Damn Spies... A survival guide against them for you and your teammates
By Cusuno and 1 collaborators
Annoyed by Spies? Backstabbed too much? Perhaps this guide will help! (Warning: My English is not that good :c)
(Warning: This guide only prevents most of their tactis, but makes you not immune to spies :c)
Remember: Professional spies have their own ways and don't want to publish them. Never feel 100% secure.
Note: This is my first guide.

You can give me more tips you know in the comments! I'll add them to the list.
Feedback would be nice too! C:

(Thanks to Dr.Gizmo for fixing the English in this Guide.)

The Spy
As you all know, the main targets of the Spy will be the Intelligence, Control Points, the precious backs of his enemies and the toy-looking buildings of the Engineer.

The main objective of the Spy is to infiltrate the enemy base.

Now we come to the tips on how to defeat them/avoid getting killed by them:
Spies will usually go after you if you are distracted or alone.

If you are alone or distracted, don't forget to look behind you. Perhaps a random Spy will appear, and you will have the opportunity to kill him (Unless he had a Dead Ringer or you are already dead).

(Note: You will be dead anyway if you are in front of enemies. You have the choice.)
Chasing Spies is usually not a smart choice.
Sometimes a Spy wants you to chase him.
If you do that, the Spy can possibly get the oppurtunity to kill you or you end up in a sentry nest/pile of enemies.

Do NOT chase Spies on stairs. You can be easily killed with a "stairstab".
You can fool the Spy by making him think you would get up the stairs.
Get up the stairs a bit and immediately go down. Perhaps the Spy will be fooled and try to stairstab you.
If the Spy failed at his stairstab attempt, then it's a good time to fight back. (Unless he wants you to chase him to the stairs again and kill you, while you were distracted with killing him.)
NEVER try to melee fight a Spy
Never try to kill a Spy with a melee weapon if he's well experienced and knows the basics of trickstabbing.
Like I've said - while you're trying to kill the Spy with a melee weapon, you may get killed by a
backstab.

If you are caught with a Spy, and he is currently holding his knife, hold still, keep a personal space and back away from him if he gets too close, wait until he takes out his primary to try to shoot you, then charge at him, don't forget to zigzag to confuse his aim.
Control Points: Take a look at your last Control Point
In Attack/Defend, sometimes, after your first point is captured, a Spy immediately begins to capture the last Control Point, while your entire team is dead/at the front. This is called a Spy Cap.
This can end the game really quickly.
If you have the feeling that your first Control Point is being lost, go to your base IMMEDIATELY. Perhaps you might find a Spy who is waiting to capture the last Control Point.
Watch out for Ambassador Spies
Ambassadors Spies are really dangerous.
They can deal tons of damage at a distance.
If an Ambassador Spy is trying to headshot you, be always in motion and take cover.

Perhaps the Ambassador Spy lost interest to you if you are in a crowd full of your teammates.
As Engineer: Stay away from teleporter exits!
What's wrong? A Spy is sapping your teleporter? Quick! Destroy the sapper... BUT WAIT!
DON'T stand on your Teleporter, while you try to destroy the Sapper.

The reason? Most Spies are going to sapp your teleporter and stand right on the entrance.

Why are they doing this? They want you to have attention to your teleporter and that you STAND on it, so they can kill you with a telefrag, after you unsapped your teleporter.
After you're dead, the Spy gets his opportunity to sapp your entire nest.

You don't want this to happen, right?

Stay next to your teleporter. If someone immediately teleports after you unsapped your teleporter, spycheck, most of the time it is the Spy.
Bump to your teammates
In Team Fortress 2, it's not possible to collide with your teammates. Instead, you go through them.
But if you collide with a "teammate", then it's obviously a Spy.

(Warning: You may die if you try to bump a Spy, who is disguised as your teammate, if he looks at you.)
As Sniper: The Razorback is NEVER a good idea
The Razorback is possibly the worst Sniper secondary in existance. (Except in cp_Degrootkeep or any map with Medieval mode on.)

Every Spy, who has at least a little bit of experience knows how to kill a Razorback Sniper, without trying to backstab him.
They'll kill you with their revolver before you even know it.
It may protect you from 1 backstab attempt, but that's all.
This shield also takes your secondary weapon away, so DON'T use this.

You will be laughed at.
In very rare cases: Trade Request Trolling
There are players out there who troll people with trading.
While the victim is distracted with trading, the player gets the opportunity to backstab him.

If this happens to you, accept the request only if you are either:
A: Not an Engineer.
B: In the Spawnroom where it is safe.
C: On their team.
D: All of the above.

...

Or just go to a Trade Server if you wanna trade. (Which really, that's what you should've done in the first place.)
Bonus Tip: Help your Engineers!
So, you wanna take this teleporter, but it's sapped?
Change your class to the Pyro with the Homewrecker or become an Engineer and destroy this nasty thing!
The teleporter works again, and you and your teammates can use it again, instead of looking at it being slowly destroyed.

Destroy every sapper with your Homewrecker! (Also useful against enemy minisentries)
The Engineers will also appreciate you for that.

(Note: You have to be fast or it will be too late)

Dealing with master Spies is always a pain in the ass...
It's usually either a very cautious Pyro that spychecks literally everything everywhere or a knife in the back.
Bad Spies are good for getting free Uber with Ubersaw, though.
Also, the cheap piece of @#$% which is the Dead Ringer allows them to fake their death and makes them twice, if not thrice as annoying as usual to deal with. Pro Spies use it to make perfect deaths, while noob Spies use it purely for damage resistance...
