Introduction
Greetings, I'm Phoe, and in this guide my purpose is to compile the different easter eggs of the game, as well as the references to movies that we can find inside of it, and even some detail or curiosity that is less secret but that I find interesting to highlight.

In short, I hope you like my guide and do not hesitate to leave a comment if you wish; with that said, let's do it.
The elevator guard
This little "secret", to call it somehow, is quite well known, but just in case I'll write it down here too. As soon as we enter the asylum, and we have our first encounter with Chris Walker, this will throw us to the reception of the asylum.

Once we finish the cinematic with Father Martin, we will rejoin and we can explore freely, at which point, we must go to the only elevator in the area, and press the button to call the elevator.

To our surprise, what we will see going down will not be the elevator, but we will see a guard fall from the upper floors to certain death. And to think that he wouldn't have died if you hadn't pressed that button....

Reference to the Outlast trailer
Throughout our stay in the asylum, we can often see numerous paintings and photographs decorating the walls of the place; some are of staff members, others reflect photos of the enclosure itself, but the picture to which we dedicate this section has another reason.

Specifically, we refer here to a picture that can be found in the first room of the asylum (among others), in which we enter through the window, and in this we can see a reference to the scenario of the Outlast trailer.

The names of the creators
Another of the officially recognized easter eggs in Outlast are the repeated references to some members of the team when naming the brands of different objects and decorative elements in the game. One of these examples, we can find it in the mark of the computer screens that we find throughout the game: "Helman", and is that Jamie Helman, is precisely the main animator of the game.

However, who we find a greater number of allusions in the game, almost excessively, is the co-founder of Red Barrels Games Philippe Morin, and is that we can find his name, in jars of pills, in the brand of the elevators of the asylum, and even in the subway laboratory chemicals, radiators, markers and other fixtures.

This is NOT a red barrel
The allusions within the game to the creator company, however, do not end with the mention of Morin or Helman, because, for example, we can also find in the blue barrels of the secret laboratory at the end of the game a new reference to the aforementioned company.

If we get close enough to these, although it is not read clearly or with the graphic quality of the game at its best, we can read something like "This is not a red barrel", an allusion to the name of the company (Red Barrels), which in turn alludes to the explosive nature of red barrels in video games.

Red Barrels
Another of the easter eggs that we can find in the game alluding to the name of the game developer is that, if we look carefully at the alarms of the secret laboratory that we find at the end of the game, we can read the Red Barrels brand on them.

The Blair Witch Project
This is an obvious reference for those who know the movie The Blair Witch Project if you know where to find it; the easter egg in question is accessible when we find the laundry room's hopper for the first time.

Once in this part, as we advance a little, we will arrive to a main room where we will find some ascending and descending stairs. To advance in the story we must take the ascending ones, while to see the wink of Red Barrells we will have to take the descending ones.

The latter will lead us to a kind of unlit basement where we will also find one of the documents hidden throughout the game. Immediately in front of the table where the aforementioned file rests, we can observe a variant that stands in a very specific way: his back is turned to us from the corner of the room.

If we get too close to the variant, it will kill us without looking, an undeniable reference to the famous final scene of the film, in which we can see one of the three protagonists with the same particular positioning in front of the corner of an abandoned basement shortly before the protagonist Heather is attacked by something or someone.

I am legend
After escaping from the first of the twins ambushes in the shower area, we will reach an area where we will have to press a button to activate the purge door through which we will have to pass (which, however, will explode when we pass in front of it).

Once we press the button, a sequence will start that will lead to a chase; however, if we look closely at this sequence, it is undeniable to find a resemblance to the final scene of I am legend.

Evil Dead 2
The next reference to a movie can be found briefly after having escaped from the clutches (or should I say scissors?) of Trager; when we go out into the rainy exterior, we will have to enter a shed to acquire the key that will allow us to continue.

If inside the shed, we review the tools that it contains, we will soon glimpse at the top a drawing made with chalk of a chainsaw that seems to be missing, a nod to a scene from the movie Evil Dead 2, in which we can glimpse a drawing of a chainsaw also where Ash's chainsaw should be.

Trager's finger collection
This secret is perhaps not so much, as it concerns one of the optional recordings that we can do throughout the game, and perhaps some already know it, but as it took me a while to find it I share it just in case.

Once freed from Richard Trager, on our way to the outside, we will go through the kitchen where we met him for the first time, immediately after being chased by several furious patients.

Behind one of the doors of this kitchen, which we can assume was one of the deranged official's usual haunts, we can find in a small bowl part of the collection of fingers that Trager would have extirpated from his victims. Will ours be among them?

