return of CK2 style regency mechanics, wouldn't it be cool (and make a lot of sense) for child rulers to have Regents?

Well, now they can!

With this mod, child rulers will be receive an event for the Convening of the Regent Council, where you will select your Regent, which is a new Council Position.

If you pick a Regent and then they die for some reason, you will then be able to take a decision to reconvene the Regent Council to select a new Regent.

Features
Regent Council Options
  • Your Mother
  • Your Father
  • Your Most Powerful Knight who Likes You
  • Your Most Powerful Vassal (is considered a Powerful Vassal by the game) who likes you
  • Your Designated Regent (new court position)
  • Your Most Powerful Vassal who doesn't like you, if their max military strength is greater than yours
Designated Regent Court Position
  • New Court Position that allows any non-vassal courtier to be an option for your Regent
Regent Position
  • Functions exactly like your Spouse would. In fact, the Regent Council Position only shows when you are a child and replaces the Spouse position.
  • Then, when you become an adult, the Regent position goes away and your Spouse takes their spot on the Council like normal.
  • Being the Regent provides benefits to the Regent. For balance, I took the primary bonus from each councilor and divided it by a quarter. So, you get a lot of little modifiers while you're regent.
Powerful Regent who Doesn't Like You
  • This is a special option that won't always come up. But if it does, watch out. If you don't give them the Regency, they will try and take your primary title instead.
  • Defeating them will allow you to imprison them, revoke their titles, and even banish/execute them!
Regent War
  • When you become an adult, if you former regent doesn't like you, is stronger than you, and is ambitious, deceitful, or is of a different faith & is zealous, you will receive an event where they declare war for your primary title. If you lose, you become their vassal. If you win, you take them prisoner and they are a criminal allowing you to revoke titles
  • If you are the regent in the above scenario, then you will receive an event allowing you to get a pressed claim on your liege's primary title. You can turn down this offer
Regent Training
    • If your Regent has a trait you can learn or a high ranked skill you can study, you will face a probability challenge to gain the trait or gain points in the skill
    • The challenge outcomes are based on your specific skill level and your Regent's specific skill level in the relevant areas depending on what you want to train
Heir Training
  • If you have an heir, you can also take a decision every two years to train your heir!
    • The challenge works exactly the same as the one for the child ruler, only your heir is gaining the skill points or trait instead of your player character

Yes, AI has regents and you can be your liege's regent

    • If your Regent has a trait you can learn or a high ranked skill you can study, you will face a probability challenge to gain the trait or gain points in the skill
    • The challenge outcomes are based on your specific skill level and your Regent's specific skill level in the relevant areas depending on what you want to train

Compatibility
  • As always, I try my hardest to not overwrite local files. Unfortunately, this mod did require me to overwrite the game\gui\window_council file
  • Very few mods touch that file, but any mod that makes changes to the Council screen (especially overhaul mods) will need compatibility patches
  • I have no problem releasing com-patches, but I'll need you to tell me if you're having a conflict. I don't have the time to pre-emptively test that.

As always, thank you so much for playing my mod and please don't hesitate to leave feedback (discord is preferred, but I'll also respond in the comments below)

Does it support multiplayer?

@SlagNasty - This mod is no longer in development and this wouldn't be possible. A Council member can only be assigned to someone in the Ruler's Court. Since each independent child has their own Court, the parent could only be Regent to the child whose Court they are a part of.

Please make it possible for a parent to be regent for multiple "independent" child rulers if possible!

I'll be looking to see what features make sense with vanilla Regency mechanics.

Whatever I release will be a new mod so folks can still use this mod if they don't update

With regencies out in vanilla, it would be nice to have a standalone mod with only the "Ruler training."

So guessing this is not compatible with Show Me Your Council
Valaddar  [author] Apr 24, 2023 @ 9:30am
No. Both mods make changes to the Council screen.

Would this be compatible with AGOT?
Valaddar  [author] Apr 16, 2023 @ 7:10am
No worries! I'm hoping the CK3 Regency features are awesome!

Ah, I missed that. Sorry for bothering you
