Description
D.I.Y Greek Network Pack / NEW BUILDING METHOD!

IMPORTANT!!! PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION AND VIEW WORKSHOP IMAGES TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO USE AS INTENDED!

Assets created for Dirty H for his Europe in Detail Series' Santorini inspired, Greek town - check out his YouTube Playlist to watch his incredible work! Screenshots by Sully and Dirty H.

The D.I.Y Greek Network Pack is part of a series of assets in the D.I.Y Greek Collection, which when combined together are extremely powerful and can allow you to create hundreds if not thousands of custom and unique greek houses, buildings, structures, arches, walls and walkways. Using networks you can connect rows of houses and streets together, even an entire town connected seamlessly.

Straight out the box, the networks which look like houses do not constitute a finished asset, just the bare bones of a house wall, which should be combined with other walls, doors, windows, rooftops, props and decals to create a finished house asset. In short, create 4 walls 1 unit in length using the thin networks, add doors, windows and a roof and finally finish with detailing. Assets to be used alongside are part of the D.I.Y Greek Collection linked below.

Using these assets as intended is a little experimental and likely only playable by intermediate or advanced players who are comfortable with mods and detailers who are happy to spend time creating custom assets from new using my collection. Mods are required to use as intended (listed below).

I have created ready-to-go houses, as shown in the images above which you're welcome to use. Download MoveIt exports from AllBuilds.org which you can import into your save.

So why are the assets created this way?

Creating a single unique Greek house traditionally in 3D software could take many hours or even days. Creating a unique Greek house in-game with these assets can take minutes or at most an hour if heavy detailing.

I essentially see this approach as moving building creation from Blender and the asset editor to in-game where we can create unique houses far quicker and with endless variety. With the unique combinations available and with a bit of creativity you could in theory, create an entire city or town using just this collection for residential and commercial buildings.

How to create houses or buildings? (Guide in images above)

1. Download the entire D.I.Y Greek Collection (or at minimum the ‘Doors and Windows Buildings Pack and D.I.Y Greek Prop Pack) to use alongside this network pack.

2. In-game, create your house or building walls with the networks in the D.I.Y Greek Network Pack. The thin networks provide the most unique variations and the wide networks are for quick usage.

The networks for the houses (both thick and thin networks) are designed to be 1 unit long. If you create these particular networks 2 units long for example, then the door and window frames will look stretched and the doors and windows assets won’t fit those frames. It helps to brace the node 1 unit in length with a perpendicular node if continuing along a longer straight line.

3. The thin networks will also mean you need to add a roof to the networks, there is a 8x8m (1 unit) base piece which can be used on the roofs, or alternatively you can use the surface networks which will allow decals to appear on top.

4. Once you have the base walls and roof of your house or building created, you can add the doors and windows to the spaces provided in the wall networks.

5. Add props such as the 'shutters' prop in the 'doors and windows buildings pack. Add decals such as the mediterranean tiles and damaged walls decals pack.

Additional Info

One of the strength's of the collection is to connect rows of houses or streets of buildings together, not just having unique homes 'sitting' next to each other but to have large parts of the town all connected by one seamless network.

The wide and thin networks aren't meant to connect, they're like two alternate ways to create buildings/structures.

Recommended Mods

1. Move It – Required! Needed to move nodes of networks to be 1 unit apart, and to move doors/windows into position and to raise modular roof 8x8 piece into position.

2. Node controller – Networks can be increased in thickness using this mod, so one end of network could be thicker than the other. This is also useful when sloping the networks to ensure nodes along the slope have the 'sloped' and not 'flat' option ticked, which will smooth it out.

3. Network Anarchy – Allows you create network segments close to each other.

4. Network Multitool – Allows you to add or delete nodes. This is useful to add nodes along the path, to create 1 unit long segments when needed.

5. Loading mod screen – To share one texture file across all networks.

FAQ

Q: Why are house walls taller when raised above ground?
A: The networks are 4m and 8m from the ground, but there's an extra 1m below ground, so if raise the networks they're actually 5m and 9m high. If raising the networks and want to fit doors to the frame on house networks, then remember to keep 1m below the floor height.

Q: Texture issue?
A: The textures can look a bit too textured at some lighting, editing the longtitude & latitude will get a better lighting for the white textures.