Trager de Ripper
In this case, it is similar to the curiosity of the fingers; again, we point to an event that triggers a note and thus perhaps is somewhat more familiar, but no less significant for that.

When we definitively leave the sewers and begin to enter the Trager grounds, we begin to witness an increase of mutilated patients on their stretchers, tied to chairs and so on, which already lets us intuit what kind of terrain we are entering.

At one point, we will have to bend down and we will enter a room with a patient tied to a chair; the curiosity we are looking for is in the room next to it, and is that on the wall we can see written in blood, the usual procedure of a Trager torture: First fingers, second balls, third tongue. What a recipe!

Father Martin's foreshadowing
While it is true that Father Martin does not take long to make a constant presence in the plot of Outlast, it is possible that many people who have played the game have not realized that there are already omens of the presence of the man of God long before we are thrown by Walker to the administration of the asylum.

The first of these foreshadowing, we would find it at the beginning of the game and pass the first door, because if we zoom in on one of the windows on the left side of the building, we can see how the lights turn on in a room revealing the shadow of the father, who will disappear shortly after turning off the light again.

The second advance, we can find it behind our first ventilation duct, and is that if we do not hurry to jump, and zoom in front of us, even from the duct we can see the father running past, stop to watch, and continue his run.

Miles Upshur ID
A curiosity that perhaps many people have not noticed, is that at the beginning of the game, in our car, just below the rearview mirror, the protagonist, Miles, wears his journalist credentials. It may seem insignificant, but it seems like a detail that deserves to be taken into account. In this we can know his journalist ID, his signature, and that he is a freelance journalist.

Book Titles
While it is true that the vast majority of books in the game are deliberately blurred so that the title of the same is indiscernible or inappreciable, the truth is that this does not happen with all of them.

Throughout the game we can find up to three different types of books of which we can read in them titles that allude to various topics close to the plot of the game, such as science, faith or psychology.

The three books whose names we can appreciate are The Science of Faith, Skinner and beyond and Behavioral corrections, whose covers are blue, red and green respectively.

Double the camera, double the fun
More than an easter egg itself, well looked at, we could consider this a small glitch or failure on the part of the creators of the game. This curiosity can be witnessed right at the point in the story where after a bad fall we lose our camera and it falls to the lower floors through a crack in the floor.

If we descend and look through the crack through which the camera falls carefully, we can see that our camera has a twin: one is the one we see falling in the animation and we can see how it remains on the floor of the lower room, while the other is the one that is already arranged on the table to give rise to the subsequent chase in the lower levels.

When we go down, and before taking the "new" camera, if we bend down and briefly wander around the place, we will soon find our old camera that will remain unreachable on the floor, as another prop of the game.

Patients are bad hide-and-seek players
This curiosity, again, has more to do with breaking the game from within the game than with something voluntarily shown to the player, but don't let that stop your curiosity. In this case, it is related to certain jumpscares in the game.

There are scares that are scripted to take place just when we pass a corner, such as the arsonist once we cross the already shut down kitchen, or a random patient that scares us when we descend in search of our lost camera.

The thing is, if we position ourselves in the right way, and make use of the wonderful tilt mechanic that the game provides us with, we can surprise in fraganti our scarers waiting for us behind the corner; what a catch, right?

The melancholic patient
This is more than an easter egg, it is a curiosity that you may not have noticed no matter how many times you have played the game. After getting rid of Trager, we will be able to go out to the asylum gardens, where it is raining cats and dogs.

Shortly after leaving, we will have to open a door with a key, but what you probably have not noticed, is that on the door in the gloom of the roof, there is a melancholic patient who has his eyes lost in the rain. Who knows what this poor tormented soul is meditating on.

Also, it should be said that a little later, when we go up to the roof, we will have the opportunity to approach his side, where we will find a battery, but while you're at it, pat him on the back or something, he is clearly not at his best.

The false pursuer
As soon as we leave Father Martin's cell in the prison sector, as we advance to our left we will see a room with an inmate inside who seems to be enjoying himself to the fullest.

The peculiarity of the subject, is that when we advance a little in the plot, just after crossing a ledge, this patient will run out and will reproach us for not having waited for him to finish, and will emulate following the same path as us, as if he were going to chase us.

The thing is that if we turn back and go back down to the prisoner area (why on earth would anyone do that?!), we can see that it is this guy, and is that he will be hiding behind a column without us being able to interact with him in any way. Phew, what a relief, huh?
