GE Evolution Hybrid

Kuvaus
(Original model by AB Studios).

I'd previously done this livery in May 2021, albeit with the default AC4400CW model. This one updates the re-skin to use a proper GEVO model.

GECX 2010 was originally built in 2004 as a regular ES44AC demonstrator unit, and wasn't rebuilt as a diesel/battery hybrid until 2007.

She has a conventional GEVO V12 prime mover (with 4,400 horsepower) as well as a series of batteries which capture the dissipated energy from dynamic braking. The energy is later reused, thus reducing fuel consumption up to 15% and emissions up to 50% compared to conventional diesels.

On May 24th, 2007, GECX 2010 was unveiled in Los Angeles. Since then she has spent most of her time back at GE’s test track in Erie, Pennsylvania. Due to the slow pace of battery development, diesel fuel being too cheap for most railroads to justify the extra cost of hybrids and the conventional GEVO locomotives selling very well, the hybrid project has never advanced beyond this one-off prototype.

Good job though.
