VRChat Complete Rank Guide

This will let you know every single rank that existed in VRChat and what you have to do to get them.

Introduction

Welcome to the VRChat Complete Rank Guide! You are probably here for three reasons, 1: You want to know how to get a higher rank in VRChat, 2: You want to know about the VRChat ranks, or 3: You're here because you felt like reading a VRChat Rank Guide.

This guide will help you understand everything about the ranking criteria and you might know about ranks you probably never heard of, and might teach you what you may have to do to earn the rank.

! You might have noticed this guide changed a LOT from when it was posted to now, this is a little more accurate but not the effective way to get trusted user on VRChat or what-not.
If you're trying to rank up: play the game, upload avatars and upload worlds.

[These are only predictions on what you have to achieve to get the rank, this may take more or less time to get the ranks since every player has a different experience. Sorry for not writing this before.]

VRChat Ranks

These are all of the ranks obtainable in game without external resources such as being a direct contributor to VRChat by giving source code or some other method.
This also includes the legacy ranks introduced in the legacy trust rank update, which was around from: September 20, 2018 - September 26th 2018

If you want to know why those ranks were removed: VRChat was recieving negative feedback from the open-bata testers about the trust ranks, theres another reason but thats controversy and just speculation atp.
Both Veteran and Legendary user ranks were removed from the API on May 4, 2022. Some tools can still pull these ranks however

Legendary User

The highest reasonable rank you could get on VRChat, ever. (If you exclude VRChat Team rank, thats just a label for the most part so its whatever)

The rank color is pink and lets you have the ability to: Upload Worlds, Upload Avatars, Hide your rank to Users Visually, Report Worlds, Report Users, and Report Avatars. Also get highest priority for any support ticket they make (if they're active and know them at least)

The only way you could get this rank, is if you contributed to VRChat in some sort of way. Which would be making avatars and worlds for the most part (it also needed to get some traction as well).
Also doesn't matter if you weren't a veteran or trusted user when you get Legendary, you only needed to contribute in some way (visitors and lower ranks do not count).

You cannot get this rank if your account was made AFTER September 26th 2018 (when the trust system update removed the Veteran and Legendary trust ranks).

Veteran User

This is the highest achievable rank you could get with the legacy trust rank update.

The rank color is yellow and lets you have the ability to: Upload Worlds, Upload Avatars, Hide your rank to User Visually, Report Worlds, Report Users, and Report Avatars. They get a higher ticket priority also (if they were active and known by then).

You can obtain this by getting enough "social points" or migrating your Steam/Oculus/Viveport account with the rank "Veteran User" to a VRChat Account

You cannot get this rank if your account was made AFTER September 26th 2018 (when the trust system update removed the Veteran and Legendary trust ranks).

Trusted User

This is the highest achievable rank you can get with the latest ranking system.

The rank color is purple and lets you have the ability to: Upload Worlds, Upload Avatars, Hide your rank to User Visually, Report Worlds, Report Users, and Report Avatars.

You can obtain this by getting enough "social points" or migrating your Steam/Oculus/Viveport account with the rank "Trusted User" to a VRChat Account, this can take longer if you are blocked, vote-kicked, or muted.

This rank can also be obtained by buying VRChat+ as a Known User, however very unlikely to happen.

Known User

When you reach this rank you get a new ability allowing you to hide your rank visually to user, the rank color is orange and lets you have the ability to: Upload Worlds, Upload Avatars, Hide your rank to User Visually, Report Worlds, Report Users, and Report Avatars.

You can obtain this by getting enough "social points" or migrating your Steam/Oculus/Viveport account with the rank "Known User" to a VRChat Account, this can take longer if you are blocked, vote-kicked, or muted.

This rank can also be obtained by buying VRChat+ as a User, but theres a chance it will not happen.

User

This rank is the middle-ground in the ranking system and finally gives you the ability to report worlds and users, the rank color is green and lets you have the ability to: Upload Worlds, Upload Avatars, Report Worlds, Report Avatars, and Report Users.

You can obtain this by getting enough "social points" or migrating your Steam/Oculus/Viveport account with the rank "User" to a VRChat Account, this can take longer if you are blocked, vote-kicked, or muted.

This rank can also be obtained by buying VRChat+ as a New User

New User

Every player that has most-likely played VRChat for more than 12 - 24 hours in-game, And now allows you to upload content, the rank color is blue and lets you have the ability to Upload Avatars!
You used to be able to upload worlds, but they removed that. Feels bad man.

You can obtain this by getting enough "social points" or migrating your Steam/Oculus/Viveport account with the rank "New User" to a VRChat Account, this can take longer if you are blocked, vote-kicked, or muted.

This rank can also be obtained by buying VRChat+ as a Visitor

Visitor

This rank is the starting rank, the rank that you are automatically given at the beginning of the game, the rank color is white and has no ability's

This rank is automatically given to you once you create and verify your VRChat Account or given automatically by joining the game on Steam/Oculus/Viveport.

Nuisance

Most people that are very toxic or bad in the VRChat community that are visitors will get De-Ranked to this rank, the rank color is white and they have their Mic and Avatars Automatically off

The way to obtain this rank is to be a complete Nuisance to the community, you can rank back up but it'll take a while.

Perm Nuisance

If you've been banned or a VERY naughty VRChat player, you'll get this. It usually comes with an email registered on your VRChat account describing why you've been put on nuisance rank.

You either have to appeal or create an entirely new account, you cannot rank up out of this.

Special Ranks

This section is all about the special ranks, the ones that are unobtainable or were removed from the game entirely.

VRChat Team

This rank is obtained by being an employee of VRChat, this rank can be revoked if you are no longer working for VRChat, the rank color is red and has the ability to: Upload Content, Manage others Content, Ban Users, Kick Users, Report Content, Rank/De-Rank Users, Etc.

This rank is still obtainable in the current version of VRChat, but I don't know why you would.

Community Ambassador

This rank is obtained by being specially ranked by a VRChat Staff Member, the color is unknown and has the ability to: Upload Content, Report Content, Report Users, Call Admins, have Vote-Kick priority, and other features that are unknown.

This is a unknown rank, meaning that there is no extra info about this rank, the only information about it is that it was added and removed in a day (negative feedback and ego once again).

This rank no longer exists and can no longer be obtained in the latest version of VRChat.

Admin (Old)

This rank is obtained by being an employee of VRChat, this rank can be revoked if you are no longer working for VRChat, the rank color is unknown and has the ability to: Upload Content, Manage others Content, Ban Users, Kick Users, and Report Content.

Just a silent title, it was replaced. You know the deal.

This rank no longer exists and can no longer be obtained in the latest version of VRChat.

sadly steam stopped counting at 3.5k cause I rememeber playing vrchat on a old crappy laptop in 2016. I heard there was a rank for the OGs of VRChat but I'm yet to see anything.

The trust system confuses me nowadays, since it doesn't seem to actually work how it's supposed to.

A few years ago, I was "User", then I took a break for a while and came back to find I was suddenly dropped down to "New User", then during the recent Furality (June 6th - 9th, 2024) I got myself over the 25 friend limit (currently at 27), and currently have 81.3 hours in VRChat, yet I'm still "New User" and not back to "User" like before.

I wonder if it has to do with me playing almost exclusively in private instances with friends now, instead of going to public instances with randos like I use to.

<frostycat :D> this could be that you don't meet some hidden requirements, try joining random worlds and spending at least around 5 minutes inside of them.

You could also try on random avatars, AFK for hours, or friend more people to get new user.
