Nvidia PhysX Fix

Sick and tired of russian guides telling you to copy non existent DLL-Files around?
Or using 7zip to extract file from weird archives?

Here is the fix the way it should be done.

Error

If you are installing Metro 2033 on a new system you will most likely run into this error when starting the game the first time:

The program can't start because PhysXLoader.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

The reason for this is, that you do not have the old drivers of Nvidia PhysX installed because they are not part of the current driver package.

Install Legacy PhysX Software

Since the installer in the metro2033 install folder is broken you need to manually download the legacy version of Nvidia PhysX.

You can either download it from Nvidia's website:
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/physx/physx-9-13-0604-legacy-driver/
Doubleclick the .exe and install the driver.

Or you do it like a pro and use the Windows Package Manager winget.
Open the Terminal / PowerShell and enter:

winget install Nvidia.PhysXLegacy

Fixed

That's it. Have fun playing the game.

i figured it out, once you install the fix try restarting your system. If that doesn't work, try this [www.nvidia.com] install instead, then try restarting again.

It didn't fix it sadly. Going to reinstall again and hopefully that fixes it

I got the same error message, but I think the "first time setup" that steam is doing is overwriting the legacy drivers I installed from Nvidia. It installs just fine but opening the game again just gives me the same error. I'm running Windows 10. I'm going to try to set the compatability to windows 7 and see if that fixes it.

i followed the guide but it keeps having the same issue, is there a chance my steam is overwriting the legacy installation or do I manually have to put it in the files?

Yes, I am using Windows 11. Do you get the error message above?
If it crashes after launch it is most likely another problem.

does it works on windows 11 ? installing driver fixing popup error, but the game crashes immediately after launch.

This guide is appreciated. I had it installed before I got the game for free, but I hope people see that this is the real solution.
