FDNY Squad 1 | 9/11 Tribute

FDNY Squad 1 is one of 8 special operations squads in the New York Fire Department, servicing the Brooklyn area of New York City.

Squad was originally organised in Harlem at Engine 59 in 1955. The company moved to Ladder Company 58 in 1972, before being moved again to Engine Company 45, in 1975, before being disbanded in 1976. Squad 1 was reorganised in 1977 at 788 Union Street, in Brooklyn.

In the September 11th attacks, Squad 1 responded across the Brooklyn Bridge to the South Tower. 12 members of the company were killed when the towers collapsed, the most of any firehouse in the city. We shall never forget them, those who gave their lives to save those who called.
